@Shan: I was thinking much the same about the drinks. About the boiling water, it produces a very prominent bubbling, steaming sound. Keep in mind it only spawns in pools in volcano biomes.

@Hyatt: I'll add that, since it seems quite obvious.

@Nooby: Explain why you don't like boiling water. If it helps, I'm changing it so it spawns naturally ONLY in volcano biomes and that it will be easier to distinguish and less harmful. I might make it have a short delay before it starts dealing damage, like real boiling water. I hope these will make the concept go down better with people.

    Hedgehogs:

    Habitat/environment: Forests.
Behavior/AI: Hedgehogs wander around much like any other passive mob, but avoid things that would damage them. When they are hurt, they curl up into a block that damages players and mobs when hit or touched.

Drops: Hedgehogs quills that can be thrown to deal a heart of damage.

Taming/abilities: Hedgehogs are tamed with milk. They deal minor damage to mobs and players that touch them other than the player that tamed them. When right clicked, they curl up into a block (this can be accomplished by hitting it as well but that causes damage to it). Right clicking a tamed, curled up porcupine will uncurl it. When G-clicked (G is for grabbing), the hedgehog will be picked up and held above the player's head. right clicking will throw the hedgehog to deal damage to a player or mob. The thrown hedgehog will not be hurt.

Healing/health: Hedgehogs are healed with milk (3 hearts) and bread (2 hearts). Hedgehogs have 6 hearts and display their health with the angle of their spines.

We already have lava; Water is usually seen as a place for people that are burning to cool down. If people run towards water, only to find warm water they'll kill themselves. This would be fine if it were to make the game harder, but it could be deceptive to new players.

Boiling water is of a much lighter color so it won't decieve players with at least half a brain. I'll add that to the OP.

Something like that would be perfect for the queen spider in this thread of mine (see spider nest)! Normal spider? I don't think so.

EDIT: Equeon, that info on the "spider nests" seems an awful lot like the "spider nests" I came up with. Coincidence? I think not.

I haven't even seen your spider nests idea. I used a combination of my previous ideas (boss battles, loot chests, spiderweb blocks, poison) plus some inspiration from Spider Families.
    Don't go falsely accusing.

Sorry, I was just shocked by the resemblance and the fact that you once checked out and commented on the thread it was in (biome/environmental update). I also really wanted to say those last 2 sentences. I'm sorry of I wrongly accused you.

    Just kidding.

The boiling water looks a little OP as it flows like normal water, which is faster than the player.
Therapy water?? uhhh... doesn't fit that much.
Warm water? Maybe, if it has better uses.

Boiling water: I'm fixing the "randomly spawning underground part". It only spawns is water is very close to lava or in a volcano biome.
Therapy water: Yes, guns and nukes don't "fit" in Minecraft. Aside from that, it's just opinion. I think it fits perfectly well.
Warm water: Umm, hot tubs and awesome geysers to shoot you into the sky (plus more uses coming soon).

I'd love the "flowing" source blocks. They could act just like normal water source blocks, but with a natural directional bias.

Nice. I like it, but it should have a GUI or some sort of interface that allows you to select a specific biome that it will lead you to. That would be a lot more useful than just knowing what biome you're currently in, in my opinion.

    Boiling water:

Boiling water produces bubbles and steam and burns mobs and players at a rate of half a heart every 2 seconds. There is always a 4 second delay before damage is taken. It is a light blue color, much lighter than normal water and produces a distinctive bubbling noise. It flows identically to normal water. boiling water can be found naturally in volcano biomes. When one source block of boiling water is isolated from other liquids, it acts as a geyser and randomly spurts up into the air. These are the conditions for a geyser:

    :grass: :Blue: :grass:
    :soil: :soil: :soil:

:Blue: = Boiling or warm water

Normal water source blocks will become boiling when within 5 blocks of lava, so it can sometimes spawn outside of volcano biomes. Due to the steam of boiling water, it may be used with pistons somehow when and if they are released.

    Warm water:

Warm water works exactly the same as boiling water (geysers, steam, bubbles, etc.) but causes no damage. It is created when normal and boiling water meet. It is also a bit darker than boiling water. Warm water is ideal for hot tubs. Its geyser abilities can be utilized to make a harmless, simple "elevator" system. Warm water can be used to make therapy water. First, therapy oil must be crafted like so:

    [] :Green: []
    :YFlower: :////: :YFlower:
    [] :Logs^: []

    :Green: = Cactus
    :////: = Reeds
    :Logs^: = Bowl

Therapy oil can be put in pools of warm water to make a pool of therapy water that appears a light, pastel blue-green that slowly heals the player while they are in it at a rate of about half a heart every 5 seconds. Therapy water, when collected with a bucket yields only warm water making it impossible to have an infinite supply without hacking. Normal water within 5 blocks of lava will become warm. Beverages can be brewed with warm water. To make beverages, players need to fill bowls of water by use of a basin:

    :Iron: [] :Iron:
    :wood: [] :wood:
    :wood: :wood: :wood:

Basins can be filled with one bucket of water or 10 bowls of water and can be emptied with one bucket or 10 bowls. Basically the exchange is 1-10. Water bowls can't be placed. Beverages are then brewed by crafting ingredients with warm water bowls. Tea heals for 2 hearts, but provides an energy boost (caffeine!) that speeds up the players movements and mining by a small amount for 2 minutes. Tea is make like so:

    [] :YFlower: []
    :////: :RFlower: :////:
    [] :Logs^: []

    :////: = Reeds
    :Logs^: = Warm water bowl

Coffee can also be made, which heals for 2 hearts and speeds the player up a bit for 4 minutes.

