Not sure if this has been suggested but I had an idea that would be pretty sweet to see; pallets, you know the little wood things you stack stuff on and pick up with a forklift?
Something for temporary storage, place some blocks on top of it or when and if rope gets put in, something like an elevator, attach ropes to the pallet then to a pulley system, hit a lever and watch it hoisted up to the top of your mine shaft.
I'm just saying what my research is showing. I dug a 10x10x10 hole, filled it with (Element of choice) then put TNT on top of it, 1 level down, or in the center of it. It has consistently been 7x7x7 with sand, dirt, and gravel. Sometimes a little bigger or smaller.
So, it seems like to get the biggest bang for your buck, it's best to bury TNT just a few blocks into granite covered by dirt or gravel, like a hillside. Cool beans, that's exactly what I'm planning to use it for. (That and blowing up walls which might lead into lava pools, I just ran into that situation this morning.)
Meh, was building a 'hanging' house that was about sky limit, accidentally dug on the wrong block, and dug right below me(-1) and fell straight to my death, and to top it off, was a long way from spawn, no beacon, and had 15 diamonds on me >.<
I get it, but...only 27 blocks? 3x3? That doesn't seem like very much at all. I could mine that out by hand in less than half a minute.
Is TNT really that underpowered?
If i don't cover it up it usually produces a larger blast, I think the cover contains most of it but I have found if I place it out in the open, the blast is much greater
I believe there is a limit on mobs, try running around or kill some in the caverns then light them up so they don't respawn there and your back to square one!
Easy way I have found to control a blast, it always leaves a room in a perfect cube;
So if we are looking straight at the wall,
Hold down your dig button until you can't reach anymore, you should have dug 3 blocks so your wall should look like this
[]
Now place angle so you can hit the last hole and place tnt, select something like cobblestone, hit the tnt and place the stone on the block infront of the tnt
[]
Should look something like that, that is looking straight at it, no top view or side
