For an AMD CPU you need an AM3 or AM3+ socket motherboard.

For an i3/i5/i7 you need an LGA socket 1155 motherboard.

For your current processor, assuming it's a normal C2Duo you would need an LGA 775 socket mobo, of course LGA 775 stuff is expensive as all hell usually, and you would be better off just getting a new mobo/CPU which it seems you already decided.

Might not hurt to get a new PSU as well.

Actually, when I put in the new GTX 560, I also had to get a new PSU, I got a 700 watt one, should be sufficient.

    This motherboard might work.

I presume that it has at least two GPU slots? The model I have is dual width.

Give me link to RAM, please.

This Is the RAM. And I guess it wouldn't be too much trouble to buy a seperate 4-6 gigs of ram?

Seeing as the only CPU-hungry thing I will be doing is gaming, I guess extra cores won't be that benefical, although right now it's probably bottlnecking my GPU.
I just checked from the original purchase order, the RAM is

    4GB DDR2 SDRAM 800MHZ-4X1GB DIM M

I meant I havent bought the computer yet so it's basically useless.

I have alread upgraded my computer multiple times, and I'm sure I could build one (12 years old)

    What socket is the CPU?
How many pins does the RAM have?

    Well This is the CPU
And I do not know how to get the model of the ram. Because of the fact that I bought this computer prebuilt, all I know is the amount, which is 2x 2.0 gb

x8 CPUs? I believe those would be Bulldozers. Bulldozers came out mid-October, and are ****.

Hmm. Horay for not actually checking the dates on random internet posts I read! Also, makes sense. Pretty much all of the top-of-the-line products are either overpriced, likely to destroy themselves, or both.

Hmm, in that case, you would be best off with a Phenom x4 (BULLDOZERS AN X6es ARE NEVER WORTH THE MONEY). A mobo like this would be good.

I'm assuming you mean US Dollars?

Yes, in Dollars. Also, isn't there some sort of new x8 series coming out soon, perhaps dropping the price of the others? Also, I won't be doing any overclocking with the processor, had some faulty experiences with the GTX 560 in that way.

Well, again, I have no experiance in this matter, my budget is only around ~150 for the processor, and maybe another 100 for the mobo. I only think I would need a new mobo because of the fact that it is likely that I would go with AMD, due to lower cost and more (albeit, less safe) power.

I have no clue how to chose a motherboard. I am upgrading my computer, and the next step is a new processor, which, because it it is roughly 3 years old, would require a new motherboard. (Also changing from intel to AMD)

    Specs:
    4 Gigs RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.94 Ghz (dual core)
    GTX 560 ti Hawke
No clue what the motherboard is.
    1Tb Harddrive

I am intending on upgrading the CPU from the intel to some sort of 4 or 6 core AMD processor (Haven't picked a model yet). Any help would be welcome, I know I could easily destroy my computer by getting the wrong part(s).

Well, I am no programmer. In fact, I just started learning how a month or two ago. But from what I know from that, and various people I know who do quite a lot of serious programming, C is where you want to start.

I have a GTX-N560 ti Hawke GPU sitting next to me, and I'm wondering if my duel-core i2 @ 2.94 Ghz will bottleneck it.
