supa1337killa posted a message on Why do people use "12 year old" as an insult?Well mostly people view 12 year olds as young, ignorant, and immature. Therefore it's a common stereotype. Also people tend to find them annoying since they don't know much about the internet and come up with alot of unfunny things and overuse jokes like "arrow in the knee" or "rickroll", thus killing the joke immensely. And grammar nazi's don't like them because most tend to "t4lk lyk dis". Not to mention no one likes a squeaky voice blazing their headphones and/or speakers. And most 12 year olds overuse "your mom" or "retard" or "gay" since they've been freshly introduced into the word, so alot of people view them as annoying, therefore being called 12 is being called annoying/stupid/ignorant.Posted in: General Off Topic -

sk89q posted a message on [1.0.0] "Invalid server key" fixIt's Mr. Out-of-nowhere patch-for-Minecraft again. If someone hasn't posted it yet, here's a self-serve (you don't have to wait for servers to fix it) client-side fix for the "Invalid server key" error.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
If you find the fix useful, please reply with a thanks or something to keep the thread available for others to see! Thanks.
Manual installation:
Replace this file: http://www.sk89q.com/content/2011/11/abp.class
(Don't forget to delete everything inside the META-INF folder of minecraft.jar, except for the MANIFEST.MF file.)
If you really want to donate to me: http://www.sk89q.com/donate
EXPLANATION
The bug is actually caused by (another attempt...) at fixing this exploit:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/636318-181-exploit-fix-login-under-someone-else’s-minecraft-account/
It attempts to check if the server key is valid by attempting to parse the server key as a long, but there's an error that makes this fail (attempt to parse an unsigned long, causing overflow). I've changed this to a simple check to make sure that the server key is a hexadecimal number.
A bunch of moderators told me last time that my last thread kept getting reported, so check out the post I linked above (which I posted). That was moderator-approved. Oh, I also make WorldEdit, WorldGuard, CraftBook, and a few other things.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I get "java.lang.SecurityException: SHA-256 digest error for abp.class".
Delete the signature files in META-INF/ (the two files besides MANIFEST.MF). They tell Java to verify that the game files aren't modified, which is exactly what we're doing!
I get "Outdated server" instead after installing this patch.
The server you are joining is still running 1.8.1! You can't do anything about that, except to revert back to 1.8.1 (you did save it, right?).
After installing, I still get this error.
If you didn't mess up, it's because my valid key check is still a bit restrictive. I'll have to look into that if Minecraft doesn't get a fix soon (which it may). For the technical people, the current regex is ^\-?[0-9a-fA-F]+$
How do I install?
First, if you use Windows, try this installer:
http://www.sk89q.com/content/2011/11/invalid-server-key-fix-mc1.0.exe
Basically, you install it like every other mod:
- Open up the minecraft.jar file with a ZIP program, because .jar files are secretly .zip (on Windows, type %APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin in Windows Explorer to find this file, on Linux, it is in ~/.minecraft/bin, on Mac OS X I have no clue)
- Copy the downloaded abp.class file into minecraft.jar and replace the existing file.
- Go to the META-INF folder and delete everything except for MANIFEST.MF. The files you delete tell Java to make sure that Minecraft's files have not been modified, but that's what we're doing!

Fericity posted a message on To everyone complaining that this game isn't a "full release..."So they increase the price and put a 1.0.0 label on some artificial milestone in the development, 'releasing' the game while it's still largely unfinished?Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
That's not how game development works, and is almost certainly a moneygrab. -

ancient_power posted a message on A honest Minecraft reviewIf you were to read a single long, well thought-out post in this thread, I recommend you read the one I am about to type. There will be no tl;dr, so either read it or not. Don't read specific parts and treat them as if it's all I said. I may say things that are flawed, but if I do, read the whole post and THEN point them out so I may correct myself. Let's begin our adventure in deconstruction.Posted in: Discussion
First off, that video review was a satire. It means it was supposed to be a humorous bash on the game while pointing out serious issues. You are all taking the wrong parts too seriously, although the reviewer is actually serious on a lot of issues, and just uses extremeness to emphasize them.
Secondly is the validity of the statements expressed throughout the review. Almost everything the reviewer says to bash the game is absolutely true. The final release is a cluster****. Name me one other game hyped as much as Minecraft that has had such a buggy, incomplete release. It's the final version. It is no longer in alpha. It is no longer in beta. It is Minecraft 1.0, the final version of the game. The launch version. The one you've all been waiting for. And it was a huge letdown.
Being a letdown leads to my next point, which as touched upon above is the game's incompleteness. We were promised many features. They weren't added. Stop trying to deny that Notch is lazy. He might be the big man, but he's also not very good at making his own game. Every insult aimed towards him was justified in a way. If you look at it in a non-comedic light, he actually does go on vacation often. He barely does any significant work. He is lazy and should not be given as much attention as he gets. He should not be the millionaire that he is.
The direction the game is going is also something I would like to mention. It was also discussed in the video. I, too, believe that Minecraft has lost all direction and is currently on a very dark path. Notch's recent behavior has only fueled this belief even more. The game does indeed have many aspects that are boring and these aspects COULD BE IMPROVED, but they AREN'T BEING IMPROVED. What excuse do you have for this? What ****ing excuse do you have for the devs not taking advice and improving gameplay aspects? The community constantly praises the devs for listening to the community, but they rarely do anything based on popular opinion. That is complete and total garbage.
I know there's two definite ways most people will respond to this post. You will either use your mental defense mechanism and ignore all information I've presented and regard it as irrelevant, or you could also actually read it and then bash me as hard as possible with vague counterexamples. Either way it doesn't matter. I spent about fifteen minutes writing this post and it doesn't matter. Nobody is going to be convinced by me, so I'll just treat this as wasted time and sit back and watch as you morons continue to fall to stupidity and ignorance. There are ways you can improve the condition of both the game and this community, but nobody seems to care enough or realize enough to try.
Thank you for your time.
(Also I was typing this in a frenzy due to the amount of disagreement I was having, so my grammar isn't very good. Sorry for that.) -

