Hey guys! Long time no see. :)

I've been working away at the update, although much slower than I would have liked. Too much stuff on my plate right now, ugh. That said, things are progressing alright and I expect to be able to put out the 1.8 update in time (whenever that might be).

Since this update adds new stone types, I took the opportunity to first update my old stone and cobblestone. These were some of first blocks I made and I really wasn't happy with them anymore.

I replaced my natural stone with something that looks more craggy and natural. The concrete style rock I had before didn't fit the rustic look I had in mind for the pack.

For the cobblestone, I made the stones chunkier, so I had more room to shade them properly. I also added some color variation between the different stones.

The changes to the cobblestone meant I had to revamp my furnaces to match. I also made them tile into the cobblestone now properly, so they can be used together in an ornamental way.

I also changed my stone slabs to be the same color as the natural stone while I was at it. I always felt the contrast between the two was a bit much, but I initially designed it like that, because it allowed for brighter colored buildings. However, with the addition of the new stone types, I felt this was no longer necessary.

Here's a before/after screenshot of the stone changes:

After that, I worked on all the new stone types. I tried to create designs for them that would contrast with the existing stone, but at the same time, share lots of colors with it, so they still play together well in building designs.

Also, now that I had darkened my slabs, they didn't fit with my quartz set anymore. This void was filled by matching the diorite colors to the quartz set. I also brightened the entire quartz set, as requested by users who felt the old color was "too dirty".

Here's some screenshots of the new stone used together with existing blocks. It also shows what the new mossy cobblestone looks like, which I think is a lot cuter and more readable with the bigger leaf shapes.

That's it for now, I'll keep you guys posted on the progress! ^_^

Sorry if this issue has been brought up already, but it seems that both the custom fog and sky colors are no longer working as expected. I've created these comparison screenshots the illustrate the issue. Both screenshots were taken with the same texture pack version and the same settings, the only difference is the game version.

I'm not sure if you guys are at all interested in this, but I created a skin for a game other than Minecraft and wrote a tutorial about it. Obviously, the resolution is quite a bit higher than Minecraft, but it might still be useful, especially if you're creating HD skins.

The final product looks like this, in case you were wondering:

Hai guise! I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but I totally have not been working on the Minecraft update! Not yet, anyways. :P

Instead, I created a skin for a completely different game (Quake 3). It looks like this:

    https://dl.dropboxus...rose-render.jpg
    https://dl.dropboxus...krose-flats.jpg
    https://dl.dropboxus...-screenshot.jpg

And you can even download it: https://dl.dropboxus...n-blackrose.zip

Just in case you felt like playing Quake 3. Which by now is... uhm, 14 years old!
And that's also for how long I've been making skins.

So anyway, the good news is that it's done (which means I can start on the Minecraft update). :D
The other good news is that I created a tutorial about it! Check it out!

Perhaps not as useful if you're creating default resolution Minecraft skins, but if you're making HD skins, similar methods do apply.

Yeah, here's the previous version of the pack, which works with Minecraft 1.6: http://www.wayuki.net/minecraft/Wayukian_pack_v6.2.zip

I have been using this pack for a few months now, and would like your permission to use it on my small server. It's a small-ish server only 20 people at a time, but I built the whole thing with this pack and it makes it look like magic.I will add a link on my website to this forum, and credit you on the server. In fact, I'll whitelist you if you want so you can see what I've done so far. Please Message me with your decision!

I'm not sure what happened to this posts formatting...

    Yeah, sure thing! :)

Considering how much work and time she puts into the textures, I think Wayuki should stay away from snapshots and focus on what is already released.

    The mobs for example.

That way she's not in a never-ending game of "catch up"
So she's only working on the newest stuff in the current version.

It's never a good idea to fall behind on snapshot stuff. Because then the official release is made, and everyone expects my pack to be up to date with it instantly.

However, updates these days are HUGE. For instance, it took me a full three months of spending all of my free time to do the horse update.

So if I wait till the final release and still have three months of work ahead of me just to make my pack usable again, imagine how annoyed people would be! They would start flocking to packs that were on top of their stuff instead.

As for a never-ending game of catch-up, that's what happens regardless. Either I fall behind on old content, or I fall behind on new content. I always fall behind on something, there's no other way around it.

So that's why with every Minecraft update, I work to include all new content, plus as many items from the old content as I can fit into my schedule. That way, I'm catching up, albeit very slowly.

Ofcourse though, whenever I release a bunch of new mob skins, people mostly like to fixate on the ones I didn't get to yet.

    Left you hanging? <_<

I spent every single weekend from May 18th to November 4th working on mobs, the horse update, and the flower update. I also worked on my pack many nights after work.

I did that instead of going out, visiting friends, shopping, sleeping, and all those other things that most normal people do.

After that... I took a break. I like to think it was a deserved break. <_<

hm. i guess that's just me then. if you don't think that, you're welcome to discard what i said also, this thread hasn't had any activity for ages, and so i'll start a new topic of conversation: a ) it's been a while since an update, how are the nether mobs and such doing? and b ) i noticed that the newest version of MCpatcher supports things such as different textures for different amonts of damage, and i'm wondering if you're thinking about that. i'm just asking since it seems the sort of thing you'd add to the pack

a ) Well, I just came back from a 3 week holiday to my home country, so no progress whatsoever! :P
b ) No, that's too much work. I'll never make it through all the default content if I also have to make different damage states for every tool.

Well, I'm a texture artist, not a sound artist.
I also consider my pack to be a texture pack, not a replace-the-entire-game pack.

I'm not interested in muddling up my texture pack with poor quality sounds, which would inevitably happen if I were to attempt such a thing with my limited recording equipment and general lack of skill in this area. I would never be able to outdo or even match the quality of the sounds that come with the game. From my perspective, they don't really need replacing, hehe!

I'm also not interested in lifting sounds from the many free sources online. This pack is my personal art project, so I wouldn't include stuff that wasn't made by me.

Keep in mind that with the new way resource packs are handled, you can have both a texture pack and a separate sound pack and use them together without having to merge the ZIP files. So, if you really would like to have different sounds, I recommend downloading dedicated sound pack, such as SnowSong.

Hell, if I ever were to make a sound pack, I would probably release it as a separate pack entirely! For easy mix-matching... and stuff. :P

This is why I wish they did something when Junkboy was hired. Minecraft was pretty big back then, but it wasn't nearly as big as it is now(Xbox version has really opened the doors to a much wider audience). It could have probably afforded to make the change without annoying too many fans/players. Now it's definitely way too late to do it.

I'm glad at least they have made some improvements to the support of custom stuff. To me, community content is at least half of the fun! :)

no. what wayuki does is amazing, but it doesn't put mojang to shame. when you're a company that spends 90% of your time coding games, new and old, with the rest spent on basic functions for living, textures aren't going to be a priority. that's why they made custom textures a part of the game. to make it personal, to make people enjoy the game more, and most importantly, to offload a little of their staggering workload. mojang don't have the time required to put in the work wayuki does on textures. wayuki is amazing, but that's no reason to insult mojang. and i doubt wayuki would want her work to be used as an insult to them. i certainly wouldn't.

I think Mojang might be hesitant to do a massive overhaul of their ingame art, and rightfully so. The game became successful despite the quirky programmer art, or perhaps even because of it! Why touch the success formula and potentially alienate a large section of the player base?
