    I think this is a good idea. Maybe there could be some more good and evil creatures added with this (Such as angels, demons, a God, a devil.)

    It's mine, it's basically trying to make caves a bit less boring. Mobs are entertaining, but once they're gone and your cave is lit, it's boring as hell to have to look for stuff. Thus, this idea was born.

    Textures AND modding IN PROGRESS

    As it is, caves are EXTREMELY boring, and it's easy to get lost while exploring the more massive cave systems. I'm sure I'm not the first one who's thought of this, but why isn't there already a cave life mod? One that creates caves that may or may not be similar to real ones? For example, in real caves, there are glow worms and stuff. Just think, that would open up a whole new list of items you could collect, and on top of it all, if there would be different types of rock (i.e. limestone) and other types of rock in large quantities deep in caves, it'd make it easier to tell which part of the cave you're in.

    All I want to do is collaborate with other Minecraft users, and hopefully get a mod maker's attention. Not all of us have computer smarts that are up to the level of making mods (or the art skills to make good ones), so all I want to do is make an idea readily available to the mod makers that might see this and want to do it.

    All I ask is that you give me a little credit for my idea, and that's it. I don't want money or anything else if anyone uses this, just give me credit once you post the mod, please.

    Basically, what I'm thinking of is an addition of:

    New Species available with the mod, such as ones that exist in actual life (lizards, frogs, glow-worms, and whatnot) and a few spun entirely from imagination, such as a pink monster with two heads and a furry body. I'm not going to be too specific about that.

    New Plants available, a few unrealistic (i.e. ones that glow, glowing mushrooms, on the inside of the cave) and a few realistic (plants that tend to gather around the entrance of a cave, tree roots inside the cave.) to help make things more interesting, and also make it easier to tell where you've been.

    Cave Lakes available. This may seem like an un-needed feature, (one that might get in the way) but as with most mods, you can disable and enable a lot of features, so if a modder makes this it's likely you'll be able to disable it. The reason I think cave lakes would be a nice addition to this [possibly future] mod, is because it would be the place where you'd find a limestone cave/limestone formations, and that would make it a lot easier to tell where you are in a cave at any given moment.

    New Rock This may take a while. What I'm asking for is the addition of a few new types of rock (Limestone, a rock that's not colored like stone, and marble) and an addition of underground landforms that are formed by these. (i.e. limestone formations)
    - Limestone formations seem to be a good idea, (they'd be found close to cave lakes) and as mentioned above, they'd help guide you to where you need to be going.

    New Items! As many of us know, new items are always a perk with a new mod. This would be just another perk to the (again, possibly future) mod, and although not necessary, very fun. New items would help bring the excitement back to caves, and possibly push people to explore themselves instead of always using INVedit.

    PLEASE also spread the word if you like it, I'd love to see more collaboration on this.

    Specifics!
    This is for anyone attempting to make the mod, or interested in further specifics.

    :Green: Glow worms:
    - Would spawn deep in caves, away from sunlight or lava sources
    - Are harmless, may drop if run into or hit
    - Can be killed by being stepped on or hit
    - Spawn only on stone or limestone, hang from ceiling
    - Come in four different colours: Red, blue, green, and white.

    Note: None of the below will ever spawn on marble, sand, or sandstone, and none will generate near light sources (such as sunlight or lava)
    --Glowing Mushrooms--
    - These would generally glow a light blue colour, and would be found on soil or rocks away from sunlight.
    - They vary from regular mushrooms in size, are generally only slightly larger than brown mushrooms, and have a pointed top.
    - can be used to craft Glowing Armour (with Glowing Shroom Dust), which illuminates about 5 blocks around you.
    Glowing Shroom Dust is crafted like so:

    - These spawn on cave rock or dirt as well, and grip to the walls. You can use them as ladders, they glow very slightly green.
    - These drop Glowing Vines, which can be replaced in caves as ladders, or placed outside, in which case they make regular Vines.
    --Glowing Flowers--
    - These will only spawn on stone, and have a vague flower-like shape, but are very curly. They glow the typical light green colour.
    - Can be replaced in dark areas, otherwise won't grow (much like regular Mushrooms)

    Plants:

    Strangle Vine: (courtesy of geesegeese)
    -Strangles players that come too close
    -Plant curls around the prey and squeezes, doing 1 damage per second for 1-5 seconds
    -Drops Strangle-vines, when placed it creates more strangle-vines
    - if placed above ground it will attack mobs, not the player.

    -Would grow on top of smooth stone and spread like grass, although a lot slower (don't want it everywhere, now do we?)
    -Use the shape of fallen snow, where it essentially sits on top of a block
    -(Not sure about possible use) may serve as spawning point for certain cave critters
    -Could possibly convert any placed cobblestone that it spread to into mossy cobble, which would allow an easy way to get that block we all love
    -Finally would add realism and another way to tell location in the caves (may spawn near water?)

    :stone: Limestone/Limestone Formations:
    - Limestone will generate anywhere near water (such as cave rivers / underground lakes) and is collectable, and fairly common (a bit more common than coal.)
    - It can be used to make fertillizer, which is useful on trees as well as crops.

    When :White: = Limestone
    - Limestone formations will only occur in underground lakes.
    - Formations include: Pillars, cones hanging from the wall, limestone pretruding up above the lake surface (upside down cone). It may also coat the walls of an underground lake.

    :Water: Underground lakes:
    - These will generate randomly, and may or may not contain limestone.
    - They have about a 40 block area, on average. They may be smaller or larger.

