    So the shaders and Optifine still don't work together. I've tried installing the shaders with the INSTALLER.exe file, that didn't make a difference. And within the Setup window for the Magic Launcher, after installing the shaders, the status of Optifine is "1 errors," which I'm assuming is normal (?).


    Hmm...try again, but this time don't use the Magic Launcher. I've never used that myself and I'm not experiencing any problems, so perhaps that's where your issue lies.

    Try installing first Optifine, then these shaders. That's what I do and it always works.

    I just have one question. Does these shaders work with this graphics card? ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series


    My old laptop only had an ATI Radeon HD 4570, but was able to run this mod with FPS usually in the 20-30 range on normal/far. It seems that it's actually the higher end computers that suffer the most drastic reduction in performance percentage-wise (although overall their performance is obviously still likely to be higher than that of older computers, ie. a high end computer might drop from 200 FPS to 50 FPS whereas an older computer may only go from 40 FPS to 20 FPS).

    Mine, Yrael, spawned me on the intersection of a jungle, a desert and a volcano (quite literally, actually - it's a big stone mountain with a crater on the top, with some lava).

    Not bad!

    Edit: Oh wow, there's a pretty cool natural cave in this jungle, with a stream running through it:



    At first glance it doesn't seem to lead anywhere, but if you dig straight down at the very end of the passage you'll hit an enormous cave system, complete with mineshafts.

    I do think that Minecraft could definitely stand to be optimised (why isn't Optifine an official part of MC yet, like Scaevolus' old region mod?), but I haven't noticed a significant performance hit in 1.2.2 in particular. As others have said though, the main factors at work are your video card, processor and RAM - especially your video card.

    I tried generating a seed with a mushroom island in the new 1.2 update that Jeb released just moments ago - it seems that the giant mushrooms still don't spawn, which is a little problematic.

    Also, are birch trees still missing?

    You'll spawn on a tiny island with a single bush:



    Directly across from you is a giant mushroom island (without giant mushrooms, unfortunately, since this is a bug in 12w08a - hopefully it'll be fixed in 1.2) fixed in 1.2.3!:

    It seems dungeons aren't appearing either - I loaded up a particular seed in this latest snapshot, and a surface dungeon that I knew ought to have been present (from testing the same seed in a different version of Minecraft) no longer spawned.
