He used the "secret" way to get a mob skull to look like a player. (Herobrine is probably an easter egg.) He then put the skull on like a helmet.
But come to think of it, the wiki says there's an actual user called "Herobrine," but nobody knows who owns the account. His skin is probably the obvious, hence the skull working. Maybe...
Yes, there is a property in head items called 'SkullOwner', which changes the skin of the head to match the head of the 'owner'. The exact name he used was not 'Herobrine', but I do not want to reveal the true owner out of respect to Hypixel (Hint, starts with the letter J). Who ever owns this account could troll this adventure map to an epic fail if they changed their skin to something else.
Although there is an account under the name of Herobrine, that skin used does not have a beard, a feature apperent of the cannonical Herobrine, as it was based off the classic 'steve' skin. This lack of authenticity may have been the reason to use a different account for the 'SkullOwner' property. It is a rather ingenious method of adding custom content without using mods.
Using the 'SkullOwner' property has allowed me to do similar things in my adventure map, Order of the Stone. It must also be noted that if you play an adventure map using this feature, without an internet connection, all player skulls will use the default steve skin, regardless of the owner, as the game cannot connect to the minecraft.net database where skins are located.
If given permission, I will reveal the identity of the Herobrine head users account. IDK if anyone other than me and Hypixel knows who it is, and I am not saying I am the only one. But if nobody else but us 2 knows, then I should keep this a secret unless told otherwise.

There is no storage mechanism if you die for a reason. Your best bet is to enchant your tools before you die... then die. Getting all that XP isn't supposed to be super easy. Use it while you got it, don't be so greedy.

Everyone's a critic, eh?

One such pattern you could use is this...
Trust me, this is much more creepy than it sounds. Just make sure to keep lighting to an absolute minimum.
Basically, this makes it look like an ancient abandoned crypt.

1. coordinates, nuff said.
2. The minecraft world, although extremely massive in scale, is not infinite.
3. Dispite the massive scale, there are only 3 strongholds per world.
4. Plenty of people would have noticed similarities by now.
5. You're an idiot.
6. seeds are used for the world generation algorithm.
7. It is common to find chunks of previous world seeds not get deleted and end up in new worlds.
8. The nether would crash the game.

You can actually do this with an NBT editing program. As for servers giving out free books, they should deal with that themselves.

I use a circuit breaker for my main base, which opens the door when some derp closes it (using methods irrelevant to this post). It prevents me from being trapped inside.

Yes, yes it is pathetically easy to get. Sure, you may not come back with loads of iron ore if you are just haulin' ass through the caves, but a good strip mining usually provides at least a few stacks of the stuff.

Time to bust out the science...
First of all, it is true that steel is mostly iron, so I will not argue with that. However, although coal is made up of a decent amount of carbon, a much more pure carbon content can be found in diamonds. Likewise, in real life, it is far more efficient to collect carbon from limestone. In fact, coal would serve a better usage as the fuel when smelting steel, not as an ingredient.
You can get chain armor from villagers anyway, so I do not support this.
