I took down some trees for a build and now there are big black patches in the grass despite there being nothing above to cast the shadows. Note that I am using the Natural pack if that is causing anything. Is anyone else having this issue?

Since I was doing a faux hardcore mode, and I don't want to say I just quit it, let's just say he died of famine due to mining without sleep for a good MC half-month straight.
There are a lot of islands around, so it isn't really an ocean biome. I did some exploration and I found another grass island (about a chunk in size) about 100 blocks away from me diagonally that STILL had no passive mobs on it. Also, the mushroom islands are quite large, so there's no reason for mooshrooms not to spawn :\
I am about to be seriously boned here. I started a "Survival Island" game that has one island of green grass and all the rest (3 can be seen from spawn) are Shroom biome. My problem is that not a single passive mob other than squid is spawning. There aren't any wolves (I already looked into that), and my island is at least 2 chunks in size. Help!!!
I'm doing a survival island seed and by, essentially, strip mining from one end of the map to the other, I found 4 ravines and an abandoned mineshaft with a mob spawner inside. I actually found a chest within 20 blocks or so down from the surface containing 2 diamonds. Also, I found lots of bread, as well as punkin and melon seeds.

near (150, 250), there is a 1x1 hole in the river. dig straight down in this spot until you hit a water source block and enter the cave system. turn left and there's a Skeleton mob spawner in a nearby room. dig straight down again in the back left corner of the room until you reach the lava room. If you look across the lava, you can see part of the stronghold. Go to it, but not it. Looking left, you'll see diamonds! After you get them, go directly opposite of them, up into the cave branch, and follow it, going left at the obvious fork. follow the cave branch until you reach the actual stronghold! LIBRARY AND END PORTAL BOTH CONFIRMED INSIDE.
IF this gets a lot of replies and views, I'll give info on more of the map, including the Nether!
I want to know the secrets in the Tutorial world. and I mean the REAL secrets. No "hidden chest", "gravel X" or "hidden room" allowed in here. Gimme some SUPER cool secret stuff on that world. Also, clay locations.

ALSO. Throwing your eye of enders is extremely accurate, getting you within a few blocks of the portal if you just keep digging straight down.
