Can someone tell me what lines in which file to edit to make my ice not look like this?

I would be totally fine with just completely removing the reflection, and having the default ice texture... but this looks awful and none of the in-game settings will change it.

I have tried different texture packs, and this is with default textures, OptiFine, SEUS, no other mods.

Hey dude, I totally love this pack, but *personally* I think the obsidian has a little too much highlighting and is a little too bright - it looks to me like a bunch of little round shiny bits, and not a *block* of obsidian.

And the snow texture seems really like that hard, crunchy snow and not a nice smooth layer of snow.

That's just my opinion! Thanks for excellent work on an awesome pack. It's beautiful!

Anybody know how to adjust SEUS so that the End is playable? I have a bright blue sky and the land is very dark/shadowy.

Also, glowstone & lava are super bright... first time using SEUS and I don't know anything about it.

For defending a village, your strategy may not be possible under these circumstances:
    1. You're poorly equipped. You wouldn't have enough blocks and torches to build a whole wall and light the inside up.
    2. There's a defense breach. Such as creepers blowing up, endermen moving blocks, unlit caves below leading to the surface or just a spot in your wall which you overlooked that lets them in.
    3. You arrive with limited time. You're not always going to find a village at dawn when you have the most time available. And even if you do, you still might not have enough time to wall and illuminate the village before nightfall.
    4. A Zombie Siege occurs. I quote from the top of the Wiki page: "Zombie Sieges are in-game events that occur when many zombies spawn in a village. They occur regardless of how well lit or walled off a village is."

So unless you're prepared with all the block and torches you need, check for breaches, have enough time to do everything and don't have a zombie siege occur EVER, you will inevitably be defending a village with swords. (Or sealing them in their homes with dirt, but that's heartless (And even if you seal them in with dirt, zombie sieges can still spawn zombies in their houses sometimes))

I probably didn't state this clearly, but if your friend just goes within 1 block of the mob and within 3 blocks of you, you will hit them anyway with the sword sweep. They don't have to even run in front of you for them to get hit by it.
And even if this is an unlikely scenario, want to know the chance of it happening without the sword sweep? Less then 1%. (This is taking into account that you might have a random muscle spasm when hitting the mob which causes you to somehow aim at the right spot and click at the same time to make you accidentally hit your friend as well.)

Okay I was just reading up on it, I didn't realize until just now that apparently it *always* does the sweep if you're standing still or moving very slow. Yeah I totally get that.

Which includes any allies that you have in front of you.
Imagine defending a village and a villager walks in front of you. You basically handed the zombies a free meal.

Or if you want to shove a mob off a cliff/into lava, and then your friend goes in front of you to attack the mob.

If you're trying to defend a village, it should be surrounded with walls and properly illuminated on the inside, not defended with swords at night.

If your friend walks in front of someone who is swinging a sword, they deserve to get hit.

    Yuuup.
You'll spend most of your time planning strategies, running away from groups and hiding behind a shield then actually fighting.

It's almost like you might actually struggle to survive in... Survival. Wow.

Personally I found Survival combat so easy that the game wasn't challenging at all, there wasn't any strategy to combat besides 'chant up an excellent sword and spam until everything is dead. Not really that fun, IMO.

posted a message on Staves - The solution to Dinnerbone's craving for weapons!
I think a better solution would simply be a staff that fires an arrow-like projectile (but with a more 'magical' particle effect) that travels in a straight line rather than an arrow's arc. The weapon's durability could be the 'ammo'. Damage could be equal to an arrow, and staves could be enchanted with bow enchants (maybe some custom staff enchants, whatever).

The firing rate could be limited exactly like a bow - hold the button to charge the staff, then release to fire. The longer you hold the button, the farther the projectile fires, out to some arbitrary maximum distance.

Maybe we could even make a type of ammo... diamond dust, perhaps?

Glowstone Dust + Gunpowder + Diamond = 8x Diamond Dust

Perhaps this would balance out the whole deal. Maybe instead of having the Infinity enchant for staves, they could instead get a 'splash' damage enchant. Nothing OP, maybe just normal damage on a direct hit and 1/2 heart in a 2-block radius or something.

This is just off the top of my head. I tried to keep it simple (we don't really need a completely new 'system' added to the game for this) and balanced.

Host your own server for friends & family or rent one via Minecraft Realms. It's the only way to play that's worth it, in my opinion. I went on quite a few 'big' servers, and none of them were fun at all. I've been running a private server for real-life friends and family for about a year or so. It's great!

posted a message on What do you think about fortune enchantment?
    TL;DR - Yeah, I also think it's overpowered, but I think it's OK.

It's definitely overpowered, but I don't mind. Alchemy and enchanting in general are OP - with a Smite 3 sword and strength and regeneration potions, you can basically 3 or 4 shot a Wither. I personally think that it's fine to have access to that kind of power for characters - you can still lose everything you're carrying if you die too far from home, or in lava, or the End. Redstone contraptions are effectively OP in regards to their ability to streamline necessary processes. Minecraft has always been what you make it, and for that reason, I personally just don't build mob grinders - feels like cheating. I do, however, build automatic farming systems for food - self-harvesting wheat farms, piston-powered auto-melon farms, auto chicken farms, etc. I don't build them every time I play, but I don't have a problem with them. If you think Fortune totally breaks the game, then just try to avoid using it - you could even go so far as to just enchant books so you don't waste 30 levels on a pick, end up with Fortune 3, and feel like it's wasted.

Minecraft has always been, in my opinion, about surviving and building - typically at the expense of game balance. I think it's because Minecraft has such a large audience of young players. Say, for example, the game launched and was Hardcore-only. I know my kids would get burned out VERY quick if they lost all their progress whenever they died on a new map, and probably wouldn't play the game at all... but there are plenty of people that would LOVE if Minecraft was Hardcore-only because it adds weight to every decision and the gameplay is *always* dangerous.

I really don't mean to sound like I'm ranting at you - I'm totally not. I've just been playing since Alpha and for me personally, every time patch notes come out, I am consistently impressed by every new iteration of the game. It is the creative flexibility that I love about MC, and the lack of tight balance in the gameplay doesn't bother me in the least.

I do wish, however, that, given the high level of power currently available to players, they would add another new boss mob that was ALLLLLLLLLLMOST impossible to defeat with only one player - only with the absolute best gear AND building preparation could a single player even have a hope of taking it down.

posted a message on I take pictures of snails. I was thinking of entering one in a contest, which one is best?
I really like the second one best because the colors are fantastic, but the 3rd one is probably a little artsy-er. The colors, man (or woman), the colors! The one in the front has his antennae?/feelers? on full display, and the 2nd little guy in the background is great. Sorry, I'm not really up on my snail anatomy.

Furthermore I think the background content in the 3rd photo is the most visually interesting - there are a variety of shapes and textures, much more so than in the first photo. The second photo is very natural looking, but I'd definitely say #3 if you can only enter one into the contest.

Oh, and in the first photo, I think the fact that the snail's antenna?/feeler? thing on his right is coming toward the camera at an odd angle that sort of hides it from view kind of detracts a bit from the overall completeness or feeling of the image.

    Good luck!

posted a message on [Software] SimpleServer Wrapper 8.4.7 [1.4.6]
No offense intended to Sadimusi or anyone, but I totally loved SimpleServer when I started running a small, 4-6 person server for myself and a few friends. I'll be migrating to Bukkit now that SS doesn't seem to be actively updated, and personally I might suggest that other prospective SimpleServer users simply switch to Bukkit, as well. Thanks to everyone who made SimpleServer great! Your work was appreciated. :)

Looks like its days may be at an end.
