chad_stumph! I'm diggin' the HQ you built. Perhaps you'd be interested [as might everyone else] in the server I'm about to put up tentatively, to see if it can handle the connections from MSF members, and if my computer doesn't die when people join it :tongue.gif:.
It's hosted me and my friend playing on it fantastically, but I don't know if it can handle upwards of 10 people at a time.
The IP: 24.161.0.46, normal port.
If you want me to add you to the whitelist just post on this thread or in the MSF forums.
It's running a wrapper, to make administration easier. However I haven't put any of you on the summoning list, which is why it probably won't let you summon up any blocks.
I'm actually pretty terrible at coding, but as I understand it, a few things:
1. The game loop, doing this, then this, then this, then this, then this, then restart, and it happens so fast it seems to happen at the same time. For example, check for input, move if necessary, build if necesary, check physics on the character, now do mob AI.
2. Multithreading.
This is probably all completely wrong, but this is what I have picked up. Also, you say 1 calculation at a time, but really, you're doing thousands and thousands of calculations per second.
Thousands and Thousands per second is still 1 at a time, but I DO agree with your #1 point. I didn't think of it as a loop which quickly checks if something is happening. That would explain that the game is still indeed moving 1 calculation at a time, but because of the 1000's of calculations per second, just like all programs it gives the illusion of simultaneousness...
Perhaps I'm not understanding some basic principle of coding... how do games have so many things happening at one time? Minecraft for example. You can be moving at the same time as jumping, building, the AI is moving, the sun is moving, physics are still working... all of those things and many many more happen at the same time. I don't understand how.
Any programs I've created in c++ in the past 3 years all still have to run 1 function at a time, despite how fast it might look, it's all 1 at a time. I don't know if Java is a completely different case, but even games written in c++ have this simultaneousness about them that I can't grasp... although I've never really looked into the answer to this question before... Is it specific to graphical games?
tl;dr - How do so many thing happen at once in a game program if a computer has to calculate 1 calculation at a time?
Ahh yes! I'm glad to finally see more interest in the Foundation :smile.gif:
Both of you have been activated on the forums. I'm pretty sure adm.melonhead is accepting basically anyone at the moment so you don't have to worry about not being accepted.

- I could design a whole website (when there is more needed than a forum-> HTML, CSS and PHP)
- familiar with Photoshop and graphics
- I came across many programming languages, such as java, VB...
- In general I am very interested in computers and would like to help you guys :smile.gif:
Iam very interested in researching minecraft bugs also and items you can make... also having a look on their efficiency :smile.gif:
You've got an impressive set of skills with all of those programming/web design languages you know XD! I'm sure melonhead would find a use for them, perhaps an entire MSF website [hopefully it doesn't make my puny forums obselete! :Notch:] As for item efficiency, that sounds like a wonderful topic to begin studies on. Certainly one that will get you published into the MSF library once it... well... once it exists XD.
Ahh I know sig figs, I don't want to seem ignorant. Sorry if my data was unpleasant to your eyes, but I have a fetish for sticking as many numbers as I can after a decimal :tongue.gif: it's a guilty pleasure. I could never stand memorizing digits of Pi though... that just disgusts me for some reason.
I'll start using sig figs in anything new I come up with I suppose.
We should maybe have a normal discussion thread of the forum. So we can talk about the thing to improve and just get comments on what ever one thinks of the forum
By the way! adm.melonhead, I've been posting some guidelines and rules about how to post theories and experiments on the msf forums, however since you are heading the foundation, you have the final say in just about everything, and I'll edit basically anything you wish into how you want it to be.
Yeah I have it set so that random people don't join unless I approve an email sent to me by the forum. I might remove this later, but until adm.melonhead catches wind of this I'm playing it safe. Thanks guys :smile.gif:
Edit: I've activated you 3, XenoDev, Elite, and Uniquename

Nice, Ringer.

There's inclement weather in my area, so if it goes down it's probably due to a power surge or something.
PS: Forum shows the server status as offline or online, if you check the Minecraft > Multiplayer > Server thread

That's already here :smile.gif:
As for the roleplaying category, I'm implementing a role playing board right now.

Give me a bit for it to be finished... It's a free forum though... idk if you were expecting anything else.
@Oddix: Oh I see! Sorry if I became a bit defensive... I just did not have an inclination to do what I have seen on some youtube videos...
Edit: Just adding some finishing touches.
