    posted a message on The Right Branch of Development. A complete new minecraft experience! 150+ FEATURES, Now with ambient sound loops!
    The Right Branch of Development
    (Version RC2)

    While Mojang releases Mod-like updates, we're developing update-like mods!

    Have you felt like Microsoft is leading minecraft the wrong way? Wasn't it supposed to be a simple survival sandbox game rather than an RPG we have today, that just doesn't feel minecrafty? People are complaining about that more and more ever since beta 1.8 came out. Modders like Exalm, the creator of OldDays brought the feeling back to all nostalgia freaks, one of which I am myself, but he went unactive. WIP projects like NostalgiaProject have also failed. Minecraft still doesn't have that unique feeling that only Notch understood. The feeling of a challenge, of something undescovered and new... I don't know.

    But I think I have this mod as the final response to your nostalgia! You are the judges.

    Don't get me wrong, I do not hate the features that has been added after Notch left Mojang. I find great at least a half of them, but why would they kill what's time-tested?
    Like the beaches from beta? I decied to bring them back as many people were complaining about their lack. Note that I keep the generator!

    Looks perfectly fine to me, even with the scattered noise!

    Note that this is a non-forge mod, like any other mod of mine meaning that everything is done in the original minecraft code.
    So Mojang could've done this easily!

    The generator is the same. That means that

    the mod combines the best both from old and new versions!

    But not just that! We also add some new features that for my opinion should be in the game!
    Let's move through the features:

    Features:

    Green apple
    The green apple is the mod's icon. This is the first mod feature ever.
    Players named "alexcrish" drop green apples when killed.

    Ambient loops
    Back in alpha days Notch planned to add so-called loops which would play in certain environment like singing birds, ocean waves etc. Some of these audio samples could be found in minecraft beta. He renounced this idea later, probably because it would annoy some players. This feature is realized in RBoD RC1 and whenever you need you can adjust the volume of these noises in the sound settings.
    Here is the vanilla sound list:
    1.Birds screaming loop. Executes in the jungle biomes in day time.
    2.Ocean loop. Executes wherever on surface where the water is at least 5 blocks deep.
    3.Cave chimes. Execute in dark dungeons.

    And here is the additional sound list:

    1.Night loop. -Cricket noises. Execute wherever on surface near the trees.

    2.Frogs croaking loop. Execute in the swamp biomes near the water.

    3.Swamp loop. -Birds + frogs. Execute in the swamp biome near the trees.

    4.Wind loop. -Executes everywhere above the 128th block under the open sky.

    5.Cave loop. -Executes everywhere under the 32th block where blocks can't see the sky.

    Here is the video showing the loops in action:

    Sand and Gravel Beaches!
    Taken straight from beta code and imported in 1.7.10!
    This feature can be downloaded separately for 1.10.

    The Green Lands
    Basically an alpha biome. If you're tired of the boring terrain that always looks the same try finding yourself a place of eden with very green grass everyone was missing back in beta! Note that it replaces to savanna biome. I'm sorry at this point, but I always felt like it's just not minecrafty enough. (Also this means that you can use 1.7.10 savanna seeds if you want to spawn in one of these)

    Flooded Caves
    Flooded caves were a feature in indev. I have created a new block of water that spreads infinitely until it reaches all of the borders. Once it's unable to fill any more space it reverts back to normal water. Using this technique the flooded caves and ravines were created!

    Higher Mountains

    The mountain biome height is increased by 2!

    Morning Fog

    Sometimes in the morning you can observe an interesting natural phenomena. The fog is basically minecraft beta on tiny but it comes naturally. Moreover, zombies and skeletons don't burn during the fog, since the sun is invisible.

    Isn't it beautiful anyway?

    Pigman Villagers

    Notch originally wanted to populate the villages with pigmen but instead he decided that caveman squidwards would be a better idea for some reason.

    This is probably what we could've get instead of what we have now:

    Pigs Eat Everything

    This mod makes pigs not only eat but also seek fot certain kinds of blocks. The list of blocks includes all kinds of mushrooms, carrots, potatoes.

