Apple trees are the only plant which spawns in a Xie's farming only instance of minecraft I made to test why it wasn't spawning anything. Forge 534

Edit: For those having issues with spawning plants, crops, trees and bushes. I switched to the older version from this google code repository and have no issues with spawns anymore. Its not a great solution but the content seems to be the same minus new textures and organization.

IP bans are bad and unnecessary on quite a number of levels.

We already take a thorough route on alt accounts but quite frankly banning people from posting because they ask mods to update is not a good idea. Firstly we don't ban people for it. As I said with the first warning we have very, very few repeat offenders which shows that the warnings work with a margin of error with people not understanding the warning or just ignoring it.

Forgive me if this sounds stupid but are you the same person who posted 45 minutes ago? You seem to be taking an entirely opposite viewpoint from your earlier post where the means were not working and now suddenly they are o.6 This is a bit confusing.

Also, I think it is a good idea but the bans are only for repeat offenders the first timers would just get the 7 day thing which would give them incentive to not do it again since it would be part of the rules and even if they hadn't read them that isn't your fault is it? As for Ip bans I think they would sometimes be necessary but if you've got that covered so be it.

This has, very sadly, always been a big problem. :(

From the time I started the coined Update Spam in M&M has been very prevalent. We've tried warnings, stickies etc. Little to no effect because it's very often very fresh accounts that post those things. Very, very few are repeat offenders.

That is because warnings and stickies can very easily be ignored. Whereas not being able to use the forum to act out this kind of behavior does send a powerful 'oh no you don't' message to the users involved. Also, I would look into trying to IP ban from forums rather than just user accounts because that would be a more potent style of ban. This would also bring who is ban evading into a more clear light and let you ban those people a lot more thoroughly without much cause for concern. Even in cases of the suspended accounts users won't learn but if you make it very clear that it just flat out won't be tolerated I think you'll find the users will either cease to be or figure it out very quickly once they realize you're actually seriously not giving them more than one chance to get it right. To me, the people who would snap back into 'oh, well i had better not do that again' are the ones I'd welcome to the forum and those who keep needing chances should just read threads without posting them. Keep in mind if they had something major to post that was important to them they'd ask their friends to do it for them since presumably they know at least one person who isn't going to get banned.

Yeah, but with those locking really isn't a problem... the whole thread is redundant, there's nothing really of value there.

True, redundant threads should just be deleted but that goes for all redundant threads really as they're redundant. With the mod update spam you have to take a more precise aim at individuals and deal with them in a way that prevents and deters others from future offense. It won't be an overnight success but it will work in the long run.

Ah, I thought you were talking about a different kind of update spam (redundant posts related to Minecraft updates). Ignore me.

Well, the two are one in the same from my point of view.

The Pocket Edition section moderators have been wonderful about locking that garbage with extreme prejudice. It does seem to make a difference over time. It used to be a huge problem there, not quite as much anymore. Sure, there will be more traffic in PC, but there are also more active moderators to clean it up.

Locking is a double edged sword, it punishes the thread creator as well as the offending person. I think focus on the individuals would take more time but produce better results as a whole.

I also felt this was worth noting as I heard it directly from one of the authors who take the time to contribute to the modding community. From my point of view this is more harsh than a 30 day ban so 7 is a breeze.

Minecraft mod author: "In all seriousness, I sit down, all excited to work on it, then I read the comments of people annoyed that it's not released yet... and simply lose my drive to work on it. "

It would only be a hassle until you managed to overcome the number of users causing the problems. It may seem harsh but the alternative I find much more harsh on the players and authors who get hard done by with these people who thoughtlessly add who knows how many threads and posts that are utterly useless. I mean think about it, if you were an author who was looking for feedback and this was the majority of what you got in return for who knows how many dozens of hours coding would you continue happily?
    Quote from ThePilotGuy

    This wouldn't work.

