posted a message on mojang should join steam
Not all games on Steam are Steam-only, jesus. You people and your irrational arguments. Just think about it for a second - Just like MANY games that are available via multiple services, Minecraft being on Steam wouldn't mean Steam would be REQUIRED to run Minecraft, it would just mean it's available there.

You're not required to run Steam to play a lot of games listed on there. There are plenty of games on Steam like The Witcher 2 or Crusader Kings 2 that are available elsewhere, like GOG.com or Gamersgate, that don't need Steam to run if you don't buy a Steam version.

So it doesn't ****ing matter if you like Steam or not. Minecraft can be listed on there just like many other games and if you don't want to buy the Steam version then just don't buy the Steam version, nobody would be making you buy it via Steam.

Yeah, I play Minecraft exclusively without mods, so I don't really know how the trading systems in those mods work.

You're just ****ing with semantics, there's no difference between an "extreme" hill and a mountain. By calling it "extreme" you're just saying it's an order of magnitude larger than a regular hill, and the game already has hills, but we already have a word for something that's an order of magnitude larger than a regular hill - A MOUNTAIN.

They're exactly the same thing. It's like calling an ocean an "extreme pond" or a desert next to water an "extreme beach".

I believe its because of this tool called amidst that shows you a generated world with all the biomes npc villages and stronghold locations. In there its called extreme hills.

Might not be just that one tool, could be others refer to it aswell. Its just that i noticed it from there ;)

Oh god, I just checked it and you're right. If you hit F3 it actually calls the Mountain biomes "extreme hills"

That is the most retarded crap I've ever seen in Minecraft.

wat. I don't get why occasionally you'll see somebody refer to the mountains/mountain biome as "extreme hills". That's like referring to an ocean as an "extreme pond" or a ravine as an "extreme ditch"

It's just a matter of time before Ovus gets in here and complains about how the iron golems are "griefing" him somehow.

Seriously though did you just not know about the iron golems? They are badass and do a great job defending the villagers.

Minecraft is weird with mods. I only really play vanilla. Hell I don't even use texture packs. Although some of the mods are funny/cool.

Yeah making stuff out of wool is stupid. I always imagine big fluffy buildings. I mean sure it might look the colour you want, but IT'S STILL WOOL.

What I think should happen is, enemies shouldn't be able to open doors, but creepers should explode when they encounter a door. That way its like

    ****ING BAM

and then zombies and skeletons flood through.

It sounds cool to me at least XD

    Quote from KyoShinda

Okay, so you're saying if they don't add the language of every tribe in existence, it would be prejudice?

I never said that. YOU said that. Don't make **** up. You suggested that the game should ONLY be available in english, and that is prejudiced. You said that even knowing the developers themselves want their game to be available in non-english languages. Furthermore, Mojang ARE FROM ****ING SWEDEN. English isn't even their first language!

I know they did add a lot of languages but they didn't for a couple of years, so were they prejudice back then?

Again this is beyond retarded. The game wasn't officially released until a few months ago. Judging an incomplete, pre-release game is absurd in the extreme, especially when we already know features were planned well in advance. By your logic an MMO isn't even an MMO until release.

They should just stick to 5 languages, any more would be a problem, any less would be 'nationalism'.

No, they should stick to however many languages they want to put in. Especially since other people are being commissioned to do the work.

So you're saying it would be prejudice to account for the most common language and not my own? Why should game developers be wasting time on scriptures?

LET'S MAKE THE WHOLE ****ING GAME IN GALACTIC ALPHABET.

Yes, it is prejudiced when your argument is that games should only be available for speakers of one language, especially when the developers of said games go out of their way to ensure their products get translated.

Regardless, THE ****ING DEVELOPERS THEMSELVES made sure that literally dozens of languages got their own translations. It doesn't matter what YOU think, the developers think it's worthwhile and they aren't going to remove the localisations.

There's no reasonable argument you can make here. Localisation is a standard in the gaming industry, even many modders make translations for their mods - even ROM hackers do it for freaking SNES games.

As far as your galactic alphabet thing goes, it really just makes you look even more stupid to say such a thing sarcastically given Mojang went out of their way to include "Pirate" as a joke language option.

In that case, I say they make a tally of which language is the most popular among all the Minecraft users. If it is still Arabic, then they should make that the only MC language then work on gameplay instead of opening a can of worms.

This is stupid. Language localisation has been a standard part of the gaming industry since at least the early 90s. To say that it should only be available in one language just because you have some sort of prejudice when the developers themselves fully support localisation is insane.

To be honest, I love Minecraft and the more people who can play it, the better.

Agreed. Mojang does not make these translations, the community does. Mojang is too busy with a little something called "game development". Just an honest question, though: Is there anyplace in the world where they have Internet but cannot speak English? The vast majority of the Internet is in English and Minecraft has been in English since the start. If people have been playing this long without understanding any of the English in the game, I will be very impressed.

Typical ignorance. 8 out of the top 10 countries that contribute the most users to the internet happen to be non-english speaking countries. This includes countries like China, which has more than 450,000,000 internet users, to other countries like India with almost 90 million, France, Russia, Germany, and others.

    http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm

Actually, more than a third of the entire planet's population access the internet regularly. That you seem to think it is only the english-speaking world that has regular access to the internet really shows how little you know about the world outside of your country, let alone the fact that you think that "the vast majority of the internet is in English", which simply isn't true. ICANN even allows domains that use non-english characters now.
