You'll probably get more requests if you show off some of the skins you have already made.

posted a message on I'll make you a skin or cartoon picture!
Alright I got two difficult ones for you here. Detail them as much as you can, vivid colors are welcome, also stay close to each subject matter.

Specifications: Option A is some sort of witch of time or clockwork, so it would be appropriate to draw gears on the clothing or perhaps the large pocket watch you see there. Option B depicts more of ...well I don't really know HOW to describe that type of witch, but keep in mind the differences between each option. Just make sure to include the frills, that bow, the satchel, the glasses, the braid running down the shoulder, etc. Another thing; let the longer hair run down the back of each sprite, but on option B make sure NOT to cover the star symbol. You can leave the staves out of both pictures, of course.

Take as much time as you need (generally I prefer NOT to wait for more than a few days). Also, for the love of mercy, do NOT color in monotone clothing, skin, and hair colors; I like it when my skins look more like a minecraft character and not a LEGO character. Lets see how you do.

    Option A

    Option B

Artwork requests huh? Well, if you successfully manage to skin Option B, I have one for you. Try drawing her in a giant library, battling some great foe (can be of your choosing, anything from a creeper to Mike Tyson). Of course, seeing as this witch would be using destructive magic like you see pictured, half the library is on fire and many of the librarians are trying to save as many books as they can. Other than that, I'll leave it up to you.

Oh, and if you are one of those artists that is irritated when people ask for unoriginal things, I can honestly say that both of these are original artwork of nothing in particular that I pulled from the depths of the internet.

posted a message on Idea: Pagancraft / Tribecraft / Primitivecraft, etc.
Pagancraft (or whatever hell this will be called) would be a mod that overhauls a large part of minecraft to make it more like living in ancient times. Crafting recipes would be made more expensive. Tools last for shorter amounts of time and are more difficult to craft. The player would build their own tribe and worship pagan gods of harvest, sun, moon, etc.

Many crafting recipes would be made more complex. For example, wood tools themselves would have to have to be carbonized in a fire before being of any use. Sticks would no longer be viable handles on heavy tools such as pickaxes; bone would have to be used, and would play a much larger part in tool and structure construction. Cobblestone would not be a viable to make anything but axes or clubs because most rocks aren't shaped like swords or pickaxe blades. String, tar, and sinew would have to be used as crafting agents.

This mod would add in copper ore and tin ore, possibly taking some of the ores from Redpower2 World. A new liquid resource would be tar, which spawn in pools across the landscape much like lava and water. It would have a very low spread value and have a high heat value. Much like lava, except less heat and more viscosity. Tar would be a main ingredient in many crafting recipes for tools and buildings. Another resource would be bone, which would spawn from all killed animals. A killed animal would drop a pile of bones and meat. The player would be able to craft the pile of bones into a small number of each type of bone. Different bones would have different purposes; fingers could be used to make charms, skulls could be crafted to sticks and act as "scarecrows" to mobs, femurs and ribs could be used as tool handles and building material. For the meat, one would have to cure it before eating it for long term storage. A craftable curing hut or rack could be implemented.

Mineral veins will become much rarer, but the veins themselves will increase in size dramatically. For example, coal veins will be much, MUCH larger than before, but maybe only have a 10% chance of spawning in any one chunk (higher chance in mountain biomes). You can think about a significant increase from maybe a 16-32 coal in a vein to several stacks worth. Mining times will also be increased for all tools. Diamond is fine as it is, though. The general idea is to put less emphasis on advanced materials for crafting and more as items of spiritual and symbolic value, as they thought of them in ancient times. This encourages a player to focus less on gathering ore and more on getting materials from trees, bushes, and wildlife.

Gold and diamond tools and armor will be taken out altogether, with iron tools or bronze tools as the best. Leather armor would be the primary armor, but upgradable with some forged iron attachments. No idea what to do with redstone; could be implemented to make charms that amplify the blessings of the gods? A construction element in the shrines?

Most crafting blocks such as forges would be increased in size, requiring multiple blocks before being usable. The player has to build a “complete” standalone structure for the forge to work. A forge would require a bellows, anvil for iron tools, ample supply of coal, etc. This is similar to the way Railcraft handles its coal coke and blast furnaces. The forge itself could smelt multiple ores at a time, but it would take much longer to smelt; likely half a day at least for each ingot.

Because everything is more expensive, there should be an addition of human companions that one can assemble; the player makes their own tribe. This would help them in automation of production of materials, such as tanning leather, the preparation of food, and mining. The player could create small hunting parties that go out and hunt wild boar and cow. We could integrate the mod with Mo'Creatures, as well.

Pagancraft would add more ways to get items from mobs, such as skinning, choice selection of meats, and use of bone in tools. The rate of hunger loss would be dramatically increased, and thirst would be added. Player would also have significantly reduced backback size, or maybe just decrease the number of items in any stack that a player could carry, with less per stack of “heavier” materials such as rock and ore.

Finally, the most critical part of the mod is the worship of pagan gods for buffs. The player would build shrines for these gods, and carry out sacrifices and offerings of valuable metals and materials such as diamond and gold. For example, one could give a pagan god an offering of iron in the shape of a shield that would imbue the player with a resistance buff for a long period of time (a few hours, maybe), or an offering of a lamb to a sun god for more profitable harvest (ei. Rate of crop collection doubles for a certain amount of time). The shrines themselves could be upgraded in power by adding on more trinkets to the shrine, much the same way an enchantment table increases in power by surrounding it with bookcases. A shrine of battle strength could increase in power by surrounding it with those skull-on-a-stick I mentioned earlier. After obtaining all the different blessings from all the different pagan gods, the player would becoming an “ascended being” with incredible powers. If nothing else, this should be the part of the mod that implemented.

I realize that this is elaborate as hell and changes a large part of how minecraft plays. It caters more towards survival mode and much less to creative. In its entirety, it would require one to rewrite large parts of the engine. Its a cool idea, though. Worth thinking about.

Hey Ian, whats up? Still flooding with requests, I see.

You know, just some of my own thoughts: One would think if they were HD skins, people would try and put together some really creative requests (and I do see some here), but it still amazes me that people will ask for simple skins in larger resolution. I mean, is it really that important to them? See, when I think of an HD skin, its primarily there so the user can appreciate it. Most people won't be able to see the HD skin outside of one's client. One would want something complex, that holds a certain beauty to it, something that an artist can't do with a standard resolution skin (there isn't much one can). But even still, some people choose really simple artwork after all. Its baffling, really.

I mean, what do you think?

Looks like this is the only one i'll be able to get to you. sadly, something went wrong ( i think the file saved as a 28bit), so the quality was decreased. I'll smooth it out for you later but this'll be it for today.

Nah, no problem. Take your time. HD skins shouldn't be rushed. Plus, its not like I'm going to use them anytime soon. I have to wait for mods to update to run on minecraft 1.3 when that comes out tomorrow, so that HD mod that enables these skins won't be usable in at least a few days. But anyway, great job so far! Keep up the effort.

posted a message on Pistons in 1.3?
Actually, I'm curious about the pistons as well. Will the new pistons respond as fast as they did to rapid repeaters? Or does the delay slow it down to the point where it acts more like trying to wire a repeater to a redstone lamp? As in, instead of rapidly responding, it just stays in the on position?

Furthermore, do you think TNT compressor cannons are still possible with how they are slowing them down?
