Servers shouldn't have anything to do with the client freezing up. What are your computer specs?

I'm pretty ignorant on computers but here goes:

    Mac OX X Version 10.6.4
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core Duo
    Memory: 2 GB 667 MHx DDR2 SDRAM

I would like to know what the best settings are for letting Minecraft run at the fastest possible speed. What should I make all the things in the option menu be set to? Minecraft has frozen my computer around twenty times today and it is very, very annoying. It was working (fairly) well with an old server I was on but as soon as I switched to a new server, it has been frequently freezing on me. I probably get a couple minutes on average before it freezes.

Is this the servers fault or my computer's fault? I'd assume computer's because the other server worked better.

    Help is very much appreciated.

This is pretty much exactly like my story except mine included a lot more pain and agony.

Haha, well did you ever find a good server?

Hello. First, let me talk a little about my minecraft multiplayer experience. The first day I tried Minecraft on mulitplayer, I joined a server and spawned in the middle of a pre-set building with signs and commands and plugins and all that stuff. I left shortly after. See, the thing is, personally I think that iConomy and all the modifications of MInecraft ruins the game.

So I decided I'd try a server that's description basically described hardcore PvP. I've been playing on that server for the last two weeks or so and have been having a lot of fun, but there are major downsides. Firstly, everyone had tons of distrust for each other. No one would let you teleport to them out of fear that they'd grief your base or steal your items. Massive distrust is simply not fun. I did manage to make a few friends on there and make a base with them, but it's hard to gain all that trust and respect that you need to do that. Also, the owner was very degligent in the way he handled his server. He claimed he was banning hackers, but my base was overrun by hackers multiple times, and he himself used hacks for his own amusement. Placing lava at the spawn was humorous to him. It just all got old eventually. Noobs killed each other at spawn and experienced players hid in their secret bases that were miles from the spawn. So what was the point? Everyone had tons of diamond and secure (except hackers) bases.

So today I went to minecraftservers.net again and looked at the list of servers. Nothing seemed to have what I wanted. I tried a few and they disappointed me, too.

Therefore, my last hope falls with this community. I'l describe what I want in a server and hopefully you or someone you know knows a server like this that I can join.

    Here's my perfect server:

    1. No hardcore griefing. No TNT/random destroying, but not insta-bans if you break a glass window.
    2. No iConomy or any of it's knock-offs. I want to enter the game and be able to get on an even-playing field fairly quickly.
    3. No hacking. Hacking is simply an unfair advantage and ruins fun.
    4. Between 10-20 people online on average. I want to be able to make an impact in the community, but not play by myself.
    5. Caring mods and admins so griefing and hacking won't happen
    6. No building rights, protected chests/doors ect. I should be able to get into someone's base if I find it.
    7. Basic commands such as setting a home, getting to the spawn, teleporting to friends, ect.
    8. Mature people around my age that aren't rude or brag.
    9. A spleef arena would be nice.
    10. Unofficial clans/groups that I could join fairly easily

Here's some stuff about me, in case a clan sees this post and wishes to recruit me:
I'm 17. I like collecting wood. I have experience in almost everything in Minecraft. It's summer, so I play about 2-4 hours a day or more. I'm in the US, but I would not mind playing with Brits. I'm a hard-worker, and I'm just simply looking for a server that would be entertaining that I could really spend a lot of time in.

Thanks for reading this if you did!

wait wtf...are you absolutely sure there is no mouse settings in the system preferences? is it a laptop or a desktop?

EDIT: i think its called "mouse and keyboard", but i don't know

    Yes, absolutely sure. Desktop.

System Preferences branches to Keyboard and Mouse. Keyboard is of no help. Mouse has two options: Tracking Speed and Double-Click Speed.

i don't use a mac, but i can help you with your second question. macs CAN right click w/o using ctrl.

go into your system preferences and go into mouse settings. by default, both the left mouse button and right mouse button are set to "primary click" aka left click. so just change the right click one to "secondary click", as i think it's worded

Thanks for your response, but I lack those options in my mouse settings. I have researched this before, and that worked on my brother's laptop but for some reason my computer does not have that option. I tried downloading an app called Double Command but it didn't work very well.

Hello, I'm new to the forum, this being my first post, and I'm also fairly new to Minecraft (week and a half), so I had a few questions. My brother bought the game and I watched him play it for a while, and I liked it so much that he let me play on his account when he wasn't using it. I'm going to buy a version of my own soon. I was wondering if and how we could play in the same world with each other (just us two). We don't have a server or anything like that, and I"m not too great with computers. So, is it possible to somehow have a private world that we two can connect to?

Secondly, I use a mac when I play, and Apple seems to hate the right click button on the mouse because there isn't one. I'm forced to do ctrl + click which is a bit annoying. I have gotten used to it, but I was wondering if anyone found any easier way to play Minecraft on a mac.

Also, while I did a quick fifteen minute glance of the forums here I noticed that there were clans, and that was quite interesting. How does one usually join these clans? What usually happens in the servers that these clans have? Do clans battle other clans? I envisioned that there would be massive player vs. player fighting, is that so? I'm very interested in learning about redstone circuits and the various mechanisms in the game, so are there any clans that would be willing to instruct me?

Thanks in advance for your help. This is an awesome game.
