Apr 7, 2012It works. You could also use glass/half slabs etc.Posted in: Redstone Discussion and Mechanisms
The trick here it getting a tilable block swapper working
though you dont need to
Keep one as always a stair, and the other swaps
that will still lock it, but is much simpler

The beta has capes. Though I am not sure how to use them, as they are "gifts" from Mojang.
Unofficially, capes can be worn by any player through a variety of methods.
There are mods that allow custom capes that people who have the mod can see, and there are other options I don't endorse due to legality conflicts

Ah, so a use that may indeed actually be useful! I apologize for sounding so crass during my initial reply. The people that ask me for part pickers generally are the ones who only intend to use it for the purpose of quickly mashing together skin parts to upload and claim they made it, and I jumped to that conclusion. I hope you can forgive me. :smile.gif:
Basically, here's the way I look at it: I moderate a site which gets a hundred or so skin reports a day from people who are using programs like NovaSkin or SkinCraft, clicking a few parts and then uploading it claiming they made it. It happens a lot more often than any of us really want to believe. Personally, I believe that the implementing this feature will only cause this program to be put in the same category as these ones, essentially being tools skinners can use along with a library of "parts" to mix and match skins, facilitating stealing. Heck, the sample skins in MCSkin3D have already been uploaded to many sites; some that are way out of our control, and luckily some that actually listen to copyright (such as PlanetMinecraft) and remove the skins which are obviously copyrighted to our artist and used without permission (unedited; the license for the skins allow them to be used freely once they have been edited beyond a certain point).
While the program may never (I say may because one planned feature is plugin support, and developing a plugin for a part picker wouldn't be difficult) exactly have an official "part picker", version 1.4 has a Copy/Paste tool planned. This is probably the closest you'll get to something like a part picker, at least for the time being.
I appreciate the criticism, and it does not go unnoticed; we're careful to weigh both positives and negatives to features we skim by.
If you have any other concerns about my decision, please don't hesitate to bring them up.
I appreciate the thoughtful reply. What I wanted most out of my original post was to be able to copy and paste parts of my skins together. I really appreciate the replys. I never realized how much copying was going on! I truly feel for you. I love my work, and I just want to apologize for the harsh reply. I am now more than exited to use this program for 1.4!!!

1. Not going to happen.
2. Future version; however, we don't encourage you using "parts". This is called unoriginality. Skins posted using parts will get deleted on most sites (I'm a site moderator at PlanetMinecraft - we don't allow skins made with part pickers there). MCSkin3D's focus is originality.
Ok, so I use my base skin to make different multiplay custom maps, but you wont integrate an option for me to put my 100% original skin into different original outfits? I dont want to have to replicate all my pixels just because you don't want to. I advise you to reconsider. So far, this tool has been an amazing help, but if that is your stance, Im slightly concerned about using it in the future.
Just some constructive criticism.

Jan 8, 2012Posted in: Redstone Discussion and MechanismsNOTE: THIS GLITCH HAS BEEN PATCHED!Block Data Value ChangerDescription
Due to a neat glitch it is discovered to be possible to change the block data value in Minecraft. This affects wool, stone bricks, logs, slabs, and many other blocks. It can be used for useful things like changing the color of a block of wool or changing whether a stone brick is mossy or not.
It requires sticky pistons, a bit of redstone dust, a few redstone torches, and water.
If it doesn't work try moving it to different coordinate areas.
"Note that it's sensitive to orientation (don't rotate it) and to chunk borders (move it a bit if it doesn't work)."-Zhul
Try not to build it in the +X & +Z direction.

Now, while Mojang was thinking of the future, I was thinking a new way to improve the blocks that were already added to the game like the Glass.
Breaking glass drops nothing, but let's make it drop something, make a use of glass.
So, how does the Shattered Glass works? Well, it works the same way as Glow stones.
You break the glass, it drops shattered glass. Same way as the real life glass.
This works the same for Glass pane.
So, to craft Glass, you must have 4 shattered glass. The Crafting Recipe goes like this
:Glass:= Shattered Glass

[ ] [ ]
[ ] [ ]
And also, if you break the glass, it will drop 3 shattered glass instead of nothing.
So that's how it works!

