So like, I want to make this my server texturepack, but I can't figure out how to do it because the adfly link doesn't work when setting the server texturepack. I really don't want to deprive you of clicks by hosting the texturepack elsewhere, but I have no idea what else would work.
What is the proper method to have this texturepack set in the server properties as the server's texturepack?

posted a message on Good Grand Opening Events?
I've found that I'm not quite as close to opening my server as I previously thought, and development has been delayed. However, I figure that since I'll have some time to think about things and prepare, I may as well make the best of it.

I'm thinking that the server would make a bigger splash if I have some sort of opening event that would give new players something to do and offer a chance for everyone to get to know each other. However, I have the creativity of a log, so I don't have much confidence in my ability to come up with such an event singlehandedly. So I ask on the forums:

What sort of things make good events? Pvp competitions, environment challenges, group quests, minigames, scavenger hunts, teamwork exercises, other?
Should the activities be competitive, or cooperative? Individual or collective?
Should I give the victor(s) tangible rewards, such as useful items or currency, or should their prizes be prestige or vanity features?

posted a message on Obsidian Generators - Legitimate Industry or Game-breaking Bug?
I'm trying to decide whether or not I should ban obsidian generators on my server.

On one hand, they obviously make obtaining large quantities of obsidian much easier than would naturally be possible, decreasing the price of obsidian and causing a reduction in the demand for goods such as tnt. This could be either a positive or a negative change, depending on what a particular admin thinks that the distribution of prices should be.

Additionally, barring mods, obsidian generators are the closest things to industrial factories that Minecraft has to offer. Since most goods in Minecraft are produced either by agriculture, mineral extraction, or hunting, this is an important trait of obsidian generators, as it allows for productive activity that is labor-intensive rather than land/resource-intensive. It is also stationary and thus encourages urbanized settlement rather than nomadic roaming, similarly to agriculture, but unlike agriculture it relies on capital rather than land, which is helpful to players when land is relatively limited for various reasons (ie, either population growth or server limits on how much land can be protected).

On the other hand, given the rather low cost of obsidian generation (modern obsidian generators use string), this may lead to a glut in the obsidian market as supply can vastly outpace demand if either too many people see obsidian as an easy-moneymaking opportunity or too few consumers wish to purchase it. Alternatively, if the server supports some sort of price floor or guaranteed source of demand (ie, a global shop plugin that has an unlimited supply of money with which to buy an unlimited amount of items), as some servers do as a way of ensuring a steady growth of the money supply, the result could be rampant inflation as players seek to sell overpriced obsidian to server, both expanding the money supply beyond desirable levels and diverting labor from more productive activity. There is also the possibility that tnt demand will fall below acceptable levels should obsidian bunkers become incredibly commonplace, although this can be mitigated with plugins (such as ObsidianDestroyer).

What has your experience been with generators on your server? If you decided to ban them, did you have to enforce the ban manually, or were you able to find a way to prevent the generators from working?

Ok, I try and work off that. How's this:

    ὡς Aδίκιστa, everyone!
The server is currently in development, approximately in alpha. We feel that the best way to squash potential bugs is to have players come on and play normally. So far, things have gone pretty well. The bulk of the features of the server itself are done or close to being done, but we would like to get started on building the server community. So get out there, try it out, and let me know about any suggestions you might have!

    Server IP: directorate.asuscomm.com

    Brief Overview
Adikista is based on player interaction, both player vs player and player with player. As the players, you form your own nations with Towny, and from there your path is your own – you can create your own currency, trade with other nations, attack other nations, sign treaties, make friends, and make empries. You can also join existing nations, including the three initial nations we have. More information on them can be found at our forums, and their representatives will probably meet you as you join the server.

    Warning:
Adikista is substantially more difficult than your typical Minecraft server. This difficulty not only makes the server more challenging and interesting, but also helps to encourage teamwork. I recommend checking out the tutorials here: http://adikista.free...o-know-f28.html
We are still working on adding all of the tutorials, but most of the ones essential for starting out are present. I particularly recommend reading the threads in the section on Survival and General Necessary Information.

    Rules:
We feel that our rules are relatively easy to understand and follow. Let us know if there is any confusion.
    Gameplay:
1.) Do not attempt to cheat. Report bugs to a staff remember rather than taking advantage of them.
a.) Cobblestone generators are fine. Obsidian generators are not (they also do not work anymore anyway).
b.) Monster farms are not fine. We have a plugin that should prevent them from being made; do not attempt to bypass it.
2.) Do not attempt to circumvent protection plugins such as Worldguard or Towny. If something is unprotected that shouldn't be or vice versa, report it to a staff member.
3.) Refrain from spawn camping other players.
a.) If you are sieging a town, you may camp the spawn for as long as the siege lasts, since it is part of a coordinated war strategy. The rule is meant to protect newbies and weaker players from being camped out of spite.
4.) Admins are allowed to have sockpuppet characters to play the game with. They are NOT allowed to use their admin character or any other admin-related abilities to give an advantage to their sockpuppets (or themselves).