    The same goes about dropped items.

    Cows eat grass

    The main purpose of eating grass for cows is restoring their ability to give milk.

    Sheep and cows eat leaves

    Torches on Slabs

    New building possibilities!

    Apples, Acorns and Cones

    Too many people wanted the apple trees, so why not have them instead of random apple drops from leaves?

    Better Pumpkin / Melon Farming

    This mod makes cucurbits grow more natural!

    Also the stem has a chance to die.

    Classic Hoes

    Use the hoe to get seeds from grass like in the good old days before beta 1.6.

    Get pumpkin seeds using iron hoe and melon seeds using the diamond one! Also the drop ammount increases with the harvest level.

    Download this feature for 1.10.

    Classic Bows

    The bows have 2 modes. The default one is automatic one from minecraft alpha / beta.

    Holding down shift however makes it shoot like a normal bow we have today.

    Classic Bugs

    Minecart boosters and water lifts were fixed in minecraft beta 1.6. This mod has brought back even these features!

    1.10 version can be found here

    Also check out the old infinite log burning!

    "Classic" Pistons

    Before pistons were originally based on an early minecraft beta pistons mod, one of the cool features of which was the block/entity launching. Sadly this was never implemented in vanilla. This mod feature will make the game better once again!

    Animated Doors/ Trapdoors

    Notch originally planned to make the doors have their own closing and opening animations. Back in infdev he even created a texture for the future animated tileentity but for some reason desided to render the doors like a normal block. I've managed to get as close as possible to what was in his mind using the same texture and although it works well as a tileentity, the 2/8 block offset may be the reason he renounced this feature. Otherwise the animation would not be right having a different rotation point at closed and opened position.

    Cave Maps

    When maps were first added in minecraft back in beta 1.6, Notch said that he had an idea about the cave maps, although this doesn't mean that it was in upcoming features. And the idea is good indeed! However that would make finding caves no longer a challange meaning the maps to be a bit cheaty. My solve to this problem is decreasing the view radius aroung the player and being unnable to draw the map while moving on land above the sea level! Overall it looks as I imagined it back when I didn't know how to do coding. However the cavelayers are inverted meaning a one cave located underneath the over will draw above it. But I hope it's not a big deal since the most precious ores are located in the deepest caves.

    Can be found in dungeons only!

    Waterfalls

    When a stream of water hits static water you can hear an old unused sound of waterfall, which used to be in the game files.

    Also it spawns the steam particles!

    Fixed Static Liquid Side Texture

    The side texture of a static liquid block no longer renders as of a dynamic one.

    Chicks

    Replace the stupid pygmy baby chickens. They sound like chicks aswell!

    Fireflies

    Just a simple night ambient addition. They spawn randomly or on player walking through the tall grass.

    New Clouds

    Twice as big and high. They are rendered in two layers. There is still some work to be done related to them.

    Blocks In Water

    Mojang never mentioned water rendering on non-opaque blocks, butI think it's something that should've been done a long time ago!

    Note Block Pipe Organ Effect

    You will need a reed block underneath the note block to make it sound like a pipe organ. The ammount of reed blocks underneath it will determine the note length. Also you can add netherrack instead of reed blocks to make it sound deep.

    Mobs No Longer Jump In The Water If They Don't Need To

    Randomly Jumping Animals

    Just like before the 1.2 update came out they walk around and jump randomly for no reason. This seemed fun!

    Better Snow

    Once again Mojang, why not?

    Gravity affected snow

    As featured in pocket edition.

    Improved TNT

    The TNT has now better physics as shown in the video. Moreover it can be deactivated using shears!

    Also since RC1 you can put TNT into furnace and make it pop out of it. This can be useful making the automated mines. Or troll your friends whenever the server is released!

    Sponges

    In minecraft alpha there was a myth about being able to find a sponge under the sand. This myth comes true now! Plus it has a use.

    Classic Lighting

    For those who are missing the colorless light!

    Of course you could've just use the mcpatcher to change the light the way you want, but I wanted to make myself a challange to change it straight in the code.

    I have been struggling for almost a year for this result!

