Well, I just learned java not too long ago, and I need something to work on if I am ever to improve. Reading code is one thing. Writing it is another. I'd love to help, just bare with me if I stumble a little :smile.gif:

Oh, and I LOVE Harvest Moon, especially AWL and ToT. And Friends of Mineral Town. And, well, all of them really. :biggrin.gif:

AWL is one of my favs. Also one of my first Harvest Moon games. I've played all of the others so far (on the SNES, Wii, DS, and especially Gamecube.)

The idea sounds great though, and if you need help, I'd love to help.

You can see your enemies coming, and in the time it takes them to get in, you can smelt some diamond ore, craft a sword, eat some porkchops, and still sit there a bit waiting for them.

    Why do we play minecraft?

Why do we build a treehouse? To have a vantage point to look upon your (obviously inferior) neighbours?

imo you the only other thing you can compare all of minecraft and it's idea's to is life, and that's because all games are representations. Usually of what you or someone wants to be, will be, or are. :laugh.gif: :Pig:

I disagree with you to some extent TheFlyingWombat.
Here are my reasons, using your format.

Exploring: When I explore the randomly generated worlds I get a great feel that I'm going to discover something that is going to improve my knowledge of the world around me. Thinking about what may be around the next block keeps me going until I've explored every inch of the world.

Combat: Although combat is fun to brag about, most people wouldn't care much because there are many factors like hacking, mods, cheating, and other things. Also, they may be so absorbed with what they are doing, they may still be thinking about that. What I enjoy about the combat is that I have to work to get what I need. A game isn't a game unless it connects with you, and I get a genuine sense of fear from exploring the world I thought I knew at night that is filled with all kinds of monsters. What I would fear the most is losing my hard earned items.

Architecture: Architecture is a very important thing in Minecraft. The reason it is so important is because it is Minecraft, and is the reason it is even known as well as it is. Minecraft tests the brain by seeing what it can do with this, this, and that, and with a combination of earning you're own things it can keep you occupied getting materials so you can think about what to build. Afterwards you get a great feeling of accomplishment while marveling at your creation and knowing that you literally made something from scratch. (Although I said literally, I meant besides the world and the objects and those standard things.)

Farming: Farming is the reason I love games like Harvest Moon. I'm glad they added it into Minecraft because it is another thing that you find exciting because it connects to real life. Watching your plants grow is nice, but also very timely. Afterwards, it feels really nice when you can get those plants and use them for whatever you want. I think that is all I have it say about Farming. I wish I could only put it into words though, because I know I feel deeper than that about it. I would be able to explain better if there were many more plants in Minecraft. Its the mystery of growing plants that makes Farming exciting. It is even educational, as it tests your responsibility and care for the plants, because they need un frozen water, no snow pouring over them, and you can't rub your dirty feet all over them without them disappearing. (not just in Minecraft).

Crafting: I HIGHLY disagree with what you said about this. Crafting is also another reason that Minecraft is so big. You get your hard earned materials, but how do you get green wool? You dye it. Crafting is going more in depth. Crafting helps you get what you need, but made by man. As early man, we didn't just find furnaces and cake lying out in the dirt. We made those things, from our own imagination. That is why Crafting is so important though, it tests your brain. By giving you the materials, Minecraft asks you what you want to do with them. The possibilities will seem to endless, and when you create something useful, or discover something, it feels really good to use that in your buildings, or even just to survive.

Potions: Alchemy will be a very nice touch to Minecraft, but it falls into the crafting subject. Using this and this to make that will be fun, but Alchemy is a bit different because it's a more in depth version of crafting that isn't exactly obvious, and it will most likely be more fun than crafting in some cases.

Sorry for having such a formal response, but I was extremely surprised on what you said about crafting that I had to reply.

All in all, Minecraft is played because it tests your imagination and can possibly be a game that will literally never be boring, or be extremely addictive. Architecture is the most "infite" part of Minecraft though, because all it needs is a little crafting. X+Y=Z, Z+imagination= Creation :iapprove:
