    Azanor appears in person on the latest forgecraft if anyone's interested. Haven't watched in full myself.


    I put a chicken farm too close to my infusion matrix - baby chickens are not durable enough for that.

    golems are back and *wayyy* cooler than TC4 imo (version 5.1 and later)


    edit: not that TC4 golems weren't great - i just love the new process and customization

    One note - the universe of enchants you can get on a book is larger than the universe of enchants you get on any given item. So your odds of getting repair increase dramatically if you are checking multiple thaumcraft items each cycle instead of just grinding books. i was able to get repair on my TC hoe and pick with maybe 10-15 dummy items. not sure how many books you'd need to grind

    i finished leveling up my lightning focus. might be common knowledge but:



    potency V does not reduce the number of hits required to kill any of the vanilla mobs (compared to potency IV). going to start a new one but i'm pretty sure that if you're just using your wand for standard personal protection you can take one of the chaining/AOE perks and the weapon is no less efficient


    if you couldn't tell my SO is away on business. made a lot of progress the last two days and am loving TC5. i've never gotten this far in TC before and it's tons of fun!

    some observations from early work on automated silverwood node farm:


    a newborn pure node (21 vis) adds 3 vis to the bully it is consumed by

    greatwood golems can survive for about 5 seconds when stuck in a silverwood tree


    a quick follow-up, ran a trial on 10 silverwood trees:


    I spawned 6 nodes on 10 trees. On average the parent node gained 3.8 vis per spawn and 1.9 vis per tree. I got two earth, three water, and one spiritus node, all pure. The average vis in the newborn node was 20.2


    given these rates it would not be hard to automate node production if only to offset flux. I think you would want to stabilize the nodes after a while and switch locations. i'm still working out the, er.. occupational hazards for the golems but I think this could work very well once the investment is made.

    azanor increased the drop rate of saplings so you don't need to *find* a pure node. if you find a tree and cut it down you should get a sustainable amount of saplings to start a farm wherever you want.

    the bore is relatively cheap to run on perditio essentia - i used somewhere between 1/2 - 1 tank to clear out it's full range. i haven't tried running it on aura, which limits the flux production i think. i have a bunch of pure nodes around my base so i guess i can't say for sure that it's absolutely safe but like i said i ran it through a full tunnel job without incident.


    edit: also wanted to respond to kingofrunes - i always preach the gospel of silverwood spam. they are very cheap and in my experience you have a ~15% chance of getting a pure node which will eat a decent amount of flux. i have not had to replace any of my pure nodes although i am much more tender on the aura use/flux production than i was in TC4

    In TC4 this was a much more frequent question because nodes would only spawn in vanilla biomes. Back then people on this forum often suggested editing the configs to increase the weight of Thaumcraft biomes in BOP. Not sure if that is still an option but they may just be incredibly rare, not missing.


    Edit: I was browsing some old reddit posts on this topic and i wanted to add that some BOP biomes are capable of spawning some thaumcraft items if they are a "magical" biome. I don't know exactly what that means, but essentially you can at least get silverwoods without needing a magical forest.

    Empty space designators or even just a description 'put iron bars over the piston' would clear it up a bit but it doesn't actually LOOK for empty space, last I checked, it's only looking for the exact items.


    Also the golem press is just absurdly cool compared to the old way of doing it. Kinda wish the press had an inventory of some sort so we could stack materials in it. Make a bunch of gears and the like and just store them in the press.


    "Absurdly cool" about sums it up. The press is amazing.

    I watched the Direwolf20 video |stone| mentioned, the grappling hook looks amazing. If anyones interested its near the end around 27 minutes. I wonder if that's in 5.0.4?
