I did, but the bugger was hiding from me! I eventually found a working backup though, so no sweat.

Thank you so much for the reply, sorry for the time-waste!

If they don't improve raids to be actually worth it by the end of the update then I'm going to be pretty upset. The flagship feature of the Village and Pillage update, pillages, are just absolutely useless to do at this point. At least if it was a random encounter the point would be 'protect your village', but raids are completely optional so

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Pumpkins and Watermelons...

(see attached BEFORE and AFTER pictures)

Why did they bother with any changes to the pumpkins?

AND WHO THOUGHT the watermelons were BETTER?!?!?!

I've seen a LOT of different melons and fruits... I've NEVER seen one like this.

To me... the new watermelon... needs to be scrapped in favor of the old texture ASAP!

You really need to stop TYPING IN CAPS RANDOMLY. It's not making any of your points any more valid. In fact, it just makes you look like an upset child in a tantrum.

At any rate, you keep yelling on how they should 'revert' all the textures and how they are all garbage. I hate to break it to you, but that's simply not going to happen at this point. The texture update is coming whether or not we want it to, so it's best to compromise and give actual constructive responses. State ways in which they could improve the current texture, or revise the new Jappa iterations to perhaps fit a bit better. For example, I do prefer the new watermelon's texture. The stripes are much more prominent and interesting and seem less 'smudged' like the old textures. However, I wish he would have retained the old dixie-queen colouration instead of a stereotypical 'watermelon' appearance. The old colour scheme was a bit more unique and fit in better with jungles, imo.

Why do they consistently stick with 16 pixel wide textures? Nearly all graphics cards can handle far beyond that without any change in performance. As for me Ill stick to the Photorealism 256 texture pack.

Er, it's pretty obvious that it's a stylistic choice...

Minecraft has and always will have a default of 16x16 because it compliments the retro, simplistic, 'blocky' aesthetic that Minecraft that it's had since its conception.

Anyway, photorealistic packs absolutely take away the magic imo and fall into an uncanny valley a lot of the time, but I suppose to each their own.

posted a message on So what do you guys think about the new 1.14 textures?

I will be the first to say that I absolutely did not like the first glimpses of the new textures we got from Jappa, but now that he's been working on them for awhile I think he's improved significantly, especially with this new version.

I really enjoy the newest plank textures. I grew to like the 3D V2, but still thought they were too glazed-looking. V3 had a really nice texture but I also felt that they looked a bit too weathered. These new ones are a perfect, perfect mixture of both.

The new crops and plants have also gone through a major improvement, especially with wheat in my opinion. No longer will we have neon-orange fields of plastic-looking wheat. Now we have a colour that is way more realistic and suited for builds. Sadly, it seems like hay blocks haven't followed suit and are still the ugly contrasting neon of yore. I especially love how the cactus now has the same colour of the green dye. Really adds some good continuity.

Obsidian is one that I can't really understand why it's been changes so much or why so many people are stomping their feet at every single texture Jappa has presented. Old obby was ugly. One of the worse building blocks in the game aside from bedrock. Every single new texture Jappa has made for them I have absolutely no problem with, especially the V1 design which looks like a block forged in lava.

One of the textures I do not like, however, is the clay brick blocks. They are one of his earliest textures he made for the game and imo it really shows. The mortar between the bricks is way too heavily shaded and it just looks cartoony and out of place.

Barrels and Lanterns are a godsend and have very nice textures.

Jappa's overall retexture is nice. It's a shame to see the original ones move on to greener pastures, and I would have much rather preferred the retexture not to have come in the first place, but since we can't do anything about it the best we can do is look on the bright side. Jappa's a good pixel artist. ^_^

The most appealing to me is the bell. Since bells in ancient time meant a certain time or drew people to events and such. Maybe they summon villagers? Or can be put on illager beasts like on cows

It is more likely that they will be used during raids to signal for villagers to go inside their homes.

If Mojang is feeling especially cruel, some of them might *only* be obtainable from villages! But I'm inclined to doubt this.

Doubt it too, but I actually wouldn't mind that being the case. We need more blocks that give us a reason to explore. Blocks that have uses, especially!

Barrels are perhaps the most interesting block out of the bunch. It's not a storage barrel, I'm sure, because it has a spigot spot on the top. So it's used for liquids.

The only think I can consider it being used for is as a cask for fermenting things. And what's something that is fermented in real life in barrels? Berries. Berries that we are getting in bushes because of the taiga overhaul.

I predict we will use barrels to make berry wine or juice.

Far fetched to some, but recreating the picture within Minecraft shows that there's no full block where the sliver of grey is located. Possibly a wall, but I'd like to think it's something a bit more fun.

Mojang has revealed some secrets within seemingly innocuous tweets. The Structure Blocks were revealed first by being hidden in a screenshot!

posted a message on Minecon 2018 - BIOME CHOOSER POLL (AND INFO)
    Quote from ScotsMiser»
    r! Hear!

The whole biome vote thing seems more and more like a PR stunt: not only are all the biomes scheduled to be updated [ <_< fiddled with ] and only the order subject to vote , the ~30 sec spots on each give so little information about the proposals that there is no way to evaluate the likely impacts of the changes/additions. What is left is a 'beauty contest' with whatever package getting the most "Aw, kute"s winning.

Additionally, based on what I have heard of last years vote, the response was nearly evenly divided [to which lesson MS/Mj seems to have adapted] and a tiny fraction of players [to which they have not].

It would be far better if each of the new features was showcases in a mock-up wiki page, published, and a month then allowed for discussion before a vote.

Further that vot ought be conducted over a reasonable period (24 hours minimum) and with enough options that a single feature that happened to be beloved of fans could not provide 'coattails', rather than during a short window and via social media.

To be fair, any of the proposed additions could be useful and a meaningful enhancement to the game, but there is simply insufficient information being released to tell.

At present each is simply slated for eventual inclusion (and to provide additional sources driving the Lag-engine) without anything but a name and a [possible] appearance for some of the additions.

How very helpful it would be if there was an option in the poll to pick;D Some of this looks promising, work up & present enough detail on these that we can sort the gold from the garbage.

    Why so pessimistic and negative?

This biome vote is a harmless and fun way to address what has been a huge problem for many players in Minecraft. All of the ideas presented here have been confirmed to being added, so I don't know why you're railing the votes so hard considering.

These are side-additions and do not have to meaningfully impact the game, but simply spruce up some of the more neglected biomes. We don't need an "entire month" to discuss these and "twenty-four hours" to vote since, again, all will be added eventually. I highly doubt adding a new palm tree to the generation, or a fox, would severely effect performance as well.
