I hate to say it, but it is very likely you are screwed. I hope you were keeping backups.

You'll need to decide on 1) how confident you are when it comes to technology - specifically, performing a potential hardware repair yourself, and 2) how valuable the data is. If the data is extremely valuable [and maybe you not confident with a repair], it's off to a drive recovery professional you go. Their services are very expensive, and of course not guaranteed, but it's the best shot at getting some data back.

If you're feeling confident, it's time to attempt to recover the data yourself. I found one article via Google that may help - http://lifehacker.com/5982339/diy-data-recovery-tricks-for-when-your-hard-drive-goes-belly-up - but it'll be up to you to research your problem and take the steps necessary to fix it (although it may get to the point where the repair requires access to a clean room).

If the data isn't valuable (i.e. not worth spending the potentially very hefty cost of repair) and you're not confident, it's game over.

Remember, always keep backups. Hard drives are more prone to failure compared to other parts.

Okay I guess I need to click Quote instead of Reply ... why does the Reply button exist then?

So I asked this once a few months ago, but since how much things have changed since then, I'll ask this again:

Which of these should I make be my second map, after Ender Darkness?

    -snip-

Also a few things to note for all of these:
    1. They'll all be in 1.8 full release.
    2. They'll all be pretty villager trading heavy (in comparison to other maps, I just like the trading option).
    3. They all probably will use a different monument than a wool one.
    4. They'll all have lore.

Also please tell me which ones you like and which ones you dislike, not just your favorite :P and of course, suggestions are welcome.

Don't even consider your next map until you finish the current one. Before you know it you can't resist the temptation to get started on the second map and many weeks later you have two incomplete maps rather than one complete one.

Besides, your second map should show clear improvement over the first, and there's no way that's happening if you start thinking about it now.

IMO, when you come up with an idea for a map, the best course of action is to write some notes on it, shelve it, and don't look at it again until your current project is done. When you revisit the idea when considering your second map after the first is actually complete, and with the criticisms of your first map in mind, you might just find that some ideas haven't stood up well over time.

Well, maybe it's only me, but if you add a lot of stuff like that, tables, tapestries, food, dishes, you make players feel really guilty if stuff blows up, if they place lava, blocks, or dig into the walls. Maybe it's just me, although it's not OCD that does it. It feels more like you totally wreck the area, instead of just using MC's mechanics to your advantage.

What, you feel like you're wrecking a nice area, so the solution is to not have a nice area at all?
You are totally wrecking the area but there's nothing wrong with that.

CTMcommunity joint account, will I have to send a PM to get my map on the release list or will it be added "automatically"?

The joint account isn't really a trusted entity anymore since the password was leaked like a year ago. You should PM Krose, who is the Map Updater. (Drago and Fangride do general stuff so you could ping them too if you wanted to.)

Oh wow, I just realized how I haven't post anything in this thread...

But really, the discussion about the whole CTM has gotten more into adventure map thingy made me want to abandon my current project and start on a new map with less gimmicks, less command blocks, and blah blah. Basically a more survival oriented CTM like Skeeto mention.

I mean don't get me wrong, I love working on my current project (Azchamras' Dimension), but I realized that this map is going to have a pretty decent amount of redstone gimmicks and contraptions that I forgot the real reason why I want to make CTM in the first place: making beautiful and dangerous areas with less redstone contraptions.

Please don't throw it away! Abandoning half-finished projects is probably the most common and easiest trap to fall into when it comes to creative endeavours. Always finish what you start.

THis might be the veteran in me talking, but I remember the original Sea of Flames and Infernal Sky, Survival maps designed before the idea of the monument, and the wools added in later. What got me into these maps was the idea of survival in a harsh and vicious enviroment, and recently a lot of maps have started to feel more like an offshoot of the adventure genre than the survival genre.

I'm all for story and handing out loot, but c'mon, Kaizo caverns still stands up to these criterion better than some of the maps I've seen be lauded by this community (interestingly out of all the maps I replayed on 1.7.9, Kaizo is still the most compatible. TMYK). As an example of what I'm talking about, I imagine everyone in here has seen a Zisteau CTM playthrough (or at least part of one). This is a man who wants to make the world his own personal playground, and treats it like he would a survival world, building cool bases, making useful farms and so on. (If you haven't already, go watch Legendary. I know it's 49 episodes long but I still maintain it's the best series on youtube). I miss the idea that a CTM isn't an example of what cool gimmick you can come up with for an area and more about the idea of creating a world that the player wanted to play in rather than their silly and excessively easy vanilla.

I guess CTM has changed - evolved - for worse or better. I do believe that if we had never changed from "Survival++", CTM would be long dead by now as the genre would've been fully explored. Branching out into Adventure effectively makes the possibilities for a CTM map endless, although a Survival-focused map still has a place in CTM IMO.

Lol, it says "1-click SSL"; I'm wondering if MCForums has fixed the Heartbleed bug yet.

I doubt it - if they hadn't, chances are the majority of the Curse network would've been compromised long ago.
