posted a message on Ban Adfly links

Adfly is NOT an acceptable way of monetizing your download. The ads are malicious and try to trick you into running something that will infect your computer, and also take over your browser window with dialog boxes that cannot be closed. Many, many people use these links, but all they're doing is getting people infected.

Links to Adfly should therefore be prohibited in the future, for the protection of forum members.

I would very much like to see stone brick fences. It only makes sense that stone types other than cobblestone should be able to be crafted into fences, just as they are able to be crafted into slabs. These would add an aesthetic appeal that a lot of people are wanting but currently do not have.

posted a message on Minecraft Death Trap. Troll your friends, Collect their stuff!
Not bad, though my traps tend to be a little more elaborate and harder to detect. For example, the button or lever that triggers the trap will actually open the door if a remote lever is turned on. So you can actually use the room, and friends / other players can see you using it, but when they try to do it, it kills them. The hard part is to make the trap inescapable once triggered. Where, even if they know the trap is there and react instantly, there's nothing they can do.

Support. Eggs are rather useless right now, as the only foods they make have poor stats compared to their ingredient and time investment. I only use them to spawn more chickens. That said, they should probably heal 4 hunger, not 2, because you DO have to spend resources to cook them; otherwise they're inferior to Melons, which would heal the same and stack to 64, without being cooked.

Seriously, get a bow, and just drop a lava bucket down. It's not hard. That said, exploring chasms is a waste, beyond checking for abandoned mineshafts. The danger is just too high for any miniscule reward. Digging your own mine is much safer as you can light it as you go.

posted a message on Nether: Please make a way for players to keep Zombie Pigmen from spawning!
Light can't really play a part because there's too much fire and lava in the Nether. If you restricted them based on light level, you'd see a lot less of them. I don't want to do something that will have a major effect on their spawning. I just want them to not spawn on non-Nether blocks. That's really all I'm asking for.

Flaminghawk83, part of the point of Minecraft is bending the world to your will. This is the one mob that has no spawning stipulations beyond its size. As long as it's the Nether, and at least 2 blocks tall, they will spawn. I LIKE playing survival. I realize Pigmen are "part" of survival, but not being able to have any control over them irks me and creates massive problems.

I think brewing has a place in the game, but I think it needs to be rebalanced. It just needs fixing so that potions aren't something you'll never run out of. You shouldn't be using them constantly. They should be something you have to plan for and ration.

Pigmen as a mob are completely useless and just plain annoying. The only things no mobs can spawn on are slabs placed on the lower half of a block and glass (they recently fixed it so they can spawn on upper-half slabs). Neither of these can accept redstone, rails, torches, or any number of other things.

posted a message on Fix Slabs
There really is no good way to do this without adding a TON of new textures and block types to the game, and the result would be incredibly messy. The problem is you're mixing two types of materials in one block, which fundamentally goes against the block-based system Minecraft is built on. When you stack two slabs of the same type, currently, it is creating a new block (ID #43 or #145 depending on stone or wood) with the appropriate metavalue for the type. What this would do is require every single slab type to have a double slab block for every individual other slab model in the game.

There are currently 13 slab types. So for each of those, you would have to create 12 additional double-slab variants, essentially adding 156 new blocks to the game (which would likely be the same block with different metavalues). This alone would make a mess of the Creative inventory, assuming they showed up (which they wouldn't) and would add a ton of complexity. Plus there's the question of whether it burns if it's a mixed type (wood / stone), which tool is used to mine it, etc. What a mess. It's not likely to ever happen.

It's not actually "impossible" to do this with the way the game is currently written, but it would be messy. Too messy.

For fire resistance, it would reduce the amount of burn damage by that amount. To be fair, if you're at full hunger bar, it wouldn't take much to effectively give you full fire resistance. You'll simply regenerate faster than you can take damage. Lava is the real reason people make these, though, and it kills you much faster. Nobody really fears just fire.

I have no real issue with the amount of time they last, especially since they don't stack. Though perhaps it should require a block of redstone to extend it, not just a single redstone dust.

Potions of Night Vision would set your viewed light level to 5, 10, and 15 respectively, based on potion strength. For most other potions, simply divide their effects by 1/3 or 1/2 to see the results.

posted a message on Nether: Please make a way for players to keep Zombie Pigmen from spawning!
Frankly, Pigmen are annoying. They spawn at any light level, on any surface. They block rail lines, invade your shelter, and generally just get in the way. Can we please, please, PLEASE make it so they only spawn on Nether surfaces, such as Netherrack, Nether Brick, and Soul Sand? So that, should you want to absolutely keep them out, you only have to use overworld blocks such as Cobblestone for your floor? Right now, they're the only mob in the game that the player has no reasonable way of controlling their spawn.

Overworld monsters: keep light level above 7.
    Overworld animals: avoid grass.
Ghast: Don't give them an area big enough to spawn in.

So how about making it so they don't spawn on overworld blocks? It's not hard. Plenty of existing mobs are already restricted on the types of blocks they can spawn on. It's not hard. There's nothing like taking a minecart through the Nether on an enclosed cobblestone causeway and you see a group of Pigmen abruptly spawn right in front of you and stop your cart. I had to take some very undesirable measures to keep them off the tracks that frankly are lame (slabs at head height; don't cause suffocation for the player riding the cart, but keep things from walking on the track). I would gladly replace every bit of remaining Nether blocks as the floor if it meant keeping them completely off my tracks, out of my shelters, etc.

posted a message on Potions need a rework / partial nerf , and here's my suggestion
As a longtime Minecraft player, I have to say that potions just make the game too easy. 1 Nether Wart, 1 magma cream, and 1 redstone give you 3 8-minute potions of fire resistance, which make you completely immune to all fire and lava. Redstone is so plentiful that you'll never need to worry about running out, and Nether Wart is farmable. Anything that lets you swim in lava needs to be far more valuable than that. Same goes for anything that lets you breathe water.

What I propose is to have different potion strengths based on how many potions you brew at one time. After all, 3 potions dilutes the ingredients far more than making one potion. So if you're making fire resistance potions, you brew 3 at a time, you'll get 3 33% resistance potions. Brew 2 at a time, get 2 50%, and if you brew one, you get one full-power 100% resistance potion.

Obviously, this gets more complicated with potions that have more simple effects, but it could be done; for potions of invisibility, for example, maybe reduce the range monsters can see you by that amount. Some potions, like the Potion of Healing, could get even more powerful with this rebalance, perhaps keeping its current strength for the baseline but tripling it for brewing a single potion.

Overall the potion rebalance would not be gamebreaking, and it would create a reason for being able to make different numbers of bottles in the brewing stand at once. The power-to-investment ratio as it stands currently is just too much.

Note: This is coming from someone who has played the game since mid-Alpha and who just constructed a 650-block long 3-track flat railway through the Nether, with a causeway going directly over lava for hundreds of blocks. With fire resistance potions, I did not feel there was any danger at all. The server in question had been up for less than 2 weeks when the railway was completed.
