I see things a bit differently about Minecraft being unplayable now, especially the legacy versions. I think it's still a blast to play, and the updates add some cool new stuff to explore. It's all about how you like to play, really.

Princess_Garnet posted a message on [1.18+] Pretty massive caves near spawnPosted in: SeedsAs in, pretty and massive!
I'm not going to say "biggest ever" because "there's always a bigger fish". But I am going to say "possibly the biggest I've seen".
Seed is 118423390553290643 and I am showing this from version 1.20.1, though this should largely work for 1.18 and above. Terrain generation is mostly the same so 1.19 will just lack cherry grove biomes (none in the area) and 1.18 will lack the deep dark (ditto, so for those who dislike them, this cave is free of them).
If you want a readily accessible massive cave at spawn to jump right into risky end-game caving, this one is good. The above ground isn't too exceptional though, at least by my measure. It's largely various forests, and I saw a village (taiga I think) and pillager outpost right near spawn, but I'm not sure there's much else going on. I didn't explore too far beyond spawn though so I don't know what lays further.
This focuses on the so-called "swiss cheese" style large caverns, especially the main and largest one, but there's a lot of smaller and "normal" caves interconnecting and around the area too. I raised the render distance up a bit to 20 and there's still quite a bit of visible fog sometimes when looking from one end to the other. I've typically only seen seen fog at a render distance of 16 underground to very minor extents and usually in edge cases when ancient cities were involved. But this one is massive.
Unmined maps spliced at layer 0 (meaning, showing layer -64 to 0 and not showing the additional caves from 0 to surface level, the reason being they'd hide the main focus quite a bit). The three circled areas are the very connected three big areas shown in the video.
A zoomed out one showing there's more significant areas nearby, but the one I'm showing seems to by far be the most significant.
I checked the one to the South and it's not too tall so it's not as impressive as the map makes it look (but it's still nice). I didn't check the ones to the North, East, or Southwest though. The latter one appears to be lush caves.
Pictures.

lisabit posted a message on Quick Refence Pages for Mobs and PlantsPosted in: Creative ModeI made a quick refence pages for animals, mobs and villagers... but I'm not really sure I have them all.
Please let me know if I missed any.
https://lisabitslegends.x10.mx/Blog-MCAnimals.html
I'm not counting ones I can't access at all times... like April Fools ones that are only on one version of the game.
I'm also working on one for plants, which hopefully I'll have the full page up tonight. It's only missing images.

Hopefully they will load... they're on my personal webpage.

mowse98 posted a message on [CTM, 1.16+] The Distant Lands, a CTM Map SeriesPosted in: MapsWelcome to the Distant Lands, a series of Complete the Monument maps designed for those new or returning to the genre, or to provide a classic experience to veterans!
Come and check out the CTM Repository for more maps like these or join the CTM Discord to chat with myself and other amazing mapmakers, players and content creators. It's the best place to be to play maps or learn how to make your own!
My difficulty scale:
I balance around what I find to be enjoyable, which tends to involve a bit of resource gathering, a little bit of death, and a lot of loot to combat all the hazards and traps you'll find. The best way to phrase my difficulty rating is "how easy is it to complete without dying".
Relaxed - Enjoyable challenge for less experienced players. A step up from vanilla minecraft.
Moderate - Designed for newer or returning players looking for a challenge! Expect to find good loot to combat the tough environments and encounters.
Difficult - Don't be reckless. Careful play and strategy will be needed to get through this environment.Brutal - You'll die a lot. It's part of the process. These maps are difficult.
NOTE: Use a Vanilla server if you're playing any maps in multiplayer. Spigot servers sometimes interpret dimension files incorrectly, so manual adjustment of the nether and end files in the server may be needed. Play in the intended version of minecraft to avoid bugs.1. Nether Breached Caverns
Ender Pelagic, a research facility researching interdimensional travel, had witnessed a disaster. Their Nether experiment had gone wrong, and now the subterranean caves have been opened up. With the dimensional link broken, going down into the caverns seems like the only promise of escape...

Zeno410 posted a message on Return to Minecraft JournalPosted in: Survival ModeEpisode 0a: The Return
I quit Minecraft about 6 years ago because of some computer overuse injuries. Yes, Minecraft was a major contributor. By the time I was recovered enough to be able to play Minecraft. there were other demands on my time so I just left it aside. I could have still done modding, but without being able to play the motivation was totally gone. Plus, of course, people change over time, along with their interests. I'm not really Zeno410 anymore - more like Zeno410 plus 10.
However, right now I'm largely confined to the couch for a few days to weeks due to some knee surgery so I installed Minecraft to have a go at it. I'm going to write about a few brief worlds and then do a journal of sorts on a 1.12 modded world (I'll talk about that choice later).
"Why a journal?" I hear you ask. "There are very few users on the forums anymore and nobody does journals now." Well, yeah. Probably almost nobody will read this. But -
A long time ago, (in what now seems like a faraway galaxy) I told somebody here to journal for yourself, because someday in the future you'll look at your old adventures and enjoy. And, oh boy, that is *SOOOOOOO* true. I had some downtime visiting family recently and went through the journals I wrote when I was active here and I had a BLAST. It brought back all the excitement, the satisfaction, the amazement, and the ironies from (sometimes) almost a decade ago. And, in the process, I realized from some offhand comments I made that there were other worlds I had almost completely forgotten, now existing only in those offhand comments. I remember just snippets from earlier worlds and sometimes I don't even remember which went together. So the journal worlds live on in my head, entertaining and inspiring me, while the non-journaled worlds are "Gone with the End" and might as well have never happened.
So that's why I'm journaling. For me - or more precisely, the me of the the future, Zeno410 plus 20, who hopefully will enjoy this as much as I have Zeno410's journals. Anybody who wants to follow along, welcome! I hope you enjoy it too, and maybe get inspired to write, record, or whatever for *your* plus 10 someday. But even if nobody does, that's fine, because we Zenos-of-different-times are going to stick together. -

