Noob question: How do I get more food?

No animals appear to be spawning, I can't find any tall grass to get wheat seeds from, mushrooms are finite, and no zombies or spiders appear to be spawning inside the caves I find. What do I do to get more food?

posted a message on what happened when you first dug straight down?
    Quote from Apotheophobic

I found a strange black rock that I believed was obsidian. Later with a diamond pickaxe, I left a weight on my mouse and was very confused that 30 minutes later still nothing had happened.

    Did it look like this?

EDIT: Why won't the img tags work??

Spiffy, thanks for all the fast responses. I'm not sure if I'll buy yet, but I probably will over Winter Break if not today or tomorrow. There's no monthly fee for minecraft, right?

The reason I have so many minerals is because I skipped building a "house"... nightfall always came before I got anywhere near finished with a structure, so I just tunneled into the ground and dug stairs... and wound up finding a cave XD. I almost got lost, but the cobblestones I placed in a few places helped me find my starting point (they stand out surprisingly well).

(Oh, and I also forgot to mention I found some black wool, from a (rare) black sheep. Will the color of the wool change anything?)

Hey, I've just recently downloaded a demo version of minecraft that lets me play for 100 minutes. I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy the full game at the moment ($28, right?).
Currently, I have 29 iron ingots, 4 gold ingots, 22 lapis lazulis, and more coal than I will use any time soon (more than two stacks). Is this good enough to start the game with, or should I try again? (I have about 10 more minutes, but it's unlikely that I will find anything of note within that given that I just returned to base after exploring a mildly vast cavern.)

I'm interested in multiplayer games, but I have no idea how they would work. I understand that someone has to invite you to join their server, but after that I'm unsure as to how multiplayer functions. In Multiplayer Survive Servers, will other players try to murder you, do players team up and murder each other, or do players simply fight the monsters and hang out when they see each other? (I'd be particularly interested in player v player battles and/or having players blown up by traps.)

Also, random question: Is it possible to run out of certain kinds of block? For example, could one feasibly run out of even stuff like dirt and sand provided enough of it was thrown away or blown up with TNT?

I notice that the interface says I can make 10 more posts today. Is this limit constant, or is it only set up for newbies to prevent spambot attacks?

Are items kept between worlds, or do you start anew each time you start a new world or join a new server?
