There's a map coming out in the future that you're gonna love.

So this is a sort of weird one but.....

    Community question:
In what aspects do you think BD2 failed, and how could it have been done better/improved? Also what do you expect from future monster hunter open world themed CTM's? Also you can't say "all of them" as an answer for the first question :P

totally irrelevant to my own monster hunter open world CTM....

The lack of the Underground. Everything looked the same - it was all just sand and cacti and sand and cacti. It got old real fast. You don't have to necessarily do an Underground, but please make sure the terrain doesn't all look the same.

Also, the lack of any clue as to where to go. In the original BD, your attention is immediately drawn to the lit cake, which when eaten reveals the Underground. In BD2, you kind just have to pick a direction and hope that you're not wasting your time.

Finally, hunting down the wool monsters gets really tedious. All the monsters had varying bull enchantments - I remember one in particular had some retarded amount of Thorns. Having to hunt the monsters meant there was no variation, every wool involved doing more or less the same task. Collecting the wool felt like grinding.

BD2 was, without a doubt, the worst map ever made by Vechs. No wonder it never got out of beta. Please don't repeat the mistakes he made.

For a long time I was searching and hoping that someone somewhere would create a proper city ctm map. For a long time I was satisfied with From Ashes and From Flames, but finally I found it, a proper city ctm. It's not the best map by any stretch (low difficulty and random lewt galore), but I definitely think you guys should check it out. Post Apocalyptic Survival CTM

posted a message on CTM Community RFW League
Before I even begin, why are the rules in a GDoc? If we can't edit it there is no reason for it to be hosted separately.

Plenty of criticism I have, so prepare yourself:
    • What maps are you gonna play? RFW has died out recently, most maps are for much earlier versions. The one I made is for 1.3. Vechs' first map is for b1.7.3. Are you going to source new maps, or downgrade MC versions? (I might be interested in helping you make a map for it, if I can find the time.)
    • Randomised teams: big point of RFW is team spirit and getting better as time progresses as you learn to work with each other and develop clever strategies. This isn't UHC. By ripping apart a team every round, you're preventing players from being able to find what really works, because they're all forced to work together to achieve something only one person will be awarded in the end.
    • Lol where are you going to find 32 people available at once? We all live in vastly different timezones.
    • 7 rounds of RFW is an INSANELY LONG TIME, this has the potential to stretch the meet to well over 16 hours depending on the map. People likely won't have a good block of time to dedicate, so a meet may well end up taking a couple of months.
    • 2-4 person teams: 2 person team would have a huge disadvantage versus the team with double their numbers. Not fair at all.
    • One person wins at an RFW meet ... the hell? I thought this was RFW, a team based game.
    • Bonus awards sound neat. It does have potential to throw off teamwork, a player may be enticed to waste time killing mobs to achieve an extra monument block for an advantage for the one award. Also, how are you going to keep track of all these statistics? Not a fan of the names though, I'll go into that...
    • Honorable mentions, again the concept is fine but the names are stupid. We aren't Mindcrack, we're not Mindcrack fans, so why are you shoving Mindcrack references everywhere? (Also for the other half of TTR, for their references.) They have absolutely nothing to do with RFW and with us, so they shouldn't be there. Yay, I placed the most lava, I'm just like Zisteau ... enough of the celebrity worship.
The idea of a RFW tourney is nice, and you being willing to organise it is much appreciated, but I see absolutely no reason to go for this mess of a format. You haven't done anything to justify why we should use this format over the standard tournament structure, which is proven to be fair, actually encourages you to work with your teammates and to trust each other, and doesn't take forever.

So I have one question: why? Why should we do this instead of a normal 4v4?

No, I meant aesthetics. Idk, the look and feel of the areas really appealed to me. I know other maps have more elaborate areas with a lot more detail work, but there's something about the trimmed down, crisp and unified look of IM that I really enjoy. Again though, just my opinion.

Remember folks, aesthetics are ultimately subjective. You can point out certain things that do [not] exist in the map - e.g. Inferno Mines has (a lot of) visible brush strokes and no block variation - but whether or not you actually [dis]like those things or not is up to you.

I doubt it - if they hadn't, chances are the majority of the Curse network would've been compromised long ago.

Nightmare realms was one of my favourite vechs maps:

It was open world, which is significantly tougher to make than linear branching

It was sky world based, which is also difficult to make

The difficulty of creation should not be taken into account when judging a map. Just because it took me 1,000,000 hours to make something doesn't automatically make it good.

And really, an Open World map with positive block placement isn't TOO difficult. People simply shy away from Open World now because of a key flaw it has in that the difficulty curve can easily be broken.

