Let's see, you're going to need one of everything. This isn't going to be a matter of just upgrading, you're going to need a whole new computer. There's nothing wrong with salvaging the case or anything else, but all of the hardware is obsolete. The motherboard doesn't support SATA or PCIE from what I can tell, and the power supply is only rated at 250w.

I doubt I could build a decent PC for $300, but some of the other people here are very good at that. I honestly don't know how they do it.

I found an error in the picture. In the graphics section, they say that the ATI card costs $200. This is not the case, since it replaces the GT120, which you are already paying $150 for, bringing the cost of the 4870 to $350.

I troll around them from time to time still but it's not really fun.

......Save for the Republican chatrooms, holy crap they take the bait every single time.

Well, I just have no interest in chat rooms anymore. They were fun for a time, but I prefer to have time to think about what I want to type.

It's easy to get people fired up over politics. All you really have to do is mention Obama in some way or another and sit back and watch the train wreck.

Have you ever been to AOL chatrooms? It's entirely made of old lonely people looking for someone to talk to, and almost everyone types proper English.

Honestly, it barely happens anymore. You can go on for yourself and see.

It's almost sad, really, that it's just a collection of lonely people. :sad.gif:

Yeah, I used to go to AOL chat rooms all the time. It was where I got the vast majority of my porn when I was a kid, before Kazaa and other such programs. But like I said, I have not been for like 15 years. Things much have changed a lot.

In my extremely bored times I will go on one of those anonymous chat rooms. When someone says asl, I just leave.

So how long is it on average before someone says that? I remember messages alternating between "asl" and "anyone got pics" consistently. I doubt people trade pics over AOL chat anymore though.

I guess if you get a job and pay for a replacement yourself you won't be inclined to break your expensive equipment?

As far as fixing the console, it depends on the damage. The ribbon might be able to be reattached and it will work, but maybe there's internal damage. I don't know, stop throwing **** against a wall.

I see that you are like me then, in that I spoke proper English when I was 14.

Of course, Twitter and text messaging weren't really around/weren't very popular.

Oh come on, there was still the AOL chat rooms, which is where language used to go to die. It probably still does, but I haven't been there in a decade and a half.

Usually they put in the smallest and cheapest one they can get away with. Probably about 350 to 400 watts. It will say on the label if you care to check.

I just checked the specs on HP's website, and they say it's rated at 300w. That is not going to be enough power for your 7900, unfortunately. It also explains why you can't find your 6-pin PCIE, because it isn't there.

If you do ever get it working, you should also keep an eye on your temps. HP cases have terrible air flow and many graphics cards can easily turn it into an oven.

See this is the problem with putting a shiny new graphics card in a factory PC. You get the card, then find out you don't have enough power. You get a new PSU, then the PC get's too hot, then you need to get a new case. The good thing is, a decent case will outlast it's components many times over.

Btw, do you know what your power supply is rated at?

It's a SATA drive. The pins you're looking at are for the jumpers. Since you have a SATA drive, you have no reason to mess with them.

Yeah, there is a solution, although it's very labor intensive. That is, separate all the wires and put them in a wire loom. Or twist ties if you're ghetto..

Gah! Ribbons, I hated running those around. Seemed like I always got a connector that was somehow upside down. Nice dust collection though.

My room gets pretty dusty sometimes, and the HAF is like a vacuum.

How could you let it get that dirty?!?!?! I clean mine out every 2 months.

I don't, obviously. :biggrin.gif: But now that I took the cover off I feel bad for my poor PC. Just look at that dust bunny sitting on top of the CPU cooler.