    Fast Minecart With Furnace

    What was the last time you used a "minecart with furnace"? I don't want it to be forgotten, so I decided to tweak the mechanics. Now you can use different types of fuel to lit it and travel without any golden rails. Although you can use the boosters bug, these are much faster.

    Classic Fire

    Spreads faster + infinite log burning is back!

    Scarecrows

    Notch had an idea about adding scarecrows involving them to attract monsters.

    But instead we have snowmen...

    You better not use it as a decoration on your wheat fields unless you have it inaccessible to monsters, otherwise they will destroy the wheat around the scarecrow!

    More Paintings

    Created by the same artist.

    Bigger Chests

    For your aestetic pleasures.

    Hibachi

    Another thing that just so needs to be in the game. In minecraft indev we used to cook food instantly using fire, and now I present you the hibachi!

    Hibachi is a redstone powered block that can turn fire on and off. Using it you can cook like in indev!

    The cage can be obtained by mining the mob spawner.

    Boiling Water

    This is a unique feature with it's own sound offects that makes water located 2 blocks above the source of heat deal damage. Unless the fire comes from the hibachi, mentioned above. It's a little hardcore feature in flooded caves that have lava beneath the obsidian floor. Often only there you are able to find diamonds!

    The next features are somewhat hardcore

    Have you felt like minecraft now feels to easy? For instance, the diamonds' are no longer that valuable as they used to be before enchanting got introduced into the game. Surviving the night is not always a challange if all the monster just sit in the caves. And remember how uncommon the clay used to be? And mushrooms? These little difficulties truly make the game interesting! I hope you are ready for some challanges that I offer you and experience the game like never before!

    Here we go:

    Finite Torches

    Back in alpha Notch wanted to make torches fade in course of time and replace them with lanterns. But the community didn't like this idea so he had to postpone this feature. I decided to test how it would work out and I'm pretty sure this should've been implemented as it brings more survival challange! Because now you need to find iron and flint besides coal to light your house up.

    Do you remember the time animals used to spawn on grass near the torches? As a little buff lanterns have brought that feature back!

    3 Times More Monsters

    Not much to say about that rather than "now that is achallenge!". At this point you will feel like a noob again.

    No peaceful

    There is peaceful in the difficulty menu to fix some crashes, but in reality it's easy. I always found peaceful a bit cheaty due to the fact you can remove all the monsters by clicking while being trapped. Just try to never get in a situation like that.

    Skeletons Shoot Through Glass Panes

    So can the players since RC3.

    Beds Don't Reset The Spawn Point

    Death must be a punishment. You won't feel the pleasure of the game being indifferent to your life!

    No Coordinates on F3

    Notch has done a great job on compass and maps, and we never use them because of the coordinate system! This needs to be stopped!

    Diamonds in Caves Only

    No more tunneling for diamonds! This way the diamonds are valuable again!

    Dangerous Creepers

    Often creepers swell and cool down instead of exploding. Now they have a 25% chance to explode anyway!

    Moreover creeper will increase it's movement speed if it's damaged by the player.

    Zombies Feel The Player

    Zombies can see through walls meaning that you need to get yourself locked in the house well.

    Sometimes they can make a long way though the mineshaft to get you, if the entrance in the mine is located in your house.

    Limited Milk

    After milking a cow you need to wait a while to do so again.

    Less Coal

    25% less coal is generated in caves. There's still a lot of it!

    No Flint Farming

    You can no longer get flint from the gravel you've already mined before.

    No Health Regen

    Use food to heal yourself instantly.

    Download this feature with no hunger for 1.10

    Optional Hunger

    Hunger originally should have become optional in beta 1.8. This mod enables it on hard difficulty only!

    Unstackable Food

    You can't just go mining forever having a stack of steaks in the pocket!

    posted a message on Classic Beaches Mod! Both sand and gravel, taken straight from good old beta!
    Classic Beaches

    Do you still remember the time when worlds in minecraft used to have nice looking sand borders around the islands, those magnificent flat areas covered with sand where everyone used to spawn on? My first house back in 2011 was build on one of these beaches and since beta 1.8 came out they're gone!