I've been yelling this over and over at people.... People are extremely self centered whether or not they realize it. They just post on any thread that seems popular "can you make my skin for me" and whatnot without reading the rules of the skin shop. Sad and annoying.
This is my thread, I make skins because I like doing them. I opened up requests to get inspired by the public to do stuff. I don't like certian stuff though, so I made a list of stuff that I don't want to see. I'm also a very picky person when it comes to the stuff I do accept. I accept a lot of anime-ish skins and I have more fun doing them.
I absoultly hate when someone doesn't read the rules, asks why I denied there skin, or throws a tantrum to why I didn't make there skin. There are some things that are kind of on edge such as Furries and Pokemon, and I like when people ask "is this ok".
collective facepalm on behalf of the forum community and +1 for me? or something like that.... :dry.gif:
I'm really sick and tired of having only 2/10 of every 10 pages being worthy of requests. Everything else have been people crying or camo having to explain why your wrong.
I had an idea: people who are applying for forum moderators could practice shouting down noobs and post editing on your thread.... rather random thought there.
I honestly want to start a policy that "If you can't even read the goddamn rules, then get the hell out of my thread" because of all this choas.
I don't come to this skin thread to see what new requests I got, I come here now to see who's the latest user who was too lazy to read the rules in the front post.
Its not that hard.
Nov 4, 2011So as soon as I found out about Fortune and Unbreaking I knew I had to have that on a Diamond Pickaxe. So I set out to find out how to get that. I heard someone say he got it at exactly level 40. So I started to grind out XP. Went out at night, killed mass mobs, this was still slow, and I even died a few times. Determined to find the best way to get the fastest XP, I spent many hours finding a Skeleton/Zombie spawner. Finally I found the Skeleton spawner (perfect), then built the very efficient and effective grinder from this video (). It still took MANY hours killing the mobs and collecting the XP. I've invested like a day getting to level 40 so I could get this enchant.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
My question is: How random is the Enchanting system? I'd like to have a little more info than what the wiki tells me before I spend my XP levels.
Oct 26, 2011zomb13_2 posted a message on Automatic Bonemeal-to-Wheat Factory (and tree farm)This is a fast way to turn bonemeal into wheat without tedious clicking and scrolling. Just hold down the right mouse button and all the work is done automatically. It produces about 100 wheat/minute, which is difficult to do manually.Posted in: Redstone Discussion and Mechanisms
(sorry about the video, first attempt)
The tree farm is not 100% reliable yet.
The wheat factory uses bud switches to detect when seeds and bonemeal are placed, and dispenses seeds or bonemeal into the empty slot in the inventory. The wheat is harvested by blocking the light source and updating the block behind it.
It might be possible to get more than 100 wheat/minute with a more complicated dispensing system, since there is a 2-tick delay between powering a dispenser and dispensing an item.
edit: The world name is mixed up but it's the right save.
Sep 21, 2011Posted in: SuggestionsTools, Weapons, Armour, Ranging & Combat Overhaul
I recently read a thread on these forums about how right now the system for tools, weapons and armour is out of balance. One of their key points was; once you’ve got diamond items you’ve basically finished the game. This really got me thinking and I realized how right this person was. Diamond isn’t that hard to get and once you’ve got it you can easily get more and nothing is a challenge anymore.
Upon thinking about how ti improve tools, weapons and armour I also got some ideas for improving combat and ranged which were inspired by the way I've redesigned tools, weapons and armour. I’ve put quite a lot of thought into this and I’ve tried to rethink everything in a way that would make Minecraft far more interesting and would continually give players something to do. I’m also hoping that these ideas will make combat a little more challenging and rewarding.
My idea involves many new tools, weapons and armour as well as a tier system to make existing weapons far more powerful and unique if you have the requirements to do so. I've also written about a ranging upgrade which includes a few new bows and many new kinds of arrows. In the final section of this thread I’ve also described an idea to make combat a little more interesting and challenging.
Once you've read this thread please post any feedback you want to give on this idea and vote on the poll. If you haven't read this thread first please don't bother voting of commenting your feedback.

