posted a message on Windows xp: The end of the line

    reactos is looking good.

No it is not an OS that is meant for usage for anyone but developers. If you want windows nothing but windows is going to provide you with what you want.

Linux is not a windows alternative in the same way a truck is not an alternative to a sedan. They both are similar and can be used similarly however a person who wants a truck will not be properly satisfied by a sedan.

We still have Winxp machines where I work and we have no plans to replace them within the next 5 years as there is no operating system that can properly replace it. This is no fault of Microsoft we don't have the money to replace the equipment that only has drivers for WinXP. I feel this is a massive problem for a lot of people that will be hanging onto Windows XP.

I noticed that your GPU is.. a bit crooked why is that?

Really not a concern it has been setting like that for 3-4 years at this point granted not always in this motherboard. I could easily bolt or glue a small piece of metal to the HDD cage and have it hold up the GPU. It is a 6970 a large and pretty damn heavy GPU.

    What the...
    18C on the CPU?

    what is your ambient temperature?

It is about 10C in my room at the moment. Housing here is expensive so I live in a garage with no heater currently.

I also have a larger air cooler on the CPU.

Pretty much what I would expect except for the motherboard, not warm enough to be of concern by any stretch of the imagination.

    posted a message on Sooooo....Titan Z.
Then soon Nvidia will release the Titan GT, then in a few years a much shorter refresh of the Titan will come out called the Titan Z Kai.

This is all crazy Nvidia needs to focus on actually being capable of competing on the lower end with AMD if they want to actually make money.

The biggest change is Lamdba expressions and that is something a lot of devs have been asking for a while. Here is an FAQ if you want to learn more.
    http://www.lambdafaq...-added-to-java/

The benefits are almost all dev side with this Java update there is no big performance increase nor should you expect them from every release.

    Release list here.

posted a message on windows 8.1 = increased performance?
It can make a dramatic difference in AMD APUs. AMD claims they worked with Microsoft to improve performance and things, not sure what they did exactly what little I have investigated it seems like Microsoft was just shown how to finally schedule programs on Piledriver based processors.

Some personal benchmarks show a solid performance increase in Minecraft.
    http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2076648-ubuntulaptop-benchmarking/page__hl__ ubuntu#entry26531200

Also have an article on it here with no benchmarking.

posted a message on How many physical cores does an Fx 8320 Cpu have?
It has 8 physical cores the reason some people make the mistake of claiming it is a quad core is due to the ability for each module within it to share a Floating Point Unit. It has 8 128bit FPU in normal operation however if running a 256bit FPU instruction such as AVX the FPU have the ability to be shared between cores allowing for what is basically 4 256bit FPU. The cores also share L1 and L2 cache on a module basis along with some other front end components. The CPU has 4 modules with 2 cores in each. This picture shows basically what it looks like.

posted a message on Building a Server for Modded Minecraft, spec review?
Also worth mentioning pretty much all ISPs have in their home connection contract that you can't run servers on the network. They could cut off your internet for breach of contract or require you buy their business plan that is much more expensive.

Rent one from a quality hosting company.

posted a message on What do YOU expect from the Samsung Galaxy S5? (LIVESTREAM OVER!)
Maybe Samsung can actually make a phone with decent software. Of course they could just put stock Android on rather then crapwiz.

The way Samsung is going my S4 is my first and last Galaxy S device. Motorola nearly drew me in with the Moto X if not for a few small problems I had I would have gotten that instead of my S4. Looking at the way Android is moving and Samsung in general I am expecting a larger device with no SD card slot.

I would like either a better shape or small phone, soft touch plastic like the DroidX or like my Thinkpad has. Better audio button placement. Sprint Spark support is easily going to be on my next device. Though short of massive improvement I am not looking for a new device any time soon.

posted a message on Why is linux so bad for gaming?
    Quote from BC_Programming

The suggestion that Nvidia or any other company should play nicely with Open Source is based on nothing more than a feeling of entitlement.

Well or based on the idea that companies have a social responsibility and because they can benefit from society as a whole they should put software back into society. GNUs opinion of software is really no different then any of the far left liberals. Would not cal it an entitlement feeling just different views on society. Even if you disagree with that no reason the community can't dislike a company for not providing software in a way they want. They as consumers can pick a company that does such as Intel or AMD.

Additionally, with a GPU you will need to use either the proprietary graphics drivers, the Open Source graphics drivers- or, if you aren't awre of either, you'll use neither and end up using MESA, which is software rendered OpenGL. If you install Linux and run Minecraft (for example) your GPU is not being used unless you install your graphics drivers.

Graphics card companies aren't really plussed to create those proprietary drivers. They are universally panned by die-hard software freedomites, who between sips of their coke will tip their fedora as their mother yells down to the basement that dinner is ready. NVidia's driver software is actually usable- unlike ATI's, and yet you have people like Linux giving them, in public, the middle finger for having the audacity to not provide free, detailed hardware specifications on their graphics cards.

Mesa has an implementation for software rendering but it is just an implementation of OpenGL api. Open Source drivers that use Mesa as their OpenGL implementation are using hardware rendering.

On the second part AMD provides a closer to spec OpenGL solution on Linux compared to Nvidia. Though does not excuse some of the many other problems. AMD actually provides assistance to the FOSS driver and provides documentation. This is why AMD is liked more by Torvalds and others.

I don't think everyone should be going around installing Linux for any reason. That is no excuse to post misinformation due to ignorance or malice.

posted a message on Which Lenovo Laptop Should I Get For Gaming And School
    Quote from DanielRoyMC

Only the name Lenovo makes this laptop more pricey
Laptop with same specs (NO NOT ALIENWARE) and different name slapped on the laptop would cost less.

Not really my E535 was by far the cheapest with the specs and features. I even made a threat challenging people to find something cheaper and better and it could not be done.

In this case there the OP should get something else because Lenovo does not really make gaming laptops on the same level as Sager or Asus.

Every one keeps saying that flash is loosing support though? I asked my Uncle about it and he said that it's not likely that flash will become unsupported like java for a long time until they have something that works equally as well. If what your saying is true, then about every third website is going to become unsupported soon. I don't think flash is going unsupported like you do.

I don't run flashplayer anymore so as far as for me it is already unsupported.

posted a message on *Hiss of disgust* I am now an enemy of wired (braided) mice.
It is about the quality of wire, my corsair headset with braided cord has 0 kinks or looks any different then being brand new. My deathadder has had a few places where it is frayed a bit. It is a matter of quality not some inherent thing with braided wires.