    There were many people upset after this update but for some reason Mojang just never heard us.

    But I'm not going to talk about the story much, here is the thread instead:

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-discussion/suggestions/53985-bring-back-beaches

    Here is the thing. As I remember Jeb explained his unwillingness to bring back the beaches by the fact that he should've rewrite the entire worldgen code.

    I've made an experiment and now it's a mod that will respond to your nostalgia. A NON-FORGE MOD! By that I mean that I edit the pure code the way the Mojang does.

    Here is the whole code:

    public void replaceBiomeBlocks(int x, int z, ChunkPrimer primer, Biome[] biomesIn)
    {
    byte byte0 = 63;
    double d = 0.03125D;
    sandNoise = field_909_n.generateNoiseOctaves(sandNoise, x * 16, z * 16, 0.0D, 16, 16, 1, d, d, 1.0D);
    gravelNoise = field_909_n.generateNoiseOctaves(gravelNoise, x * 16, 109.0134D, z * 16, 16, 1, 16, d, 1.0D, d);
    stoneNoise = field_908_o.generateNoiseOctaves(stoneNoise, x * 16, z * 16, 0.0D, 16, 16, 1, d * 2D, d * 2D, d * 2D);
    for(int k = 0; k < 16; k++)
    {
    for(int l = 0; l < 16; l++)
    {
    Biome biomegenbase = biomesIn[k + l * 16];

    boolean flag = sandNoise[k + l * 16] + rand.nextDouble() * 0.20000000000000001D > 0.0D;
    boolean flag1 = gravelNoise[k + l * 16] + rand.nextDouble() * 0.20000000000000001D > 3D;
    int i1 = (int)(stoneNoise[k + l * 16] / 3D + 3D + rand.nextDouble() * 0.25D);
    int j1 = -1;
    IBlockState byte1 = biomegenbase.topBlock;
    IBlockState byte2 = biomegenbase.fillerBlock;

    for(int k1 = 255; k1 >= 0; k1--)
    {
    int l1 = (l * 16 + k) * 256 + k1;
    if(k1 <= 0 + rand.nextInt(5))
    {
    primer.setBlockState(l, k1, k, BEDROCK);
    }
    IBlockState byte3 = primer.getBlockState(l, k1, k);

    if(byte3 == AIR)
    {
    j1 = -1;
    continue;
    }
    if(byte3 != STONE)
    {
    continue;
    }
    if(j1 == -1)
    {
    if(i1 <= 0)
    {
    byte1 = AIR;
    byte2 = STONE;
    } else
    if(k1 >= byte0 - 4 && k1 <= byte0 + 1)
    {
    byte1 = biomegenbase.topBlock;
    byte2 = biomegenbase.fillerBlock;
    if(flag1)
    {
    byte1 = AIR;
    }
    if(flag1)
    {
    byte2 = GRAVEL;
    }
    if(flag)
    {
    byte1 = SAND;
    }
    if(flag)
    {
    byte2 = SAND;
    }
    }
    if(k1 < byte0 && byte1 ==AIR)
    {
    byte1 = WATER;
    }
    j1 = i1;
    if(k1 >= byte0 - 1)
    {
    primer.setBlockState(l, k1, k, byte1);
    } else
    {
    primer.setBlockState(l, k1, k, byte2);
    }
    continue;
    }
    if(j1 <= 0)
    {
    continue;
    }
    j1--;
    primer.setBlockState(l, k1, k, byte2);
    if(j1 == 0 && byte2 == SAND)
    {
    j1 = rand.nextInt(4);
    byte2 = SANDSTONE;
    }
    }
    }
    }
    }

    And here is how it works:

    What about that, Jeb?

    Now that's a whole different world! This way you will definitely get more interested in traveling and exploring the landscapes!

    This mod is an upcoming feature for The Right Branch of Development mod for 1.7.10, but I decided to include it in my 1.10 minimods as it deserves a separate topic. Also the mod was written in a few hours in vanilla code, so will it be so tough for Mojang to make our wish come true?

    Here is the video explaining how it works:
