i'm sorry for the video quality. :sad.gif: also, it was supposed to have music but it got disabled. so... it didnt turn out as great as i wanted. hope you like it anyway.
the weapons/tools we have now could be considered "tier 1", used for the simplest actions and construction. there could be a second tier.
= nothing

this could make "iron rods" like the way you can turn wood planks into wood sticks. it will be for this.
alright, now for the second tier of weapons and tools:
[iron] [iron] [iron]
[iron] [iron]
war hammer - this would be a huge hammer, held in either 1 or 2 hands. it would have the same attack as a sword of the same material, but it would knock an enemy back twice as far.
[iron] [iron]
[iron]
spear - same attack as sword, twice the reach. 1 or 2 handed.
[iron] [iron] [iron]
[iron] [iron] [iron]
[iron] shield - a new slot would have to be made for this. adds a few more slots of armor, takes the offhand slot.
[iron] [iron] [iron]
forging table/anvil - an iron top with stone sides, the perfect block to make these weapons on. a simple wood crafting table would shatter with the force needed to make these.
[iron] [iron] [iron]
[iron]
forging hammer - the tool needed to create these, you'd have to have this in your equipped slot to make the weapons.
i've grown extremely tired of building big boxes of wood and stone lately, and i've been trying to come up with ways to change my architecture. so far i've made a wood building with an arced stone roof, and now i'm working on a crazy huge stone complex with unique windows. what about you guys?
In the distant future, there will be more variation such as different terrain types (desert! swamp! snow!) and settlements (goblin village! abandoned stone tower! dragon lair!)
So.... in notch time, "distant future"...... we'll have this stuff in a few days~ a week!
/me people who started playing after infdev was released
Emerald is equivalent to diamond in all respecs save color. Remember this!
well, these obviously wouldn't be used for strength in tools.. they would either be decorative, or used for magic enchanting. also i suppose i was thinking diablo-2ish when i combined 3 to make the next one. :tongue.gif:
yeah, it would totally be used for enchanting, referencing the alchemy and "magic" topics. but it would also be a good currency, or one of those cases where a villain ransoms a person for a certain amount or something.. i dunno >_>
the reason i have 3 raw gems becoming a pure gem is that not all of the raw gems are fit to become pure.. i'm sure there's a better way to illustrate that. if anyone can come up with a good mockup of a gemcutter's tool to turn raw -> pure gems, then i'd love for them to post it in here. :biggrin.gif:
i think as of now, diamond is acting more as a metal than anything else. other gems should be added (although i'm sure this has been suggested a million times).
the difference is i think they should be more like coal than iron or gold etc. there should be diamonds, which are as rare as they are now, as well as sapphire, ruby, emeralds and maybe others. when a block containing one of these is destroyed, several small "raw" gems should be left behind. these can be put in a furnace, or using some new device to refine the gems and make them pure, and then use them to enhance weapons and armor.
plus it would just feel so awesome going into a cave 1000 feet underground and surfacing with a bag full of shiny gems and gold. :biggrin.gif:
EDIT, now with examples
The block you would come across would be something like this, possibly in a vein by itself, or hidden among an iron or coal vein.
This is emerald obviously >_>
The ores you would get out of these would be:
Diamond
Emerald
Ruby
Sapphire
The blocks would drop 1-3 of these when broken. The reason for there being so many per block is because you need 3 to make a "cut" gem.
possibly have to craft a seperate table or gemcutters tools or something like that.
