posted a message on 1.8 TUTORIAL - Alternate textures and custom models

I was able to do alternate blocks for bookshelves but I've had no success with vines or carved sandblocks.

Here's what I have for sandblocks

The current generator can make some amazing terrain

Can you show any examples? Honestly, I've quit exploring due to the uninteresting terrain I find.

posted a message on Basic dispenser help
Thanks for the help - I'm trying to make the dispensers fire only once when their button is pressed. The problem i have with powering blocks touching the dispensers is if they are packed close together I can't keep the redstone seperate. I tried redstone torches which kept the input seperate except then they make the dispensers output twice for every button push.
I think I'll try making it basic with the buttons connected to a block under the dispenser. Using wiring in a small space is just trouble.

I'm trying to make a simple and compact wall of dispensers that are side by side and connected to a button with redstone wire and or torches. It works fine except the button to one dispenser will trigger the dispenser next to it since redstone can be adjacent to the dispenser and still trigger it.

Is there any way to get around this or will I just have to have to keep my dispensers a block apart?

One of your best bets is to simply make several worlds and examine say what each type of generation setting does to the gargamel seed. its a godo way to learn.

most of all beta did was change the way clay generated. alpha is the one that made the really stunning beautiful worlds.

    Thanks.
I've got an old world I stopped using because the regular terrain wasn't great anymore but I'd really like to continue with it. With this mod just installed in minecraft will the new chunks generated be the terrain from this mod? Or would I have to create a new world and MCedit my old map into it?

I have some basic questions about this mod and I've read a bit and checked the FAQ but I'm either missing it or too dense.

If I want world generation like before the big change around 1.8 should I use Beta or the default?

I've seen mention that this mod works for older worlds but I don't understand how this works if the world type options are only there when you create a new world.

And is there any kind of list of what gameplay doesn't work with default, alpha and beta? I was reading that villages are different and some things don't work with some of the world types. Just trying to find the best merge of old world generation and newest gameplay.

I'm also tired of the basic if you don't like it play something else refrain. I do like it still, that's why I'm still playing. But I'm playing it less because the excitement of exploring has been hugely decreased with this bland, average terrain. And realism comments can be argued any which way - either that the game isn't that realistic anyway or that the real world has far more interesting terrain than this game does.

Good letter. I'm wondering if for the intro you just need to present your proposal in a businesslike fashion. ie, many players are concerned that the terrain generation in the game isn't as good as it could be ...we would like to point the areas that seem to be a step backward in our opinion from other terrain generation versions..

When it says, "to talk about possible solutions to improve the terrain generation" Does mojang think there is a problem with terrain? Do you need to point out the deficiencies of the current terrain system before you offer solutions?

The spam remark seems kind of defensive. And combined with we feel that the Minecraft team is truly unreachable for us using other ways... makes the paragraph seems to scream hey listen to us. Just my opinion, I don't really know the background of all this or the people.

The focus of this image is rivers and giant mushrooms. While I wish the current terrain was more like that in the image, we can only assume that implementing this wouldn't have been practical- otherwise, they would have. Perhaps the terrain as a whole was too 'extreme'; the whole world was like what you see in this image, which wouldn't have been fun.

Sure the whole world being any one terrain type wouldn't be fun at all. But I would love to have terrain like that in places.

But, in short, the most important things to restore are height variation, cave size variation, and the temperature system. After that comes underwater bedding and beaches.

Totally agree. I would also like having the possibility of having one amazing natural structure every 1000 squares or whatever. A grand canyon or amazing rock cliff structure. I really think there's more possibilities to explore with the world and it's being neglected.

Wassupbro's post is reminding me how much i hate huge flat treeless areas. It's boring and I don't want to build too far from trees.

If anyone is really into mountains I should upload my first world. All mountainous terrain and I started another world before I did hardly building or mining. It also got updated so in one region there's nothing but blocks of land rising out of the water. Totally unrealistic but I thought it was interesting.

Worse than drunk, brain-dead monkeys? That's not polite. I think people should try to read the message and ignore some of the improperly worded, rude or over the top comments if possible. I can find people on both sides that are stubbornly rude - doesn't mean what they say should then be disregarded.

And I honestly don't get people's opinion not being enough. It seems if you love something it's great - you're in the club no questions asked. If you dislike it - then it's why do you dislike it. And who do you think you are. And then you have to come up with something better like you're a pro game designer. And if you do then it's well make your own game.

A guy took 2 videos of current terrain and old terrain and took a poll on which was which, and people got it wrong

I can't imagine that this was a good example showing all the variation you could get with old terrain. Floating land, clouds cutting through mountains, etc

posted a message on Would you like climates to be a bit more sorted?
Nobody else would go for it but I might be interested in an option to have a more realistic layout - the snow biomes at the top and bottom of the world and jungles in the middle etc. This would limit the size so you'd have to pick the size of the world you wanted to start with and in what region you would spawn. Would need more biomes to keep the terrain varied and interesting.

I like the idea of having to travel and explore to find the biomes and having them in places that give you an idea of where you are in the world.

I don't get the mindset. Who looks at the earlier terrain with giant floating islands spewing lava or other crazy landscapes and says oh that sucks - needs a lot more flat. I can see for builders but it sure has killed my exploring. I've got a world I had from 1.3 with a huge rail terminal I just put in that I've stopped work on because there's no terrain that will be worth the travel.
