Verizon doesn't have that kind of infrastructure to work off of, though. So these claims are either baseless or they are expecting a large sum of money (upwards of a few billion) in the near future.
This is why I'm calling BS, AT&T's coverage may suck (or rather their coverage doesn't suck at all, but the network is so clogged everywhere that not as wide of a signal is sent out) but they DO own majority of the cell towers in the US (around 60% last I checked) and for Verizon to do this they would need to upgrade the towers, which they cannot do.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love for it to happen but it just sounds like hype.
Well I can't find any information about AT&t owning Verizons cell sites. Plus Verizon and AT&T both said there LTE networks would be ready by 2013. At&T coverage does suck at least in the Midwest no one who likes to use a cellphone ever gets anything but Verizon around here.
They might share some with Sprint but AT&T uses GSM and Verizon cdma. Verizon has never had issues when they role out upgrades to the evdo that they have done in the past few years.
Verizon has been working on the move to LTE sense 07.
Around here a company layed fiber optics to everyone's homes but ignored my city because the local company here did something to get the city to not let them put in fiber.
Now people just half a hour from me can get 100MBps in 2012 and already get 30MBps. We got a 50MBps line running into the public library I set up the network at.