Chances are, the threads are made by newer users and/or those without infractions. Starting them off with a 7day suspension will just get the user to leave altogether instead of learning from their mistake and refraining from creating the threads again.

I could understand a more strict punishment for doing it twice, but a 7day is still too far in my opinion.

To me, I think this would send a strong message that you're not fooling around and would hopefully deter other users from doing the same thing by being information that user might pass on to others who may have done the same thing. It seems too far I agree but at the moment there is little to no respect for that rule. A player who signs up a new account just to ask about an update is someone we want here? Sure give them a chance to learn but make it a tough enough lesson that they either do leave but understand fully the reason they choose to or learn themselves and become a valuable member of the community.

I understand that update spam is against the forum rules but, I see so much if it that this rule is clearly very ignored by many ignorant users who don't read the rules before posting. I think something more strict could remedy this problem with a relative amount of ease and would improve the quality of posts within the forum threads that are plagued by them.

1st report - 7 day restriction from posting
2nd report - ban from forums

A player who doesn't understand that the reason he can no longer post for 7 days will not contribute to the forum in any useful manner in future is my opinion. They can read the forum freely without logging in so its not all bad news. They just can't spam the forums anymore which from my point of view is a loss which will make the forums a more healthy place to post and gather information.

Yes, exactly like that. (ie. you find or grow ginger for the first time and check your book to find a section of the book dedicated to ginger with an image of its product, the plant, and recipe that use ginger with maybe a shadow for things you haven't discovered yet if they are included in that recipe) You'd open the book initially and see a set number of blank entries, as you hadn't found anything yet and slowly fill up the book until you are making anything you like. I typically use NEI to find crafting recipe but I thought it might be more fun to have mods create their own internal information database for what their mods do rather than rely on wiki or NEI's several dozen pages of items/search.

Maybe at some point those books could be part of a shelf in a library that you visit when you want to know how "x" is made. You'd just grab harvestcraft or red power's book from the shelf which may be quite large depending on how many mods you have and flip through until you find what you're after using its table of contents. I think tropicraft has something similar to what I'm talking about as well.

HarvestCraft has always had a mostly up-to-date Google spreadsheet of recipes available.

Yes, but i'm talking about an ingame book item you can reference as you play, explore, cook.

Harvestcraft could benefit from a cookbook / encyclopedia of food. As you found ingredients, entries would update in the book and recipe would appear in some orderly and organized cookbookish fashion. Not like achievement updates but a proper cookbook. Just a thought.

Also, if it works the same as it did in the 1.2.5 version lime trees won't spawn naturally due to the red value which all of the other trees have 0 for.

    "rarity": 15,
    "spawnson": "dirt,grass",
    "spawnsin": 18,

    Just a thought.

It creates Counterfeit money that has a 50% chance of success with sal and wherever else its used. If Sal catches you he chases you down with a rocket launcher because if there is anything sal hates more than getting ripped off its getting ripped off when he thought he was getting paid.

posted a message on What do you do when?
    My Question:
I searched google for links to forum posts about what to do in the event that your account was stolen. Mine hasn't been stolen that I know of but I want to know what I can do in case it becomes compromised. I also think a sticky of what players should do when they have their accounts taken from them and counter-measures for it should be put in place.

ie. recovery password options, proof of ownership options, etc

    My Suggestion
I think a good way to absolutely prove you are the one you claim to be would be to enter your payment information into a form on the Minecraft website and have that forcefully alter your pw and maybe use the payment info to assign permanent IP addresses to a white-list of ones you will play the game from if you want to for added protection (keep this optional)

You could even go a step further and blacklist any IP who tries to use an account whose IP are white-listed to "Thwart hackers!" as you have on that to-do list.

Note: It is vital to match the account info to the record of the initial purchase though.

posted a message on Monster Attributes
Perhaps instead of asking for specific monsters we should list unique attributes that a monster could have and let them run with it if they enjoy it. For instance the current monsters can only walk, shoot arrows, shoot fireballs, explode, group attack. We could expand on these ideas or attributes which could be given to any new or existing monsters as they see fit.

