Hi was just an example. I'm on a singleplayer world and am trying to gather any string to then put on an LCD, as long as it is equal to or less than 16 characters.
I could use that idea though. It'd need a function for each letter - each one individually clickable - and then an enter, backspace and cancel button.
The thing I'm trying to do with this is run a python command to then change text on an electronic component called an "LCD". It basically shows letters and numbers 16 characters per line and 2 lines. Don't let this make you shy away though, I've already got that part figured out. All I need to to is gather text, which eglaios's idea should work well.
Then there's another thing. Turning that text into a command. Is there a way to create custom commands with datapacks? Because that could be easier than a keyboard and then having to turn that into a command. I'm thinking /lcd "Your text here".
The result I am trying to create is a sort of say command for an LCD in real life. I have all the wiring and stuff, but I just need help with the input in minecraft.
I just need to put a string into a command block, that's it.

eglaios, all I need is the full string. How could I make a command block gather NBT data from a book in the player's inventory?
Your method could also work, robotnrp, and i might combine both of yours.
Here's how it would work:
1. Gather NBT from a certain book in the player's inventory USING /data get
2. Write the data to a command block in front of a certain character ( That's probably the hardest part )
3. Send the command from the command block and into my raspberry pi via the network.
I know how to send the command, just placing the NBT, and only a certain part of the NBT, is what I need help with now.

Just without having to look into the block.

I am in 1.15.2 and I am trying to find a way to use a command block to gather user input.
The point of this:
Gathering user input ex. "Hi"
Using that input in an automated command. Kind of like variables in code.
EDIT: Make it more attractive