    [] :....:
    [] :Logs^:

    :....: = Cocoa beans
    :Logs^: = Warm water bowl

Hot chocolate provides no energy boost, but heals for a nice 7 hearts.

    [] :....: []
    :GP: :White: :GP:
    [] :Logs^: []

    :....: = Cocoa beans
    :GP: = Sugar
    :White: = Milk bucket
    :Logs^: = Warm water bowl

That's not all! Along with that, there are fizzy beverages. These are the original sodas and are brewed with warm water but also must have 2 snowballs to cool them down (who wants a warm root beer). These drinks involve 2 new items: ginger and sassafras roots. Ginger roots come from destroying the block below a yellow flower and sassafras roots from the block below a red flower. Both drinks make the players health act like it would on peaceful mode for 15 seconds.
    [] :GoldBar: []
    :GP: :GoldBar: :GP:
    :White: :Logs^: :White:

    :GoldBar: = Ginger root
    :GP: = Sugar
    :White: = Snowball
    :Logs^: = Warm water bowl

    [] :Iron: []
    :GP: :Iron: :GP:
    :White: :Logs^: :White:

    :Iron: = Sassafras root
    :GP: = Sugar
    :White: = Snowball
    :Logs^: = Warm water bowl

    Cold:

Cold water is found naturally in snowy biomes and ice biomes. It also is created when normal water is within 5 blocks of ice or snow. Cold water slows the player down more than normal water and flows the same as normal water. Snowballs can be put into pools of cold water to make ice. Drinking a bowl of cold water (all water bowls can be drunk) will put out the player if they are on fire.

    Flow blocks:

Flow blocks are source blocks with a natural directional bias. They are one full block and are inclined to move in one specific direction. If there is a flow block on a flat surface, it will flow one direction rather than spreading everywhere. Flow blocks are often found as large rivers. Flow blocks will simply become normal water when bucketed.

    Floating water:

Floating water is a rare, un-bucketable spawn and has an unusual physics with gravity. It floats above the ground and follows the ground's contours, often coagulating into floating blobs. It hovers in midair and flows throught the sky. I know this would be hard or nearly impossible to program, I just think it's an interesting concept.
    Temperature overview:

    Meetings:

    Normal/boiling: Warm
    Normal/warm: Normal
    Normal/cold: Normal
    Boiling/warm: Boiling
    Boiling/cold: Normal
    Warm/cold: Normal

    Heat scale:

    Boiling- 2
    Warm- 1
    Normal- 0
    Cold- -1

    Heating/cooling:

Within 2 blocks of lava- plus 2
Within 5 blocks of lava- plus 1
Within 5 blocks of ice or snow- minus 1
Rain- minus 1 for boiling and warm
Snow- minus 2 for boiling and warm, minus 1 for normal

More stuff is always coming! Stay posted!

posted a message on [Mob suggestion] Monkeys

    Monkeys:

Habitat/environment: Archipelago biome (alternatively, rainforest biome).

Behavior/AI: Monkeys are skittish and will avoid players. They also avoid high drops and other things that would hurt them like lava, cacti, etc. They are passive.

    Drops: Nothing.

Taming/abilities: Monkeys will approach you if you play coconut shells for them. Once they are close enough, feed them bananas until they become your faithful pet. Why would you want a pet monkey? Well, they're super-cute for starters. Also, monkeys are very clever and can help you find things. If you give a monkey an item, it will attempt to find that material elsewhere. Depending on the rarity of the material, the monkey doesn't always get things right. For example, giving it a flower will make a 100% chance of your companion finding that type of flower. Giving him (or her) a diamond gem will have a much larger margin of error (a bit more than half). When a monkey has found what it's looking for, it will jump up and down and hoot, triumphantly. If the monkey has found something underground, they will do a victory dance above it. Monkeys can go underwater and can be equipped with some sort of item to allow them to breathe underwater. Monkeys are great fruit gatherers. G-clicking (G is for gathering) a monkey then right clicking a tree will cause them to scurry up the tree (monkeys can climb vertical surfaces up to 10 blocks) and destroy a leaf block, collecting the corresponding fruit and tossing it to the player.

Healing/health: Monkeys can be healed with bananas (4 hearts), coconut water (3 hearts), or apples (2 hearts). Monkeys have 8 hearts of health and display their health with their tails.