UnloadedChunk posted a message on Ban MCreator mods?Posted in: Forum Discussion & InfoWell,
I see this quite often in here, the flood of crappy MCreator mods.
For those not familiar with it, MCeator is a graphical program where every damn n00b can make his own (super bugged) mod, without typing a single line of java(or anything else). That isnt bad by nature(except the code beig output being quite poor quality, using deprecated/wrong/bad ways of doing things), rather the lots of n00bs that can use it.
That results in alot of uncreative "super-common-ore->ingot/gem/whatever->super-overpowered-weapon" mods.
That in turn makes it hard to find good mods, mods that do things never seen before (or just doing nice things diffrent then something else).
I'm not saying MCreator mods are bad in general, but that there are lots of crappy ones.
Over on PMC, they have a rule "no content generated by programs"(not the best way to say it, as that would deny autocomplete as well ).
;tl;dr There are lots of crappy MCreator mods
My Proposal: People can report program-generated content they think is crappy, and a moderator then decides if the content is of enough quality to be on MCF(and also look if the content is program-generated(visible by looking at the package names))
* Using mod loaders' SDKs and coding a mod with Java and OpenGL may be hard for many people. MCreator eases that by providing GUI tools, which is good.
* MCreator is good for new modders: I learned all basic stuff of modding with MrCrayfish's tutorials + MCreator, then I started to use things like MCP and Forge SRC.
* Thinking that something is crappy is completely subjective. Somebody may find something excellent what you find crappy.
* Everyone starts with no knowledge about something, then they learn. You are not an exception.
* MCreator does not use deprecated methods: If they were deprecated, authors of Forge/Fabric etc. would annotate them as @Deprecated
* Anyone can make a crappy mod, by using MCreator or coding it.
* "Enough" quality for who? I think the mods in this forum is good.
* Why are you comparing Minecraft Forum with Planet Minecraft? Planet Minecraft is for uploading and releasing Minecraft mods, Minecraft Forum is for discussing about Minecraft. They are completely different, unrelated platforms which should not be compared with each other.
* Re-coloring blocks and items does not make a mod "crappy". Even The Aether mod does it, is it a "crappy" mod? Definitely no. Another example: You colored other blocks and items, did it make your mod "crappy"? Definitely no. It is a very good mod, instead. I put your mod to my personal modpack, because it adds some useful stuff.

stevenrs11, please do not remove the info about the old Dimensional Doors mod in the OP,
because it may still be useful if anyone would like to play older MC versions

Very nice pages!
You could add a title of Blog-MCPlants.html web page, as it currently is: "Untitled Document".

Mehrcraft, same as me:
the old launcher (or alternatives) + game versions older than 1.18 + good mods = happy player

It is currently possible to play as a Bedrock client on a Java server
by using the server plugin: GeyserMC https://geysermc.org/
From my experience it works quite good, even regarding the obvious fact that some Java- or Bedrock -specific functions are not supported.

I'm using Firefox, latest version 85, on Windows 10.
I tried also Microsoft Edge, but there is same: the Timezone still returns to "Central Time (US&Canada)".
(on Edge it's even worse - any date in tooltip shows: "Invalid Date NaN:NaN PM")
Then, I also checked on the latest Chrome (version 88): the same problem as I originally reported.

Some old posts from this forum's early days sound quite interesting
(and maybe even nostalgic... )
Look, what citricsquid has written about the perspectives if this forum could become an "official" one...

Thank you very much for the converter!
I used it for some /setblock commands.
Works nice for me

SkyehRemastered, after a short break, you can try to get inspired by simply reading the Minecraft forum
There are so many threads, maybe even older ones, in which players discussed different things about the game, suggested seeds, mods, projects, quests and other activities to be done in the game.
Much of inspiring things can be found in the "Show Your Creation" section of this forum.
I personally like watching screenshots or videos to see what others discovered or invented (ex. redstone constructions).
I sometimes like reading a random article on Gamepedia/Minecraft portal, where I can discover some less known but interesting properties of blocks or tools, then test it in practice.
Also there is "Tutorials" section containing valuable hints about how to survive, how to use items, as well as suggested quests or challenges.
Interesting quests/challenges can also be found in some mod packs, I think it is worth searching for them a bit.
Of course, there are also other forums and community portals, ex. Planet Minecraft,
where we can find so many resources, opinions and motivations
