When I first joined in 2011, the forums were always flooded with people. I returned to these forums a couple of weeks ago, and I noticed a dramatic change in user count. Some people still make accounts to use the forums, so you can say that its like a 1:2 ratio of users who still use the forums (in general if you count other sites). Discord gives you more capabilities than any other instant chat room site I have ever seen, being the modern version of AOL Instant Messaging.

Well tbf to discord I only use it to chat. I've got three out of the four channels I go to from members of other sites online that started a channel of their own. I don't really use it in the capacity it's meant for because I don't PC game. I have consoles to play games on. I just noticed the similarity to chat rooms of old when I was first invited to a discord channel the first time.

It's interesting for an internet old timer how discord is just chat rooms from the 90's and seems to be the new thing for interacting outside of sites considered "social media". It is indeed sad that forums are dying. It's a format I enjoy participating in. But over the years, even as far back as 4 years ago or so, I've seen forums I was a member of shut down, reboot, or just left to limbo. I have only 4 message boards out of a dozen left that are in the category of "active", that I still post in.

posted a message on Thought on the new Zelda game.

I've been putting some time into it, and without spoilers, I'd say I am about halfway through the main story quest. But there is a lot to do and a lot to accomplish that you can do at your own pace. There is several different modes of travel and yeah sometimes it can be daunting at first to try and get around at the start of the game. This is kind of what kept me from playing more of it when I did first fire it up. But as you get to exploring more of the map and get things discovered you will see that a lot of the fast travel points aren't all random and you will be returning to these same points multiple times, so travel becomes less of a chore. The incentive is to go after more of these points. And since after the initial tasks are completed and you can free roam you can open up all these points. Which really helps out later in the game as you go to exploring more areas and completing other side quests..

I personally enjoy many of the side quest and exploration aspects of it. There's a ton of stuff around, even though there are a lot of empty, areas where you just might encounter a few enemies and that's it. But the side quests and main quest will help you flesh out your map (though I opened up all the towers on the map before I even started on the meat of the main quest) so you can find points of interest and other things that will help you.

The size of the open world can be a bad or good thing depending on your personal likes. I get really into games when I find one I like. And if they're often not big games I tend to play them multiple times before I start on something new. But BotW is huge, so it's going to keep me occupied, so the prospect of this game having tons of hours of enjoyable play time for me come from the huge size of the world and all the things I already know I still can/want to do as well as new things, and people I discover to give me more to do. It hasn't become repetitive for me yet, but I can see that happening. I can see the game possibly running out of steam for me, but as of yet, it hasn't.

All in all, it's one of the best games I have played of this generation. And the first (for me, my kids use it a lot even before) time the Wii U has gotten this much use from me.

What happened in 2011? I wasn't here. Did it go as bad as my 2011 did?