    - Frogs spawn near cave enterances and very deep in a cave, and will follow you around.
    - only one frog will follow you at any given moment.
    - Frogs come in three different colours: Green (found within 50 blocks of the enterance), Blue (found within 20 blocks of water), and Red (found within 40 blocks of lava.) Albino (found in pitch black, near bedrock)
    - Order of rarity: (from least rare to most rare) Green, Red, Blue, Albino
    --Bats--
    - Have a wingspan of 2 blocks
    - Will attack if you reach within 10 blocks of them (unless you're on peaceful, of course)
    - Will be found in mobs
    - Are found deep in caves near no source of light (unless you light a torch)
    - Can be found at night outside of caves.
    --Snails--
    - Will only come in four colours, brown, black, white and red.
    - All snails spawn randomly (there is no order of rarity) although they all spawn deep in caves and most commonly near places with water.
    - Drop one Slime Ball when killed
    --Crabs--
    - Unlike ones found in other mods, these are generally small (less than a block tall and a block wide)
    - These will only attack if attacked, each attack inflicts about .5 damage.
    - These are found in or near water (most common in underground lakes), and only come in two colours: red (near the surface of the cave enterance) and albino. (deep inside the cave).
    - Drop Crab Meat, which can be cooked or eaten raw. (also crafted into Crab Cakes like this:)

    Where :Bacon: = cooked crab meat
    --Sponges--
    -These are found only in water inside caves or in other dark places. They only come in one colour (yellow), but can be broken to create sponge pieces.
    - The sponge pieces are collectable and can be formed into a block on a crafting table in order to make a sponge block. Sponges do not attack, they are shaped in the way coral usually is.
    - Need 4 sponge pieces on a crafting table to craft a sponge:

    --Snakes--
    - These are mob creatures, they spawn very deep in caves.
    - They are two blocks long, and damage one heart per hit.
    - These creatures are also fast, making them hard to hit. Fortunately, these creatures are on the rarer side of the mob creatures.
    - They drop bones
    --Scorpions--
    - These are also mob creatures.
    - They inflict two hearts per attack, and are commonly found in the desert at night as well as deep in caves.
    - They drop poison, which can be made to use a Poison Tipped Sword. (Poison above a sword on a crafting space)
    - This sword would inflict 1 HP more than the sword you are currently using. (i.e. Diamond, gold, iron, stone or wood.)
    --Cave Fish--
    - These have a general rocky looking appearence, and are caught only in underground caves.
    - When cooked, these heal 6 HP. They are also very rare.
    - Drops Cave Fish meat.
    --Cavemen--
    - Tend to gather in groups, (mob behavior is generally like Zombie Pigmen)
    - Are a mob creature
    - Drop spears (crafted by two sticks in a row and one flint on top)
    - Spears damage 2 HP per hit
    - Cavemen have 'bases' and can interact with their environment.

    - Various normal vines would gather around a cave enterance, as well as purple and black flowers.
    - Purple and black flowers can both be used to make dye, and are both only found near cave enterances.

    :Lava: - Satan and Demons (NOTE: Both are found in the NETHER)
    --Satan--
    - Satan is a mob creature, (So, various satans?) These have an extremely high difficulty. They are three blocks tall, and their attack damages 5 HP per blow.
    - When defeated, Satan will drop fire (like what you see in INVedit)
    - When not in mobs, Satan is found near lava.
    --Demons--
    - Demons will appear anywhere in darkness of caves. They also rarely spawn near lava.
    - Demons are a one-block high flying creature. They are found in mobs.
    - Their attack damages 3 HP. They drop a pitchfork, which can be used as a weapon. (crafted by one stick in the middle and six irons in two rows of three on top)

    Mob info: All mobs spawn underground, and usually at least 20 blocks underneath the surface. A few mobs like Cavemen will spawn higher than that, and Bats will spawn above ground at night.

    -Fossils (as rare as diamonds) and can be anything from a snail to a dinosaur (bigger it is, the rarer it is) can be used as decoration or maybe brought back to life. A different liquid rather than water and lava (Acid, maybe? xD)

    mFrom corinanth:
    -Mole men that are more like npc versions of the player rather than mobs, basic molemen have a diamond pick and the unique ability to break everything except bedrock with one strike. (Pick is not dropped upon death) They also have a mining helmet w/ light (also not dropped). They drop diamonds and gold upon death. They're friendly mobs, although deal 4 damage per hit if provoked, and have a base of operations as well as big tunnels from the base at random. Conflicts between molemen and players could arise when the moleman breaks into your house with an army of creepers. (Not so sure I want this, myself, but hey. There could be an option to turn it off, I suppose.) Molemen will fight all creatures except creepers on sight, and build simple homes for themselves: One room with a window and a torch or two.

    A Cave dweller. Blind monsters that eat all mobs except creepers. they cannot see, but are attracted to footsteps and mob noises. Cave dwellers burn in sunlight.

    -Climb up onto celing and hide in shadows
    -Die in a light level of 12 or higher
    -Has new behavior called 'stalker'. Will hide in shadows and wait until you are directly below them. then, they will jump down and start biting your head.

    -Is a dark blue, purple, and black. has glowing red eyes. (when in the dark, you can see two faint red boxes.)
    the crawlers main feature is to scare the player. having a creature in pitch black jump on your head is scary!

    -Are 1 by 1 by 1 blocks
    -Look like stone blocks with little eyes, and big fanged mouth
    -Waddles quickly
    -Does 1 damage per attack (bite)
    -Does NOT go outside of caves
    -Can disguise itself as a normal block of stone
    the rock munsters (yes, munsters) are somewhat common, and more just for fun.