RinOkami posted a message on Yogscast Responds To StatementTo all the people saying the Yogscast were unreasonable in asking for financial help and expecting the autograph area to be set up beforehand...Posted in: Minecraft News
In every convention I have ever even heard of, if you invite someone to do panels/autographs/etc as a Guest of Honor, you treat them like a Guest of Honor. In other words, you pay for their hotel rooms at the least and possibly help with the airfare if they're traveling from halfway across the planet, and you make sure the areas they're working in are set up beforehand, so that they can do what you brought them there to do: provide entertainment and make your convention look good. You hire grunts to do the gruntwork, not the GoH's. And you certainly do NOT sell the rights to THEIR intellectual property ahead of time without their permission, and you do NOT go posting libel on Twitter even if you're drunk.
But it should come as no surprise that Notch went and jumped in headfirst without having any idea, planning, or structure as to what he's doing, in regards to running a convention. That's kinda his modus operandi for everything, isn't it? Jump/tweet/speak first, think later? I've seen amateurs with more professionalism than him. -

▬▬▬▬▬♈▬▬▬▬▬Getting Your Request Selected☆ This is NOT first come, first serve. I will pick requests I am interested in working on first, although I will look at requests chronologically.
The list below may give you a vague idea of where your request might sit in line. ☆
-
- I might have a tendency to pick female skin requests over male skin requests, if there are any.
- I will usually make skins without armor before skins with armor.
- I will usually make human or humanoid skins over monsters, aliens, or other things.
- I might pick simpler skins over more complicated ones to save time for other skins.
- I love animated characters (various cartoons and anime).
- I accept (and admittedly like) the touchy subject of skimpy clothing (so long as it is not nudity).
- I will accept furries.
- I.
- Like.
- Purple.
☆ I will skip over a request if I can find at least one decent version that someone else has already made. ☆

It is just some TEXT to get us INSPIRED to keep PLAYING.
Seriously? Credits inspire me to STOP playing...
And yeah, 8 mins of text is a bad idea, I barely managed to make it through it. They tried to hard with it IMO. I would've been happier with a "YOU WIN! THE END! Would you like to keep playing?" Because that's the type of game MC is. - To post a comment, please login.

Gawd, what a retarded post.

Took me a while to finish, but I'm happy with it. Sorry, though... still not motivated enough to open the shop to work on requests right now.

Can't count how many threads there are about it.
3
Dunno though, we'll just have to see how it goes. Long as it's not diamond armor and tools dropping then I don't really care.
4
It'll bring us a lot. Assuming that all the talented modders are still around by the time it's released.

He's just basically saying the main component of why Minecraft has over 4 million sales is because of the multiplayer. I highly doubt Minecraft would have achieved 4 million sales if it didn't include a multiplayer. I know I wouldn't have bothered.
@threadtopic
If you like reading, then you'll prolly like this. I know I spelt probably wrong, it's just how I say it.
Yes, the game has been going downhill until Jeb took over. He seems to be kind of jumping all over the place, but at least we got some progress with the game. Minor ones, anyway... since most of it are just fixes.
If you want a much more difficult game, you're going to have to use mods. Regular Minecraft just can't compete with the amount of mods released for the game anymore. It ain't alpha or beta where there were barely any mods to start off with in the first place. People want more because they see what the mods can provide.
Everyone has to think realistically about it, though. There's no way Jeb is going to compete with mods that take full advantage and dedication to their project. Mo' Creatures is an example that adds a lot more monsters into the game. Unfortunately, it's only a single player mod. Think about that for a second. It takes about 2 months for Mojang to release 1 new monster (which happened to be a cat). It would probably take about a year or two just to add as much as Mo' Creatures does (which has over a dozen monsters). There's also a tornado mod somewhere, but I forgot where that went which seems pretty complicated and a lot more weather mods around. The Spoutcraft client can make the worlds twice as big, so mining and exploring is vast. Again, these are only for single player for the moment.
See a pattern here? None of this is for multiplayer which is the main core of Minecraft.
My point being: even if Jeb wanted to add more creatures, items, or make the worlds twice as big.... it would probably take years to implement. It took Jeb a few months just to release 1 jungle biome into the game. Not that I'm complaining, at least he's trying to do something.
In the end, who seriously is going to wait two or three years for a game to be up to par with mods? That's exactly why we need the modding API ASAP. I know none of these mod makers are going to wait that long, most of the good ones already quit and went on with other games. The community is slowly dying... unless you consider a bunch of 13 year olds on here a good community. Might as well join the Pokemon forums.
There's really no point in making threads like these or complaining. I mean, I definately think the game sucks without mods or the multiplayer but thinking realistically about it, it's impossible for Jeb to implement even 1% of these mods in a couple months.