    Attribute Ideas:

    Flying
    - Not much to say about this one its just something they could do and perhaps swoop down and carry you up into the sky dropping you to certain death

    Crawling along walls and ceiling
    - Insects and lizard like things can sometimes have the ability to climb walls or move across the ceiling which would make them harder to keep out with a mere wall in place

    Tunneling
    - We don't want a monster that can tunnel through anything but materials like sand gravel clay dirt would be fine they could even build lairs and carry back discarded items

    Building nests
    - Nests could grow in size depending on how many days they're left alone If a nest reaches X size it could also produce larger versions of said monsters with higher HP and Defense

    Merging under conditions
    - Slime types of monsters could if they meet certain conditions merge into a larger version of the same monster with 2x hp and increased size

    Transform
    - something by day another thing by night or if seasons are implemented during certain times of the year or within certain biomes like how a butterfly would be a caterpillar and form a chrysalis then become a butterfly

    Using other Mobs
    - like how skeletons can sometimes be spawned riding spiders maybe instead of a spawn it could be something they sometimes want to do perhaps other types of mobs could make use of different monsters for different reasons (ie, giants tossing creepers like grenades)

    Traps
    - Spiders could lay webs that would stop a player from jumping or moving until the web was broken or cut through monsters may dig pitfalls that once fallen into give the monster a chance to leap in and finish the job

    Use player made equipment
    - Lets say X monster kills you somehow while you're wearing diamond armor why not let him steal it for himself and to get it back you've got to defeat him while he's wearing your stuff give them a monster inventory perhaps

    Swim
    - Ideally through water but it would also be fun to see a monster swimming through lava and enjoying himself before trying to kill us

    Amorphous Solids
    - those nicely designed traps used to kill monsters won't work on those with this attribute because though it might be a 3x3 block of annoying goo it can slip between a 1x1 hole with ease due to its ability to move around like water with a will of its own maybe more like sludge

    Surface Tension
    - some monsters may be able to walk across the surface of the water due to being small and light weight or achieving some level of speed to cross water with

    Bad idea to do ____
    - certain monsters may posses attributes that if you try to kill them using X method baaad things could happen similar to what occurs with slimes ie. if I set monster C on fire he becomes 2 monsters if I try to blow x monster up he gets really angry and can move much faster during it for a limited time probably changing color too to show him angry

    Invulnerable places
    - if say you were attacking a clam for instance but you either missed and hit his shell or whatever he'd close it during your attack until you stopped for a certain amount of time being like bedrock aka (none for you)

    Poison
    - monsters could posses venom which will eat your flesh until cured or for a certain amount of time also poison arrows would be fun from monsters using ground up remains of said monster could make your own

    Giant monsters
    - I've seen this in a test vid notch had done with zombies which is fine but give them attributes of the giant monsters like plucking a tree out of the ground and chasing players with it or throwing it into the side of a mountain like a lawn dart tossing rather large bits of ground or boulders etc

    Electricity
    - like an electric eel has current running through its body

    Nucleus
    - the core of a monster that no matter what else you attack it won't do any good until you destroy this part and can maybe form bits of the landscape onto itself to protect its nucleus like dirt leaves wood sticks clay etc

    Camouflage
    - allows it to blend in with its surroundings so it can sneak up on you better

Eat to grow or restore HP
    - a monster is roaming through the forest and comes across a pig YUM! *grows a little bit as the mass of the pig heals it and increases its size*

    Reproduction
    - perhaps letting some lay eggs that will hatch into smaller versions of said monster and grow to full size after a day or two

    Normal Things as Monsters
    - you go out looking for a nice tree to chop and get some wood swing your axe to suddenly have the tree turn around and glare at you angrily then chasing you across the landscape
