The 5870 is still a great card and almost impossible to find. I might get a good price for them online still.
I doubt it, it consumes a lot more power compared to the 7 series card that will match its performance probably the 7850 will consume a fraction of its power and have the advantage of a better architecture selling them right now wouldn't be hard but in a month it will be.
Don't buy these, they don't preform better than the 6990, or the Gtx 580.. not worth $550.
the 6990 is a dual card this is not meant to compete with it the 7990 will demolish the 6990. It most situations it is beating the 580gtx. The performance is going to get better on them too once the drivers mature.
Some of those bench marks don't seem accurate. Unless it's a driver issue. Either way I would LOVE to get my hands on a couple of these to replace my 5870's.
It is a brand new architecture and the only driver for it is in beta. There is still half a month between now and when the card releases, there will be a stable release driver hopefully. Also what specific benchmarks look odd to you?
Well not a complete launch the 7970 has hit review sites. The cards won't be on newegg tell next month but it is something to look forward too. Nvidia is a while from its next arch so the next few months will be AMD dominated graphics card wise. So here is some benchmarks the card is supposed to release at 550$
Benchmarks
Gamming
GPGPU processing
Power

The main issue was vistas performance was the overaggressive super fetch loading up so much crap into memory at start up. Also didn't vista get a dx11 patch I thought it was supposed to get one?
It CAN be bypassed though? Well at least that's good, I didn't know that.
I can't comment on any smartphone battery life, all of them have pretty horrible battery life without a battery saving app via custom ROM.
Even just idle on the highway going a town or two over will kill most smartphone batteries unless you put it in airplane mode.
My Droidx on the moto rom goes 1.5 days with mild usage and data on all the time. Motorola does not skimp on batter or call quality and radio quality grated they lock there phones down almost as bad as apple. They usually use crappy screens too.
CarrirIQ is in the kernel yes but with a 2-init rom like cyanogen on my droid x it can be bypassed. Im going to test drive the nexus for the two week return period while I'm visiting family in an area where I know my moms galaxy s is unable to text or make calls at all. If the nexus can place calls at least ill probably make it as for battery life I don't mind the thicker phone ill just beef it up.
You can control them with a cellphone with bluetooth my android can. But you gotta have it on discover and they would have to know your 4digit pass code and pair them beforehand. To pair you gotta hit accept on both devices.
Also the NXT kits suck long live RCX.
Also the code by default is 1234. I've done this all my self before there lots of fun iIgot a old RCX kit laying around somewhere.
Also if you are in the USA look into something called Best robotics it is high school level they are funded by Boeing and stuff it was a lot of fun.
Really? My friend has a Galaxy S II and he's on Verizon....
I don't really understand your UI comment, I haven't encountered anything with either the default UI or CyanogenMod.
Nope Verizon always gets a different version of Samsung phones the fascinate is the galaxy s 1 and it may be the worst phone I've ever seen.
Samsung uses touch wiz I think it is and it is not normal android has a lot of underlying modifications.
Cyanogen is an Aosp( Android Open source Project) This version still uses the Google base but a lot of modifications by the open source community.
Only reason I consider the Nexus is because it is a google device and gets updates from them and is fully unlocked for modding.
Also people around here with sprint I've noticed all use extended batteries on there Galaxy S that it is twice as thick as my droidX and they still get worse battery life then my X. My main issue is that is the horrible horrible experience I've seen from Samsung phones.
Extremely durable, very easily rooted (LITERALLY 2 minutes), easy to flash and pretty decent specs.
Neither of those phones are on Verizon and I can root my X in a min too.
I also hate Samsung custom UI Motorola blur actually adds features rather then just being annoying.
Ok with it nearing Christmas I'm buying my self a present that being a new smartphone my Droid x has served me well tho.
Motorola Razr
Specs
Display: 4.3” 540x960 Super AMOLED Advanced
Weight: 127g
Processor: Dual-core 1.2GHz processor
Battery: 1780 mAh
Pros
battery life
signal
build quality
sd card
cons
slower roms releases
no expandable battery
Captive buttons
Galaxy nexus
Specs:
4.65" HD(1280 x 720) Super AMOLED
150g
CPU: 1.2 GHZ dual core processor
Pros
Quick Custom firmware releases
larger screen for movies
Expandable battery
Google wallet NFC support with hacking
Cons
Poor signal
poor batterylife but can have the battery expanded
Samesung build quality
Lack of hardware buttons but software is better then crappy captive pos buttons.
I think I will clarify the Signal thing. Motorola phones get better reception I live in rural Kansas and family with Samsung phones have to rely on those of us with Motorola in order to call people.
I also do not baby my phone I've dropped my Droid X onto cement from a truck window and it survived this has happened 4 times now. Granted the Galaxy nexus is much better then Samsung old phones build quality wise.
I hate captive buttons with a passion why more company's don't make hardware buttons like the Droidx I will never know.
Also don't say you can't run custom firmware on Motorola phones because of the locked boot loader I got Cyanogen mod with ice cream sandwich running on my droid X.
I really do enjoy modding my phone but the signal issues of the nexus make me not want to but it. Verizon did release a statement it could be fixed with software. But to what extent the Fascinate was supposed to get a fix for the signal issues it never did I got family who just quit turning it on because it never had signal ever unless in the second floor in a building in town.
My DroidX has lasted me a long time but a few minor issues have come up with it I've had it for almost 2 years and I'm not sure a 100% stable ICS is ever going to get ported to it. LTE is also coming up in areas that I travel to on a monthly basis and that is pushing me to get a LTE device.
I can also get a deal to get 100$ when I get a new phone this month so that is a 200$ galaxy nexus or droid razor.
Kinda biased to Motorola to some extent it is the only phone manufacturer I've ever used.
Just looking for some opinions before I go buy in a few days.
(Edit)Well I got the Nexus my small personal review at the bottom.
I have played with the kindle fire before. It is so full of custom amazon firmware almost none of normal android is there. Never got a chance to play with the asus transformer.
Motorola makes some good tablets the motoblur on there tablets is very light.
Uh because its asus does not magically make it perform better. My custom built desktop would out perform any ASUS laptop.
The best sager laptop would murder any ASUS laptop.

I usually give my old cards to friends with crap computers or build a second computer for something like folding@home.

As much as I would love to buy one of these my current CPU is holding my 6970 back. That and I need a new cellphone.

My 8600gt would sit at 110c 24/7 at load then Nvidia driver bugged stooped the fan and melted it.
