NPC villagers are civilized creatures. They can build towers, craft armor, gather food, farm crops, and even summon overpowered servants. So, how come they can’t sp34k?
1) It's "speak", for **** sake.
2) Being civilized =/= not being mute. Poor reasoning for the suggestion.
And no. They shouldn't speak. I agree with ChadGarion25 and that other guy.
So according to your thinking, since there is lava in the Overworld, it shouldn't be in the Nether? Nether - Lava = BORING. Don't take that literally, it was an analogy of how adding things from the Overworld makes the Nether more interesting.
Give me some reasons to explore the Nether after you have found a fortress, (apart from finding glowstone because you have depleted the resources around your portal).
The Nether was DESIGNED to be hellish. Lava = hellish. Villages = not. Analogy invalid.
Mob hunting and resource gathering. Same as anywhere else. You want more? Add something NEW.
@AmberK Yeah, I know it would definitely create a need for an engine overhaul just from the sheer amount of work the game would have to process depending on the structure that demises, and plus punching trees would also be a much riskier business! I guess this would be more of an interesting hypothesis than a seriously legitimate setting. In fact, the only reason this idea even came to me was during the construction of a structure I'm currently working on. I just thought it would be epic to see it topple like a house of cards xD
Once upon a time, there was a plugin that enabled gravity to be switched on and off for sand/gravel. I built a giant sand globe in the sky then switched gravity on. And it was epic to see it crumble.
The rest sounds like a Civilization sort of deal or something. Definitely mod territory (and, if I'm not mistaken, various mods exist to that sort of end).
Will be used for a lot of griefing in multiplayer (note: griefing means destroying people's fun, not only structures), so I don't think this is good.
So people who would have fun with this shouldn't get it because other people might be dicks? Seems to be that sort of logic is just another form of destroying people's fun. This is why admins and mods exist on servers: They deal with griefers.

...Posted a random, completely unneeded change instead of simply waiting for a real idea to come to mind?

Do you know what "cool" means? Random unnecessary change to a recipe doesn't really scream "cool".
It isn't shorter...

Not really. There's still no worthwhile reason for a change.

A 100% pointless change. That's the problem. If you suggest something, it should serve a worthy purpose.

You mean like an entire system of civilization simulation mechanics? Because you asked for that.

Creepers are bombs in the real world? Huh...
And FYI, TNT isn't a bomb. TNT is a chemical compound. And it doesn't look like dynamite in the real world.

Second.

Why...

And who cares about the realism? Most unnecessary idea I have ever seen.
