posted a message on [Collection] Mithey's Maps ~ Terra Restore and More!
I haven't posted here in a very, very long time. Your map Terra Restore has changed that. I'm seriously impressed and kinda in awe at your map. I pretty much binged the thing in about 4 days, nonstop, and it was fun the whole way through.

The map itself is very pretty, and I personally love that it changes up how a good CTM map looks and feels - As opposed to constantly being in a cave that you can hardly dig through, you can traverse the place (And skip quite a bit, if you're lame), but that's the beauty of it. You play it how you want to play it, and it's a blast all the way through (Save for tiny vindaloo or whatever his name is, I'll get to him in a bit.) All of the environments are unique, there doesn't seem to be any repetition in appearance at all, and the themes are all fantastic for each area.

One thing that really struck me was the difficulty curve. Most CTM maps start out with you frustrated as all hell with minimal resources and just getting steamrolled by basic monsters. This particular map found a balance very quickly, and it's an incredibly good one. There wasn't any one area that had me stuck, each of them had a consistent challenge with better gear, and tougher monsters, but I never got so frustrated that I had to get up and take a break - If you have trouble, all it takes is just looking at it from a different angle. There were only two occasions that I got frustrated and had to try a different area, or just plain cheese it to move on. And that was Tiny Vindaloo, and the final area (The initial mountain climb). Tiny vindaloo is challenging, but I absolutely despise skeletons. Tiny zombies with a flame II or III bow shooting at you the whole time, it was near impossible to get close without getting slammed and having to kite for a minute and a half to recover to take two more swings and a lot more damage again. The only way I managed to beat him was by ignoring him after a while and moving on to the third intersection (Which I feel the boss there was much more tolerable than vindaloo. I dunno, Vindaloo just combines two of the things I despise about monsters. Baby zombies and skeletons.), and getting the celestial bow. I couldn't take him on any other way. Then again, I was playing solo with normal mode on. I don't know if that fight was intended for multiple combatants. Then there's the mountain climb. Oh dear sweet baby jesus, those skeletons with punch II. I think I got shot off into the void at least 8 times. Couldn't kill the spawners with swarmers getting after me once I killed all the skeletons. I just had to pillar my way up and cheese the whole thing. The inside of the mountain was doable, but that climb... Ugh.

That being said, the vast majority of the map's experience was very enjoyable, and if you haven't played a good map with good redstone mechanics, or good command block usage, you need to download this now. The kind of stuff you did with command blocks and redstone was absolutely incredible, I didn't even think you could script boss fights or do any of that before. Just completely stunning. The terra restoration mechanic was really cool - Lots of Dark Cloud influence there, and that was easily one of my favorite games from my childhood, so huge points on that. I was a bit disappointed with the later restorations, though. The rewards granted are awesome, though (That enchanted hoe, I used that thing up until intersection III. Sooo useful!) I do wish there were more artifact items, though, like the hoe, that were unlocked with the terra restorations. I didn't see too much else beyond completion to restoring the land, since most of the items you get, you generally find a lot of in the previous area you found the restore in. Having the ender chests next to where you find the terra restores were REALLY nice, though. I was never horribly stressed out, thinking that I could lose it within a second of looting it, I really liked that addition.

The monsters were plenty of fun to tear through, the only real complaint I have are whatever skeletons that got punch bows. It felt like a cheap death when ganged up by two skeletons shooting once at a time until you fly off the cliff behind you, or get shot to death if you run out of arrows. But that's always a complaint I have. I just hate skeletons.

The home base was a great mechanic, with options you can expand on. I do feel that some of the costs got a bit absurd, but it worked. The only recommendation I would have, is to have higher tier elements to upgrade your base with for future upgrades, and having the rest of them be a bit more common so there's a better progression, as well as a deterrent to building a grinder early on and getting all the upgrades early and burning through most of the map until the later parts.

The enhanced potion times were an absolutely godsend. I almost never carry potions around since you have to burn up inventory slots to keep them on hand, but when they last for 10 minutes at a time, it feels much more worthwhile to keep them around.