    Communication:
1.) Do not spam. You know what spam is.
a.) In general, avoid chatting messages in quick succession or repeating the same message multiple times (people shouting out trade requests are exempted from the latter, within reason).
b.) Spam is generally decided at admin/moderator discretion.
2.) In general, the admins will not discriminate against political statements, even stupid ones. If someone's racist, homophobic, sexist, etc remark offends you, the appropriate response is to hunt them down and beat the living daylights out of them (in the game).
a.) This also applies to personal insults and the like.
b.) If someone's statements are genuinely disruptive to the community, they will be treated as spam and punished.
3.) Use each chat channel for its intended purpose. Looking-for-trade messages belong in Market, talking to your neighbors belongs in Local, asking admins for help belongs in Help, general chat that isn't specific to your nation/party/etc belongs in Global, etc.
4.) Do not attempt to impersonate staff.
    News:
Various news updates will go here. Major ones will probably also be posted onto the thread. This will include both political news (ie, if the Principality of Alpoko attacks the Dominion of Mycilind) and server updates (ie, we install a new plugin that I think people will care about or remove one that's been causing problems).

I'm not monsterfish but Im sure that mean you can use it as your server pack but you have to ask before you edit and redistribute it for your server.

So I only need to specifically ask if I'm editing the pack?

In that case, is it possible to have more than one server texturepack? There's some additional textures I'd like to add (they don't edit anything with Conquest), would I need to ask permission to add those onto the pack if I had to combine the two to make both sets of textures my server texture pack, or is that fine as long as I don't alter Conquests' original material?

Hey, I'm sorry since this has probably been asked before, but I was wondering, are we allowed to use this as a server texturepack?

(The FAQ says I should ask for permission before using a pack as a server texture pack. I thought it was kind of strange that someone would put their pack out for the public but then not want it to be used as a server pack, but I figured I'd go the safe and polite route and ask.)

I'm almost ready to release my server to the public, but I'm not sure what to say in my opening post in the Servers section. What kind of information are people interested in when they're looking to join a new server?

I just feel like something important is missing, though. Or maybe it's just something with my tone, perhaps I'm too informal? Knowing me, it'll probably be something that'll look glaringly obvious once someone points out the deficiency...

    Anyhow, thanks for the advice.

    Quote from StealthBravo

Yes, you'll need to get an actual hacked client.

Regarding ghosts, unless Death & Rebirth allows you to give players specific permission nodes while in ghost form, you would need some custom coding done.

Are you allowed to link me to one on these forums? Apparently there's a LOT of hacked clients going around, and I'm not sure which one to use or which websites are safe (these are the kinds of things that come with viruses, I hear).

Ghosts should be fine. DaR specifically can't give you a permission node while in ghost form, but since I can use VariableTriggers to detect when people die and when people enter the command to revive, I can work around it that way.

Ok, I had considered that, although I didn't think that Death & Rebirth would avoid NCP since it doesn't mention it anywhere on its devbukkit page. My plan was just to give ghosts the permission node to bypass NCP.
How do I test the antifly mechanism? Do I need to get an actual hacked client to make sure it doesn't work?

posted a message on Noob Problem: How do I set up NoCheatPlus?
I'm somewhat paranoid about people coming onto my server with hacked clients, so I'm attempting to install NoCheatPlus.

However, it doesn't seem to be working... Right now I'm trying to test the survivalfly mechanism. It should be preventing me from flying in survival mode. However, I've blatantly flied around in survival mode (as a non-OP and without perms), both with the /fly command and as a ghost in Death & Rebirth (I want to make it so that ghosts CAN fly, hence why I'm using NoCheatPlus rather than the anti-fly built into the server, but right now I'm just testing NoCheatPlus), and NoCheatPlus has barely noticed.

I'm pretty sure it's not a mistake that I made in the config, since I've left it on its default settings. What changes do I need to make to the default setup to make survivalfly do its job?

posted a message on Why are technical blocks being removed?
    Quote from Enosphorous

Actually, 'technical' block IDs are not any different than normal block IDs. They are simply blocks that cannot be obtained legitimately. For example, the lit redstone lamp. It is a valid block, but cannot be obtained.

I think it's great that Mojang is removing these blocks - the game will then use up less block IDs. I don't see any problem with Mojang's removal of these, unless a server or map uses these technical blocks anywhere.

That's my point - a few servers out there DO use technical blocks, and there was no real reason to remove them. In addition to the example Lolumad provided, pumpkin stems were the narcotic of choice on my server, and I also had a plan to make a texture pack that would retexture some of the technical blocks to use them as guns. I won't be able to do that now thanks to this update.

EDIT: I just talked with some Bukkit people. Apparently, not only can you no longer /give the technical blocks, even if you manage to get one in your inventory through something like NBTeditor or MCedit, it will crash your client. So yeah, technical blocks are definitely gone.

Because if they don't, it's going to be a huge mess when they change the way blocks and items are identified for the Plugin API.

Why would they change this? The current method of identifying items is so much better than the one I keep hearing about. It's much easier to look up the item IDs rather than trying to remember all the block names and type them out.

I don't understand why they can't just move the technical blocks somewhere else if they're posing that much of a problem. Pumpkin stems were a traditional element of my old server's culture and now they're just gone because someone didn't think they were necessary.

So apparently, Mojang is going to be removing almost all of the technical block IDs in 1.7. Overall I like the 1.7 update, but I'm fairly irritated by this seemingly unnecessary change.

What is the benefit of them doing this?

posted a message on To everyone who doesn't like horses:
This is a completely invalid argument. These features are NOT optional because other people on any given server can still use them, unless someone bothers to make a plugin to disable the feature. Someone, somewhere, is going to have their server's economy or pvp balance or what have you messed up by this, and that problem will not go away just by one person ignoring it as the other players trample him to death under their hooves.

That being said, I like the horse update. :)

How do I "audit the code" for non-major plugins? Does this require being able to read and understand the code? I took a couple semesters of Java a long time ago, but probably not enough to be useful for something like this. Also, what if the plugin isn't open-source?
