posted a message on How would one go about clearing underground lava?
all of the ideas on this thread suck except for the one above me.

now, with that out of the way here a few thing would could do!

depending on what type of mining your doing, if you find a large portion of lava you could make an obistian farm out of it.

or if you dont wana do that then the best thing to do is go up to layer 11 as lava pools start at lvl 10, and drop sand or gravel down into the lava to eliminate the source blocks. and if your doing a branch mine you wouldn't have to dig all of that gravel back out, just what is in the way of your tunnel.

if your doing multiple branch mines stacked on top of another the best way to deal with lava(and the way i personally do i in my mines) is to start at the higher branches so that once you get to the lava layer (layer 10) you can just drop the gravel down into the flat pool rather than trying to go under the lava and risk it falling down on your head. the only downside to this is that when you go to your lowest branch all the gravel in your path will fall down. personally i like to do my branches spaced 3 apart and 10 "doors" long. and after clearing out a entire section (10 doors spaced 3 apart) i like to use cartograph to see if i missed anything. and the empty holes in the walls make the mines look funny on the map. but the solution i use to this is just replacing the gravel with dirt because unlike gravel and sand, gravity has no effect on it. and cobble is to awesome to waste! ....i build stuff with my cobble lol so i always need all i can get!

btw if your not sure what lvl you on simply press f3 and look at the number in the middle, you'll see your coordinates from your spawn and what lvl depth/hight your at.

Minerals are randomly spawned based on height (you won't find diamond or red-stone above height 20, sea level is height 64). Only later is the dirt added in during an erosion process (which adds dirt, gravel and caves). Thus, clearing dirt or gravel is simply faster than clearing rock.

Run a search for "Elite's of Minecraft" and you will find a thread with all the mining information you could ever want.

you wont find diamonds or readstone ABOVE lv 19, meaning you will NOT find diamonds at lvls 20-128.

just thought i should state that so that some people dont get confused.

I am having trouble installng mods, i want to get a dungeon spawning mod but when i install it it says that i need to open it with window, then i tried to open it with java downloader but that doesnt work either i really want to make dungeon spawners that can spawn stuff like :SSSS: :Skeleton: :Spider: :Zombie: and slimes and ghasts and giants, someone help

even tho this looks like a troll thread ill be nice and say that 1) their called mob spawners, not mod spawners. and 2) mob spawners are found randomly in caves and can be identified by the mossy cobblestone floors. and 3) you can only find zombie, spider, and skeleton spawners naturally. although i think with the mcedit program you can get creeper and a ton of other spawners.

posted a message on problem with minecraft HELP ? :)
annnnnd if those files aren't in any of the recycle bins on the computers you were transferring files to, since this is no fault of your own, i would recommend invedit and mc edit. their both hack programs but even if your against hacking look at it this way.... you didn't mean for this to happen....so using these to correct the mistakes wouldn't be wrong since your **** ****ed up!

invedit will get you all your ore back as it is a program that lets you get and amount of any block ingame! thus replacing all that lost iron and coal and whatever else you may have lost due to this mishap.

mcedit is a program where you can go in and edit the lands and whatever buildings you have built. that will help you clear out that mountain that reappeared.

if you wana do this just google "invedit" and "mcedit" both of the links are here on the forums somewhere tho.

also i would recommend that you watch some tutorials on YouTube about mc edit because if you dont know what your doing you could mess something up worse than it is now (like turnning everything to bedrock in that mountain lol)

also remember if you get it fixed/start a new world/ or whatevver BACKUP YOUR SAVES!

perhaps you can just check your recycle bin for the missing files? if they were somehow deleeted then they may be there. just restore them if they are and you should be good to go! i personally backup my minecraft worlds everyday when i start to go to bed or at anytime i Finnish something that iv been working on ect...

the easiest way to backup you mc saved are to go to your saves folder and copy paste them onto your desktop. or you can take them and put them on a USB drive if you have one

oh yes and one more thing. when i said i didn't want to buy a new computer i meant not soon, i know ill eventually need one due to xp becoming obsolete like ME and 98, but since the only thing in trying to get my computer to do right now is get more fps in mineraft id rather spend a few bucks for ram and such since i dont play any other games apart from minecraft and runescape (lol....runescape...)

There are a lot of things that contribute to computers becoming obsolete or barely usable. The biggest one is software. Updated virus checking software is some of the worst. You seem pretty versed in computers so try this:

    1) Unplug the ethernet cable so you cannot get on the Internet, or disable the NIC temporarily. Re-enable it just to make sure you can connect again, then disable it again.
    2) Restart the computer as normal. Go do something else for 5 minutes. Come back.
    3) Bring up the process viewer, tskmngr or something like that, and start shutting down non windows processes.
    4) If you are unsure of what you can shutdown, type the name into Google and find out (obviously this research has to be done before you disconnect). Likely programs to shutdown are: software firewalls, virus checkers, printer drivers, extra mouse software, and multimedia managers (Real, Quicktime, even Microsoft media).
    5) Windows XP with disabled networking only requires about 12-15 processes running at a bare minimum.
    6) Launch minecraft and see what your FPS is.
    7) If the FPS is significantly improved, then you have some work to do figuring out what software is stealing the resources so minecraft isn't running well. Go through the very labor intensive process of restarting the computer and leaving processes enabled that you disabled before. Eventually you'll narrow it down. Then you can make an honest assessment of if that program is worth it when you run minecraft. If it is a virus checker that is the culprit, I'd recommend a different one that is not as resource intensive.
    8) If minecraft is still running slow, time for a new computer. :smile.gif:

o wow only 15 or so are required? dang *looks at his task manager* yea i have 65 running, will have to try that.

What speed is your processor? What's the type/speed of your ram?

Need some specs before we can really help much.

If your computer is over 4-5 years old (Or older D:), it might start struggling.

You have to remember that computers depreciate very quickly :tongue.gif:

and to those wanting more specs

posted a message on more ram?
Hey i was wondering if adding more ram to my comp would help me get more fps in minecraft. I know that buying a new graphics card would be best but those can get kinda expensive. Now my comp only has .99 GB of ram, and my graphics card is integrated. Would it be better to add a new GB or two of ram or just invest in a graphics card?
i was thinking of new ram because that would help my computer overall as sometimes it can be very slow. so if anyone could help i would greatly appreciate it!

    BTW, my OS is XP

Also note that i regularly defrag my comp and have followed all the steps on the guide to getting more fps here on the forums using game booster, i cant tell a difference at all

    my fps:
    far: about 5-6
    normal:9-10
    short:30-32
    tiny:50-80- spiking at around 150

i want to be able to play on far or normal view distance but the terrible lag and fps make it almost impossible
