Thanks for the pictures. It looks better, but it's still not close to how good it was in 1.7b with all the lakes and random beaches. You used to look at a map in a cartographer like Tectonicus and see unique land everywhere, but now, you see a bunch of biome patches where land areas of the same biome look very similar.
A more proper title would be "Greek biome". The Mediterranean coast includes the southern Spanish coast all the way to the Syrian/Palestinian coast, North Africa too. Very different landscapes.
Seeing that the OP refuses to even acknowledge the veracity of all the critique in this topic, at least I can be assured that this biome won't be added to Minecraft any time soon, since the 1.7 pre-release is out.
I would like to see ever more new biomes added before 1.7 is released, but I really don't like those concept images. The hills are much to smooth to look like Minecraft hills (I wouldn't mind having some smoother hills in the terrain, but it would have to be consistent, not just in this one biome). And the messiness of the materials used in the terrain is awful. Rocks and sand and grass just senselessly clash together. Blegh.
The ruins are ok, but I'd rather have them rarer. I don't think "prominent enough that if you stumbled upon this biome, you would be sure to find one or two" is a good idea because it makes them redundant, and takes away from the biome itself. (I want new biomes added for the landscape, not the generated structures) What civilization decided to dot quartz structures all over specifically these biomes, and then simultaneously abandon them anyways? (although the other generated structures are often abandoned, they aren't common enough to feel odd, like I think this would) Also, with the biome having that small amount of trees, the ruins would be really obvious, and I consider that a bad thing if there would be so many of them.
I have nothing against new trees though.
What? He never said that pre-existing structures would declassify the place as a "biome", he just said they were unnecessary.
I have to agree, I like this biome, but I have a few questions.
1) In the ruins, would one find a treasure chest like the do in the jungle temples and desert temples?
2) You're pictures look very hilly, would emeralds spawn in this biome as a result?
3) Would this be a common biome? Or a rare one?
To answer your question, no there would not be chests, yes emeralds would spawn, and this would be slightly less rare than the Mesa biomes in 1.7
The issue that I have with this idea is that it includes evidence of human cultural presence, something that is unrelated to the concept 'biome'. Take these quartz ruins away and you still have a nice idea. If you want to give it a roman or greek twist, you can still add them yourself.
So with that reasoning, jungle biomes aren't really biomes because they have temples in them. I suppose the redwood biome also isn't a biome because they have cobblestone ruins, and that deserts aren't really biomes because they have pyramids and desert villages along with plains biomes that also have villages. Your reasoning is flawed sir.
With the release of 1.7, we are going to be getting quite a few new biomes. One biome that they left out that I thought would have been cool to have was a Mediterranean styled biome: rocky beaches, sparse vegetation, high cliffs, bordering an ocean, etc. I thought it strange that they left a biome like this out of the new list seeing how most of western civilization obtained their values from the peoples of the Mediterranean region (*cough *cough Greeks and Romans).
This new biome would add two new things to Minecraft that would be specific only to this biome, the first being cyprus trees. The whole Mediterranean is dotted with them. They really add to the scenery of it all. The second feature would be quartz ruins. Quartz ruins would be found scattered along this biome, not too common, but prominent enough that if you stumbled upon this biome, you would be sure to find one or two. It would basically be the equivalent to the ruins found in the new redwood biome in 1.7. Not only would they serve as excellent aesthetics for the biome, but would also give another way to obtain quartz.
Okay, so 3 days ago I got a new alienware laptop, runs everything flawlessly. I downloaded minecraft onto my new computer and it ran beautifully at a constant ~100 fps at far render distance. I noticed at about 3-5 minute in, it be can to start freezing to the point where it was unplayable. Restarting it seemed to be the only solution. After I restarted it, it did the same thing. Thinking this was a memory problem, I downloaded the magic launcher for minecraft to allocate more memory. I allocated 1250Mb, more than enough for minecraft. Same problem. I am getting this problem not only on single player but multiplayer as well. Not sure what's wrong. I tried out 1.6.1 and I was getting the same problem. I am thinking optifine might help. If you have any ideas about what might be wrong, please help! thank you

Below are some pictures of the biome...
