posted a message on Mojang in the final TWO! Can we beat Bioware?
    Quote from itamarcu »
    Voted Mojang.
    3 reasons:
-Valve haven't made a single good thing since TF2 (and I only vote for the last year's work, since Valve already won this contest twice)
-Mojang is a small indie company. Winning this will make them WAY more famous, and hopefully that would speed notch up a bit. on the other hand, Valve is already famous.
-Valve HAVEN'T FINISHED PORTAL 2 YET.

    Flame all you want.
BTW, how can I know how many votes every side has? or is it a secret?

Valve hasn't finished Portal 2.. Mojang hasn't even finished Minecraft. Also to a previous point saying Valve has only released Alien Swarm the last year, Mojang, again, hasn't released anything.

So how is Mojang considered a top developer? Well it certainly isn't due to anything beside the game that's still in beta, because that's all they're working on. It could be due to the creativity of Minecraft, which is, again, brilliant. However, remember this game is currently in beta, and things change. A released product is ALL that matters in the world, in any aspect. There are games that have been considerably better in their beta versions that flop in their releases. It can't be due to their story-telling, because its non-existant. Although its not a bad thing, it's one thing that's missing. It can't be due to customer service, because it goes as far as directly emailing Notch or an employee himself. It can't be due to their responses to bugs, because its still in beta and there are still plenty of bugs to be worked out.

This is the problem with voting Mojang. Many things are missing not only in Minecraft, but in their company (which, by the way, is what's being voted on). Valve is a leader in just about all the things I've mentioned. The only thing that Mojang has over Valve is Mojang has the benefit of the doubt. No one knows how long Mojang will last, how successful they will be, so they overstate based on how much they *love* Minecraft. Minecraft should only be a part of the decision.

Consider Mojang the company, and what they have done as a company, first. The company hasn't even been around for a year yet. Sorry, but the only reason why Mojang is winning is because of Minecraft and its playerbase, not because Mojang is a good company. Valve has done so much for the PC community people don't realize, with Steam especially, in addition to creating some of the very best and most popular games created. Everything they make is fun, has a lot of character, and polished. Mojang has done nothing final as a company yet, and should be voted as such.

So please, when voting, consider this question: What has Mojang done in their existence, and what has Valve done in their existence? Base your answer on that.

I guess I'm atheist or whatever. I don't really know what's going on, and I don't care. I'm just going to live my life, simple as that. I guess god and Jesus and all that is possible, I just haven't looked into it much. It seems a bit fantastical to me. I usually just rely on logic, I don't see faith as a real positive attribute to have.

I'd consider you slightly more agnostic if you simply don't care at all, but I'm not really sure. Maybe there's a word for that.

If you don't care, it means your apathetic. It's different from atheism. So I guess he could just say he's apathetic towards religion, meaning you don't care either way if there is a God or not, and are not interested in it at all, which is a perfectly reasonable stance in my opinion, seeing as its likely we'll never know with 100% complete certainty if there is a God.

I'm an atheist, and when people ask why, I just tell them there's really no real reason to be anything other than an atheist. There is no proof of God or any supreme being, so why even bother believing? If all the history is taken from our minds, if we were all just now presented with the notion of a God, how many people here would actually buy into it? Fewer than there are now, I'm almost sure of. I'm not saying that there isn't a possibility of a God, I'll never say that because its impossible to prove there isn't a God, in the same way it isn't possible to prove that invisible pink unicorns exist on the other side of the Moon. Until sufficient evidence is presented in favor of there being a God, the natural stance on the subject of God is that there is none, and that is where I sit.

One of my biggest gripes of religion is the lack of scrutiny it gets. I could run around saying a meteor is falling tomorrow into the Atlantic Ocean, and the first thing anyone would ask me is show some proof. Lacking proof, I'm laughed at and ignored. However when it comes to religion, it just seems to be accepted and respected, rather than laughed at and ridiculed, and put under the same scrutiny as other claims. Why the double standard? Well it really comes down to the history of religion and the emotional association with religion, which is all I've ever viewed it as.

The worst part about this is that religion has power, and a lot of it in today's world. Things can be done, otherwise illegal in some countries, because respect must be given to religious texts and prophets, when in reality, there really is not any solid proof to back the claims of the texts and prophets. However, they're treated as though there is, and are given a free pass. Politicians in first world countries bend over backwards to appease and respect religions, probably due to fear of certain extremists, but most importantly because no one wants to be known as the "dirty atheist" type that the public hate for whatever reason.

I really don't mind if people are religious, just like I don't care if people are homosexual. I do, however, care when it becomes a problem; when it has power, when it intrudes my life, and the lives of others, when powerful people's beliefs, rituals, and rules are pressed on other, even if there is no justification for it. You can believe whatever you want, and so can I, but when belief is considered truth and when powerful people use belief rather than proof to advance their agendas, then there are problems.

If you want to believe in a God, fine, I don't really mind. But until sufficient evidence is provided to back up religious claims, actions/rules/ideas based on religious phenomena and text should never be tolerated, and should be put under the same ridicule as any other action/rule/idea.

oh yeah i also skip redstone

but to me it just seems that diamond costs more than what you earn with it so until it has a more cost effective use im not going to **** bricks about it

and i only skip coal if i have 64 in my invintory and never put any in chests

I'm gonna have to disagree with you, at the very least with diamond swords.

I have yet to lose a diamond sword due to it degrading. I always die with it on me, and it kills enemy mobs in two hits, and most of the time one diamond vein is all you need to craft one sword that will last you awhile and kill mobs more easily.

I'd also say that pickaxes are worth it to make, but I can somewhat see your point there. Then again, it is free diamond, its not like it takes awhile to make items with it or to mine it. No point in not mining it in my opinion.

EDIT: Nevermind about the sword. I still see the use in diamond if you're not looking for it, as a poster above me mentioned, and if its sitting there in front of your face, its not terribly wasteful to mine it and craft yourself a pickaxe that lasts 10 times as long as an iron one. That's a waste of iron if you look at it from that perspective.

I skip coal on occasion. I wish it had a greater use than just to use to smelt things, craft torches and run mine carts for four minutes. I have tons of coal just sitting in my coal chest. I'd like it if minecarts worked like furnaces do, put lots of coal in, then let it rip, though it might be difficult then to make it move and stop without messing up the controls a bit...

I also leave Redstone sometimes. In SMP I probably won't because Redstone will have much more use there (traps and such). Everything else I mine.

Build a stone path to from the spawn point to your bases. Or build beacons on top of mountains with torches on then to light your way home. What I do is build beacons (tall and cheap structures with one torch at the top), then put more stones on the sides of the beacon to direct which way home is. I haven't gotten lost in a few months because of this. Always build beacons within another beacon's viewing distance. This way, you'll never get lost.

Setting respawn points is a bad idea. You'll almost never lose anything if this were implemented because you could just set your respawn point to the cave your spelunking or on the bridge your building. If you really don't want to die, set it to Peaceful.

You always spawn in the same area, so its not a random place.

You can't harvest iron ore with a wooden pick axe. You need a stone pick axe.

posted a message on What're your motivations on SMP?
I'm going to try to be a rogue like character.. Stealing, perhaps pillaging at times, living off sight probably with my brothers and friends.

If that doesn't work, I'll probably be nomadic, constantly moving from place to place.
