Sep 26, 2010Posted in: SuggestionsQuote from Nurrigan »Obsidian was historically used as weaponry by some civilizations that hadn't developed advanced metalworking techniques. It's a sort of glass and therefore sharp (but brittle) and easily used for some sorts of weapons. (Like studded clubs and arrows and the sort.)
Obviously, MInecraft obsidian is a bit different... but I don't think it (if it were made into an item like iron or diamonds) would be good if it were to surpass diamonds as the best material. Nothing is harder than diamonds (although Minecraft might not adhere to this). The real (and gameplay-based) objection to this idea I have is that obsidian is a lot easier to get at than diamonds. Diamonds are really rather rare. Conversely, you can farm obsidian. That is a very apparent reason (and really all the reason you need) as to why it shouldn't really be much better than diamonds, or even steel. Perhaps obsidian could be a step up from stone (and craftable into armour), which would be rather handy. Obsidian being better than an ore is something I don't see it happening, truthfully.
I was reading this and it just came to me, Obsidian Arrows. It could a better arrow then the ones you can make.