The boss fights are incredibly engaging, and challenging. It felt good to not have to worry about losing all my crap and starting the fight by grabbing as much of my previous loot as I can. I already griped about Vindaloo, but the other bosses were fantastic. They were a reasonable challenge, and I had to give it a few shots on each to be able to succeed. Another minor gripe was dealing with Exiel the first time. Even though I was smacking him the whole time, I managed to get it to where he's zapping me with lightning the whole time, which was... Not really fun. Had to switch most of the bosses to easy mode to manage them solo. I might've been just unprepared, but it's what I had to do. Boss enrage timers weren't too fun in WoW, and they aren't terribly fun anywhere else. But I digress.

And I guess one more little bit I really liked were how subtle a lot of the references in the map were, and they were from all over the place.

All in all, this one is a favorite right away. I can see myself playing through this a second or third time, and trying to get some friends to tag along the next time. I know this came out recently, but I just can't wait to see more from you.

    posted a message on Liquor'd Let's Play - Vech's Nightmare Realm
Hello, I've been playing through a ton of very difficult minecraft maps, finding that while many of them challenge me sometimes with stupidly large numbers of monsters, they're a tad too easy for me. So, I've come up with a solution.

The Liquor'd Let's play is where I'll be playing through an already difficult map with a twist - I will start the game after drinking some liquor (Captain Morgan, to be exact) and with each death, I will drink a little more to increase the challenge. Hilarity ensues.

If you enjoy the series, the rest of the episodes will be uploaded to my channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/razormage123 - it's a good idea to subscribe so you can get an update the second I release a new video, as I might be a tad slow with updating this thread with any new videos.

Comments and criticism would be greatly appreciated, and I hope you enjoy watching these as much as I did making them!

posted a message on [REQ]2D Beta map editor?
I realize there are a few 3d editors out there right now, and while they work great for seeing exactly what you're doing, they feel a little limited in a way. Which is why I'm asking if anyone would happen to be working on, or knows where to find a 2D map editor for MC 3.1. I dunno why, but there was a certain charm to working in 2D and was much easier to manipulate when making anything particularily complex. That and you could build something in the middle of the air without having to have it connected to something. There were just various tools that can't be done either easily or at all using 3d, so if anyone out there has a 2D editor that works with the current version of Beta or is working on something, I'd appreciate a response.

You're pretty damn lame, you know. If you've got a problem, don't inflict it on us and act as if we're the fools. Just shut up and leave it alone. Don't 1 up one game through another.

posted a message on A reason against infinite MP maps.
thought I should point this out, but I don't think anyone that buys the game is going to run around online afterwards and **** with the whole world, without reprecussions. People aren't stupid, especially those who run servers. They can ban IP's without much effort if they feel it's necessary. And then there's the fact that Notch is doing a LOT of work to protect against hacking. I don't see why people feel the need to panic over it, honestly. Because then even if they're speedhacking, you can go up and beat the **** outta them with a sword, speedhack solved.

I think people worry too much. I don't honestly think griefers will buy the game just so they can **** around in survival - they'll go somewhere where they can do it without any cost to them.

Quickedit : Woah. Just read through the drama. This thread needs some locking... Too many people taking this personally, even when it's hypothetical.

posted a message on Reed Farming & Increased animal spawns
I think making a farm is so... unimaginative with bamboo. It grows virtually anywhere, so why not make it look good in your base, while farmable at the same time? I have that with one of my maps, however, I'm not on the right computer, so no pics = not real. D:

And yes. Animals LOVE spawning near reeds. I had to throw doors all over the place to keep them running around my bonsai-tree fort.

what does it matter? Just call it as it is. Doesn't have to be logical or realistic. If it looks like bamboo, then dammit, it's bamboo. Sit down and drink your @*#$& tea.

No amount of screwing around and bashing each other on what it's called will get you anywhere. It just earns you jerk points. And nobody likes anyone showing off their jerk points.
