In fact, considering that Mojang has their office in Sweden and that it is the middle of the day here right now I find it hard to believe that they are sleeping.... XD

In my opinion Minecraft really doesn't need that much more blocks and content, what it really needs is ambience and atmosphere improvements, maybe some Mechanic-tinkering as well. This along with an expansion of the soundtrack and the conversion to Cubic Chunks would give this game more than tenths of updates ever could.
EDIT: Did I really just get the honor of posting the 3000th post on this thread? That is kind of neat!

To me this is one of those few really amazing ideas on the forums. The potential is far greater than the additions alone. Minecraft doesn't really need that many more blocks, what it needs is more solid and advanced concepts and mechanics, and this idea certainly fits that description.

I must say that after re-reading through all of it I must admit this looks like a really solid idea, and most definitely suited for vanilla. I had a similar idea at one point that leaves should have similar properties as the ones you described, but with a somewhat slowing effect, not nearly as slow as that of cobwebs, but enough to make up for the increased forest-moblity. Maybe if you held down crouch while inside leaves you would not descend, just like with vines?
This suggestion would make for some really interesting forest-traversing, as you could climb your way right through it, and not just jumping from tree to tree but from actual branch to branch.
I am all in favor of this idea. It would give much more depth to the aspect of trees in Minecraft, something that I did not think was necessary up until I read this thread. If you would add me to the supporter-list I would be honored.
Looking forward to hearing Jeb's or Dinnerbone's opinions on this one!

I really want this idea implemented as soon as possible and the fact that they made the original format the way they have seems fairly lazy of them. The fact that the skin-servers keep crashing periodically is yet another sign of this since-long-forgotten aspect known as skins and customization. By now I deem it possible that skins and player-customization is their by far least expanded areas. A complete overhaul seems only fitting after all this time.

Looking at the Mesa-biome type you realize just how special it is. It has the by far most complex biome-generator in the game, and it shows that Mojang are slowly learning to play with the color-aspects that their game has to offer. One can only begin to imagine what could happen should they finally implement colored light.

My take on the whole timeline issue is that Minecraft is a sandbox-game set on a subtle medieval approach. What this comes down to is that some objects are made so generic and subtle in texture that they can be manipulated to appear modern, to help builders, but in the end everything from infrastructure to offensive capabilites points towards a timeline in a somewhat steampunk post-apocalytic/fantasy medieval era.

It's you guys here at colored glass-and-light, and The guys working over at the Cubic chunks thread that makes me think Minecraft is on its way to become better than ever.
If only Mojang could hurry up and realize this as well.