    Quote from rexxefa

[talking about nightmare realm] I don't think some people enjoy the harsh difficulty this map have

Well, apparently today my ISP just decided to block imgur (and reddit). So I can't see any screenshots by you guys. "Yay!".
And I just done making an area and I'm about to ask for feed backs, but once again, imgur problem.

I am using postimage.org to post this image (lol), but if anyone knows a better alternate image hosting site, please tell me.

I'd get in touch with your ISP and ask them why they blocked those sites.

(This is depending on where you live, if you don't live in a MEDC it may be censorship related.)

Until then, there actually isn't a very good replacement for imgur. Most other image hosting sites delete older images, block access to an image if traffic to it is too low or too high, or have limitations on uploads :/

Also, will the CTMCommunity account get a logo/something or will it be forever a grey Steve face? Just wondering, cause it's been a year.

It used to have the proper profile picture until the debacle last year when someone managed to get in and screwed around with the OP. The profile picture was reverted back to the default at one point and hasn't been restored since.

I don't have the picture on my hard drive, probably Drago or Fangride has it somewhere, so hopefully they'll see this and fix it ;)

RE oldtimers coming back: hello again, people from the old days! I'm still here, how strange.
We still need to get Red's butt back on here.

Hey, don't feel too bad about taking over a year to finish an LP, mine is nearing two years old with four episodes published (and it's of Spellbound Caves no less! It just happens to be upside down). You'd be hard-pressed to progress slower than me :P

    Pantheon, noun

A group of gods usually worshipped in a polytheistic religion.

(That or that thing in Rome.).

Also: "a building in which the illustrious dead of a nation are buried or honoured."

    ;)

Pantheons typically have the pillars-triangle-roof structure, which is why you see several of them in the map Pantheon, and why Pantheon's logo looks like it does.

Can I have feedback for this please? Everything behind the pillars isn't done, so please do not refer to it. I'm asking feedback for the whole front part.

    Haha, look, it's a pantheon

Main criticism is that the stairs have a monotone look. I'm guessing that block variation will look stupid on stairs, so try adding a little design motif or just try and make the stairs smaller (that is not going to be fun climb).

Also, maybe a little less bright, that's a lot of stark white in my face. Redstone torches for a dimmer light, maybe?

No, it's fine, I've been recklessly saying things that should've been thought through a lot before posting. The thing that happened was Infamy throwing me under the bus when I asked what the current discussion was--- still a bit butthurt after that, not gonna try and say otherwise, but it was annoying and it fit into the context of his comment quite well and he was responded to fine. Alright, I'll say about 65% of the people who responded to the argument were like that. When I said "most people", I really meant to say most people who addressed the argument. Sorry.

    Hey, it's all goods.

I guess some people are just more hostile than others, it's how we humans are.

    "most people"

Could you please tell me where "most people" said this? An exact quote? Changing the statement from "everyone" to "the majority" is still throwing people under the bus when they haven't been proven to say such a thing.

I'm sorry if I come off as overzealous about this, but I administrate the thread so I feel a certain duty to protect the reputation of the people who visit it from falsities. We're not all evil just because we talk about things in a different thread.

According to the CTM Community thread, if you ask anything about what's currently going on, then you're "rude and pompous". Not my words or thoughts, theirs.

I'd suggest that it would not be a good idea not to group a huge amount of people, some of which merely pass and go every now and then, into a single hive-minded entity. Not everyone believes in the same thing just because they like to talk about the same subject in the same place. (This applies to any and every online "community" in existence.)

If that is the CTM community's "words or thoughts", I'd like to see where exactly you got that quote that represents everyone there.

    Community question:
When did you join this thread, and when did you start mapmaking and what made you start mapmaking?

Man, this is going back a long time ago. Specifically referring to CTM Community, I "joined" (it's really an incorrect choice of word, there's no membership or anything stupid like that, open forum) back in the first iteration run by Goreae, which is going many years back.

I started mapmaking in July 2011, inspired by what Vechs had made so far - specifically Infernal Sky - and realising that very few people had actually started their own CTM maps. I was one the of first to start a thread for my maps. (To give you an idea, the very first, Survivalist Haven by MistaGrinch, was posted on 22 July 2011, and my thread, Elemental Survival, was posted 31 July 2011.)

Ultimately it's ironic because although I was one of the first to start, I never finished making a full 16-wool map. I'm certainly not going to start now - all the fancy command blocks and custom mobs and all are too complicated for me to keep up with. Well, what can you do.
