And in some cases decimals actually do worth that way, eg $1.10

    Jesus... are you serious?

No, decimals do not ever work that way. 1.10 = 1.1 just as 1.9 = 1.90 = 1.90000000000 . Those zeroes don't matter (unless you're dealing with significant digits).

Therefore $1.10 = $1.1 . If you see the number 1.10, you don't read it as "one point ten" because it is really just "one point one."

posted a message on Do you remember....
I'm lucky; my forum join date proves how early on I started playing Minecraft. I started playing in July 2009. That was before any version of survival existed; before Alpha. Before Infdev and Indev. Before even the "Survival Mode Test" that Notch made I think around the end of 2009 (which was really fun, btw). The only version was what we call "Minecraft Classic" today.

I can definitely understand what you mean about redstone. Back before redstone, some people actually managed to use the mechanics of water, sand, and lava to make really cool screens. I think there was even a calculator or two made out of these things back then. Now people can make things like scrolling ASCII displays, programmable piston displays etc.

Minecraft is really cool today, but back in the good ol' days, the game was much less buggy and laggy of course, the community was better, and I dare say Notch enjoyed working on the game more.

Edit: Oh, I also remember back then, when the number of copies of Minecraft sold reached 10,000 and it was a BIG deal :laugh.gif:

This is a crappy poll. There were versions of Minecraft before Alpha you know... I joined Minecraft about a week before I joined these forums.

posted a message on What version was Minecraft when it cost $5.00?
Right. To me, content and DLC are the same thing. When you say "updates" I assume you mean bug fixes. If so, yes, I believe those will be free for anyone who pays for the game.

No, it did not ever cost $5.00, I assure you. Before and during alpha, the game cost about €10.00 (ten Euros) which is about $14.00. Right now, during Beta, it costs about €15.00, which is about $20.00. At no point in time did Minecraft cost $5.00.

Source: myself. I started playing Minecraft long before Indev.

EDIT: oh, UltimateTobi, you're mistaken. You only get future content for free if you bought the game during or before Alpha.

    Quote from Killkode_707

Idk but really. Why did notch even put that up? I think it should be equal to all users. I dont think "Just bug fixes" are gonna be free for beta buyers. I dont have an account using my friends account but when i get one lets just hope notch fixes it. I believe notch taught that no one reads that crap so he put it up like that. So yea never some things espically games seriously. Lets hope beta buyers are also going to get free dlcs. I cannot belive that fact. Notch hasnt confirmed it yet so dont get your hopes down.

That's just a ridiculous thing to say. No game developer would type a bunch of ******** in their legal Terms of Use just because they think "that no one reads that crap." That's just asking for legal trouble. I started playing Minecraft a couple of months after Notch first started making it, and I assure you the policy has been favoring pre-Alpha and Alpha buyers from the beginning.

Though I'm confident that if the rest of the Adventure Update features don't make it in before the release, Mojang will probably let everyone have those features. They were already willing to release those features for free in the first place, and Notch is a pretty nice guy, so I highly doubt Mojang would decide to be such dicks and withhold that content. The negative publicity alone would negate any financial benefit of charging for that content.

posted a message on Simpler Mods?
Have no fear. I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that Mojang plans to add mod support to Minecraft in the future or something. Although I was tired at the time. And I had been picking at my eyes because one of them was infected. And I had been swimming in a pool with too much chlorine. And that was the hour my glasses were at Lens Crafters. But I read it!...probably.

    A skyscr- oops, nevermind.

I agree with purpleslideman about building an arena. Build an arena, hire some gladiators to gladiate with each other, and watch the tourists flock to your city.

Also build a rural farming area, with some nice windmills 'nd stuff and farms with irrigation and everything.

Don't forget decorative things like statues (if any of your citizens are artistic enough), and maybe also a museum with lots of huge paintings.

Any decent city needs a military too, because if your city is any good, people are surely going to want to plunder it, right? Build a barracks, an archery range, and some stables. And another forge.

    Notch could care less.

Wait, he could care less? As in, he does care about this alleged Minecraft clone, so it is possible for him to not care as much, because he does currently care to a certain extent? I was under the impression that Notch didn't care about "Minecraft clones," and so it would be impossible for him to care less because he didn't care at all in the first place.

posted a message on When did you buy Minecraft?
I bought it pre-alpha. Before infdev in fact. Oh no, wait, back even farther... before indev. As a matter of fact, I bought it before there was any survival mode at all, just creative mode (or "Minecraft Classic" as you youngsters know it). Let's see, it must have been... late July 2009? Yep, shortly after version 0.0.23a.

So, tell me: Anyone feel like a veteran now? :iapprove:

posted a message on Does anyone know the software for minecraft?
    Quote from Gakey

i wanted to know what codes and other stuff he used

I'm beginning to think that you don't know squat about how software is made.

    ---
I realize my comment is not helpful. Let me be less mean and useless:

Notch writes his own lines of code using Java, which is a programming language. He didn't use pre-made software to create Minecraft. Minecraft itself is software; it is software that he programmed himself. So the correct question would have been "What programming language did Notch use to create Minecraft?"

It takes a lot of time and effort to learn how to program in any programming language. I admire your desire to create your own game, but I think you have a very long way to go.

posted a message on Future Engine?
I don't think Java is the problem. I've seen programmers post many times that Minecraft is an example of "spaghetti code." In other words, Notch's programming is significantly below optimum.

And what's with the OpenOffice hate? I've never had any issues with it. I'd definitely rather use it than fork out a ridiculous $110 or so for Microsoft's ****. This is the first time I've seen so much negativity towards it. OpenOffice is a fine program, and considering the fact that it saves you $110, I'd say it's excellent.

I very much agree that this simple problem should be fixed. It seems like Mojang always chooses to ignore glitches like these, ones that could likely be fixed in a matter of minutes. It's very frustrating. Can anyone tweet Notch or another Mojang programmer to remind them?

Actually, I have a better idea. We should find the Mojang office building, and if it is made of bricks, we should completely dismantle it. Then we will have leverage to make our demand: "Give us bricks in Minecraft, and we'll give back your bricks, Mojang."

no, i dont want to feel like im actually mining, thats just stoopid. Thats why i sold my frkin Wii. No, its just really stupid, i dont see how a good game can actually come from kinect.

Read the damn link you neanderthal! Notch says that you can play without kinect.

You will be able to play it without Kinect BUT WITH THE POWER OF KINECT YOU WILL FEEL CLOSER TO YOUR GAME THAN EVAR BEFORE AND ALSO IT SAVES KITTENS

That should ease your troubled, unwilling-to-read mind.

I don't want airplanes in Minecraft personally. I think they would make things too easy. If they were added, there would be no need for things like really long railways or canals or other amazing transportation solutions.
