Im not complaining, but today I realized I have a lost great terrain for until MCPE updates more (finally got Xbox to connect to xbox live and download update). I thought my world survived well, till I learned my land, with bright green grass, was swamp, a huge area of forest nearby was now desert, and the old desert next to my house was turned to either extreme hills or Taiga. Im going to spend the next couple of months trying to repair it. Well, also starting a new world made it really boring to explore, and the village I found looked like crap.
Just shows how bad it is compared to old terrain.

Cant fix what aint broke.
OT: I wont need a new world, no need. Witches huts are still derp, so no need to keep them standing if I find one.
Thanks for correcting me.
They need to improve it. -

Artuskan posted a message on I think I've lost my heart for minecraft. If you want to see a good sampler of the old terrain, check out this old video of mine. Bear in mind that, except for the Great Falls area, which appears at about 2:27 or 2:28, most of this terrain wasn't considered sufficiently exceeding the norm enough to merit being named.Posted in: Discussion
If you'd like to take your own joyride, a newer save with a powered version of the rail system is available at:
http://www.mediafire...s784kc8hvgupusp
Edit 10/16: My apologies to anyone who downloaded the save. Evidently changes in the last several releases have changed minecart physics in such a way that my minecart intersection/roundabouts are no longer usable. It used to be that when you were facing in a given direction in a cart, you remained facing in that direction. Now you seem to twitch around at random, making it extremely difficult to line up on the switches. The save is still good for observing the terrain, but not by rail. -

And again, we don't want to go back to the old version, what we want is what was good about the old version brought forward into the present.

That's not what this thread is about at all.Quote from nFbCrusader
There should be a world terrain option that allows us to choose world generation back to Indev and Alpha. Like some of the mods out there. It would be awesome!

See, I am between a rock and a hard place right now.
I really enjoyed the temperature system in 1.7.3. However, I do acknowledge that some predictability is ensured with this system. On the other hand, I really couldn't say I noticed the predictability when we were using it. I feel that world generation is sloppy without this system.
The question is:
Should we try to keep predictability out as much as possible by neglecting to restore the temperature system?
or...
Can we give up a minute amount of possibility ensuring that biome-to-biome transitions aren't sloppy by restoring the system?
The idea that two biomes with vastly different climates should border each other is pretty general.
Keep in mind that it really boils down to two different scenarios we've seen played out:
1. The biomes instantly change from one biome to another, with grass changing colors almost instantly.
2. The biomes gradually shift from one code to another, including grass and weather patterns.
Neither directly result in "varied terrain." You can say snow and sand are part of the terrain, and for the first scenario you would be correct. But in the second, snow and sand are part of the climate.
With the gradual shift, there is a chance for biomes to overlap, which produces sub-biomes which share features of two or more colliding biomes. So in a sense, the second scenario is the one with the most variance due to that overlap of biomes creating a larger array of sub-biome types.
But in terms of the first, variance could mean the shift from multiple biomes in one small area. A jungle, desert, forest, plain, and tundra could all potentially be in the exact same chunk at the same time. Variance in the biome could be derived from the shear amount of different core biomes.
So either scenario we've seen has variance, but they are different types. Some would argue one way, some the other way.
The main problem, and the most obvious one, is that the first scenario where biomes instantly change from one type to another with little to no transition does not translate well to a creative game, especially one with three dimensions.

It is reasonable to compare what has happened here in Minecraft with characteristics of Terraria.
A quote of Notch stated something to the effect that he liked the quick transition facilitated in Terraria because it gave a sense of definite borders.
Such a feature is not flawed on its own, but it is flawed in its current execution in Minecraft.
For Terraria, the very apparent borders between biomes occurs literally from one block to another. Grass color changes and the backdrop and music with it. You know you are in a new biome because of these things, and ambiance shifts dramatically.
So you might ask "Why do this? Why make it so abrupt a change with no motive?" Well, there is a motive to this shift.
In the game Terraria you can actually change the biomes by hand. Biomes were designed with the use of a system where the cutting of grass provided you with seeds of that particular grass type. You can then use those seeds, meeting certain requirements, to completely plant a biome anywhere you wished.
A large body of sand eventually shifts the entire backdrop and music towards a desert type.
A large body of mud covered in jungle grass turns into a jungle.
Corruption, hallow, etc... all have respective conditions in which the biome shifts completely towards a core biome type.
Now you might be wondering what all this has to do with Minecraft. But it is a fairly simple concept.
Notch included the hard borders because he meant to capture the ambiance of those biomes.
But what he failed to do was add a separate "backdrop" including music, skylines, mob types, etc...
He also failed to add the ability to manually turn a biome from one type to another, a key benefit to having the system; one that effectively balances all the cons that the system brings with it.
So, you see, we got all of the disadvantages of the Terraria system with none of the advantages. Ambiance, music, unique mobs, the ability to manually define biomes, and a reasonable context are all void in the current system.
The sacrifice of variance is only justified if there is a reason to sacrifice.
In the case of Minecraft, there is no justifiable reason (other than "I thought it would work"), which makes it a ****-poor system.
(Also, I could mention how hard borders just doesn't work with a 3D game compared to a 2D game, but that is too obvious of a comparison. We all know why that doesn't work ***Cough***Swamps***Cough***) -

Strottinglemon posted a message on Buying MC in Illinois ?!Unfortunately Illinois and Sweden (the country Minecraft is developed in) have a slightly checkered past. You see, in the Great Meatball War of '87 the state and the country were engaged in an all-out war, started when a citizen in Illinois threw a meatball at the Queen of Sweden when she was visiting the states. Many meatballs were thrown... It all ended with the Treaty of Peacefulness in 1991. While hostilities ceased, Sweden would no longer permit anything made there to be sold to Illinois folks, including Minecraft. In order to obtain your copy you'll need to contact the Mafia, who should be all over Chicago IL, and ask them to "hook you up". It might cost you an "arm and a leg" but at least you'll have Minecraft. Just try to be discrete about it around police, because they'll ship you to Sweden for punishment if you're caught.Posted in: Discussion - To post a comment, please login.

Single player - one high fence full of pigs
Multiplayer - 2 high fence, almost empty, 1 chicken on top of fence, 1 pig outside

tl;dr? Is the mob glitching over fence going to get fixed in 1.3?
