As said, 1.8 just came out, so It should be sometime, but if they start working on it now for a long time, we should get it in the next few months.
1.8 came out 2 months ago i think its time to stop saying "1.8 just came out" and dinnerbone has already said they started work on 1.9 and sense it's only a couple weeks till we get 1.8.1 i think the first 1.9 snapshot should be out in late November or early December