Section 1 – TiersNOW BEING ADDED TO THE GAME! :biggrin.gif:
Section 2 – Soul Fragments & Soul Items
Section 3 – Rare Items
Section 4 – Ranging Rework
Section 5 – Damage Spots
EDIT: Notch is now adding a new system called 'Enchantment'. It is basically the same as my idea but with a few things tweaked. It features a similar tier system but only contains three tiers instead of the five that I suggested. Also, instead of using an 'Obelisk' you just need an 'Enchantment Table'. I'm not sure if Notch read this idea or not, but I'm glad he's finally adding something like this to the game. :tongue.gif:
Section 1 – Tiers (BACK TO TOP)Many games now have some kind of ‘tier’ system for their tools, weapons and armour. If you don’t know what a ‘tier’ system is it’s basically a ranking going from lowest to highest based on the effectiveness of the item (last long, more effective, higher requirements, etc).
To upgrade your tools, weapons and armour you will need to find an obelisk. An obelisk would be a small structure which spawns randomly throughout the world. The structure would be one block wide/deep and two blocks high. The blocks will be made out of would be a new block which would look something like this;
That’s just a rough image but basically it will be a light grey block with tiny blue specs on it and it would give out a faint blue glow. The obelisk blocks will be similar to bedrock in the fact that you can’t mine them. This is in place so people don’t rake the obelisk with them wherever they go.
The obelisk would be used as a new system for upgrading your weapons, tools and armour through 5 tiers. You can upgrade the tiers by imbuing 'Ender Pearls' into your item via the obelisk. Each tool, weapon and armour begins at tier 1 from when you first receive the item. To upgrade through the tiers you will need the following amounts of Ender Pearls;
- Tier 1 - Standard
- Tier 2 - 5 Ender Pearls
- Tier 3 - 10 Ender Pearls
- Tier 4 - 20 Ender Pearls
- Tier 5 - 50 Ender Pearls
Section 2 – Soul Fragments & Soul Items (BACK TO TOP)Soul items are items which are earned not by mining, but by fighting and killing monsters. Upon killing a monster you’ll have a 1/50 chance of them dropping a soul fragment, essentially part of their soul. You can then turn the soul fragments into soul items (tools, weapons and armour) the same way you would with any other kinds of tools, weapons and armour.
To create the following items you will need the following amounts of soul fragments:
- Soul Helmet – x5 Soul Fragments
- Soul Chestplate – x8 Soul Fragments
- Soul Leggings – x7 Soul Fragments
- Soul Boots – x4 Soul Fragments
- Soul Sword – x2 Soul Fragments
- Soul Pickaxe – x3 Soul Fragments
- Soul Axe – x3 Soul Fragments
- Soul Hoe – x2 Soul Fragments
- Soul Shovel – x1 Soul Fragments
- Soul Arrow – x1 Soul Fragments (SEE SECTION 4)
Right now in Minecraft the only way to make tools, weapons and armour is to mine. Once you have a diamond pickaxe you can easily get more diamond items. Soul items would introduce a new way to obtain tools, weapons and armour and would make combat far more rewarding. With the soul tools as well I would suggest that they allow us to mine extra blocks and ores that diamond tools wouldn’t be able to mine.
Section 3 – Rare Items (BACK TO TOP)Rare items are tools, weapons and armour that you cannot obtain by creating them. The only way to obtain these items would be to rarely find them in stronghold and dungeon chests or by defeating boss monsters and obtaining them as a rare drop.
These items would be far more effective than diamond items and soul items but would be extremely hard to obtain as you would have to go searching for long periods of time to finally find one of them. Once you find these items though it would be worth the effort as they are extremely powerful.
Section 4 – Ranging Rework (BACK TO TOP)Although ranging is the second form of combat in Minecraft it is so much more useless than melee. Barely anybody in Minecraft uses a bow and arrows as their first weapon of choice and I don’t think that’s fair as it should be able to combat melee equally or at least stand a chance.
Basically what I’m thinking is that we need a bigger range of ranging equipment. This includes three kinds of bows and seven kinds of arrows. The new bows and arrows are as following:
- Wooden Bow
- Redwood Bow
- Birchwood Bow
- Flint Arrow
- Wooden Arrow
- Stone Arrow
- Iron Arrow
- Gold Arrow
- Diamond Arrow
- Soul Arrow
To fire flint, wood and stone arrows you would only need a wooden bow. To shoot arrows up to gold arrows you will need a redwood bow. To shoot arrows up to soul arrows you will need a birchwood bow. The reason you will need better bows to fire different arrows is to make ranging a little more interesting and unique.
The final thing would like to suggest for the ranging rework is the ability to attach a torch to your bow so that when you fire arrows it catches them on fire and creates a flaming arrow. I’m not sure whether this would do extra damage to the monster or not but if it did I’d say it shouldn’t be any more than an extra +5% of damage.
I also think you should be able to upgrade your arrows a little to add extra abilities:
- Fire Arrow - Has a 1/5 chance of catching an enemy on fire and dealing periodic damage. - Use a 'Flint & Steel' on any kind of arrow to upgrade it to a 'Fire Arrow'.
- Ice Arrow - Slows down your enemies movement and makes their attacks a 33% less effective. - Use a 'Snowball' on any kind of arrow to upgrade it to an 'Ice Arrow'.
- Sticky Arrow - Completely stops the enemy from moving and attacking for 5 - 10 seconds. Has a 1/20 chance of poisoning the enemy. Place a 'Slimeball' on any kind of arrow to update it to a 'Sticky Arrow'.
Section 5 – Damage Spots (BACK TO TOP)Right now in Minecraft when you hit a monster it does the same amount of damage wherever you hit them. I think that when you’re fighting a monster there should be zones on them that will allow you to do extra damage.
- Top of the head: +20% Damage
- Back of the head: +10% Damage
- Sides/front of the head: +7% Damage
- Back of the body: +5% Damage
Damage spots would make combat a lot more realistic and challenging but also far more enjoyable than it is right now. It would also rid of the current system where everybody just ‘spam clicks’ the monster or their opponent which in my opinion is extremely basic and boring.
I’ve constructed these ideas to try and make tools, weapons, armour and combat a little more challenging, rewarding and enjoyable so that when people are playing Mincraft they don’t just ‘finish the game’ after getting diamond items.
Anyway, I’d love to hear all of your feedback so I can do my best to improve and perfect these suggestions. Thanks for reading and I hoped you enjoyed hearing about all of my ideas! :biggrin.gif:
