posted a message on Minecon 2018 - BIOME CHOOSER POLL (AND INFO)

So three future updates are going to update each of these three biomes? I really hope the performance gets a look because it just keeps getting worse, but you miss out on a lot not to update.

I'm surprises the Savanna biome is in that list. The Taiga and Desert biomes I understand, but the Savanna isn't that old, relatively, and already has the unique feature of a unique tree and wood type, as well as terrain (and that's not even including the Savanna M biome). I'm also not sure how I feel about termites, although the new tree is nice (doubly so if it's a new wood type, speaking as a builder).

I'm not opposed to it getting an update, mind you, but I'd have rather seen some other biome get the treatment before it. Plains, Extreme Hills, and Forest biomes are some such examples. Plains, in my opinion, need to be bigger, a bit more flat, and then have some unique things added to them. They feel more like glorified hilly meadows as it is now, that people only build in because they're the flattest and most cleared of obstacles. That's not a bad thing, but I'd like to see them be more.

Mojang has the statistics on what biomes players spend the most/least time in, so I think it's likely they chose the Desert, Savannah, and the Taiga biomes because they were the three non-subbiome biomes that were frequented/lived-in as the other ones, not based on how old the biomes are.

posted a message on Minecon 2018 - BIOME CHOOSER POLL (AND INFO)

Now that we have all of the Biome Chooser videos, we can now get a better idea on what the outcome of the Minecon 2018 BIOME CHOOSER poll will be.

I would like to say that I don't really like the way the videos were presented. I would have much preferred WIP in-game mockups as opposed to a highly stylized pixel presentation.

It is so stylized from normal Minecraft that we don't actually know, for example, if the new Baobab/Palm trees are actually new wood types, or if they are simply new tree designs using existing wood. We also don't know specifics in the ideas, such as if berries will have any poison variants or if foxes can be tamed, or even if fireplaces have any actual use outside of a new form of lighting.

Hopefully before Minecon, we will get some more clarification. I'll try and update you guys if any new info comes out.

And finally, the Savanna has been unveiled, giving us termites, ostriches, and a new tree type Baobabs.

I mean, a new wood is good. But honestly it's a desert. It should be kind of barren ya?...

I'm sure it won't be too filled with palms. Perhaps they'll only spawn in the Desert Lakes sub-biome. :D

If palm trees really are on the table, this might swing my vote. I doubt we'd be getting a new tree type from either other biome.

As a builder, a new wood type would absolutely be a huge reason to vote for Desert.

Personally I'll be voting Desert. Deserts are a lot like pre-1.13 oceans-- despite having a temple and a unique mob, deserts are still one of the most visually unappealing and boring biomes in Minecraft. Things like oasis's,pyramids, interesting sub-biomes, and unique mobs like camels and scorpions can really make the desert become a great biome to settle down in, instead of the biome you go to temporarily when you need glass or some green dye.

The purpose of this poll is to get a general idea on what the results of the 2018 Minecon Biome Chooser will be.

Please discuss why you voted for a particular biome, and what you might like to see added!

Ok now that they added buried treasure and the way the coral looks AND the tropical fish seems a bit more on the "should be in a mod instead" category

People have said the same thing when pistons were added, not to mention horses, The End, polar bears, etc...
