I normally do little posting and just lurking but I felt the need to compliment you on this pack, it creates an atmosphere that I've only felt with doku's rpg texture pack, this takes the proverbial gold and diamond sandwich
Personally since I believe that hell will probably involve a lot of fire, lava, and general heat, I think it would be logical to be ash, although I cant really think of anything that ash might be used to make, it could just be the hell alternative to dirt as other people have stated in this thread.
Also someone on the comments section of notch's blog suggested that it was crude oil, perhaps involved in the creation of lanterns, but I find this unlikely as in notch's blog post he specifically said that he was working on the new dimension, and I doubt that if it were involved in making lanterns lanterns it would be exclusive to that dimension, as he implied this block to be.
I think you should look into the runecraft mod on this forum, I too had a similar problem, wanting to expand and explore new lands, but the distance was quite a deterrent, the runecraft mod has a lovely teleporter and waypoint rune that you can establish anywhere and teleport long distances with relative stability
Alright so I looked around this thread and I can see only one person who had a similar problem.
I built a waypoint and teleporter system relatively far apart, well past the max view distance, upon using them it teleports me to under the map and i fall to my death, only one person on my server has successfully teleported once using the teleporter.
Is it possible to disable the !give commands? Now that notch has updated the client with working chests and serverside inventory ive decided that my server doesn't need the !give command, but I would still like to run the server through the admin software
"First of all, if you’re playing the downloaded game, you will have to download a new version of the launcher from here: http://www.minecraft.net/download.jsp
The reason for this is that I had to add some authentication bits to the launcher instead of to the game (which is downloaded after authentication), and the launcher can’t update itself yet.
Client changelog:
* Added support for more records
* Added online authentication for online servers
Server changelog:
* The server can now be started in either online/secure mode or offline/insecure mode. A secure server requires all connecting players to first authenticate on www.minecraft.net, then checks that the authentication matches, before letting the player in. A server running in offline mode won’t do any such checks, nor will it ask the client to authenticate, but you can’t be sure that people who connect really are who they claim they are. Offline mode is meant for LAN plan where you know the people connecting to the server.
* Added ban/pardon commands to ban and unban a player from the game
* Added ban-ip/pardon-ip commands to ban and unban a specific ip (you have to kick the player manually)
* Added op/deop commands to add/remove a player from the op list
* Added player ops. They can send server commands by typing a slash followed by a server command. Server ops can also build/destroy blocks near the spawn area.
* Made the server save terrain more frequently
Ah well if its in the works then i'm satisfied, im confident in both notch's ability and commitment to his customers, mods can lock or delete this thread if they please
So the boat update happened, and after I finished being totally giddy I decided to try it out, initially I was very impressed, upon sailing out to sea I discovered that the chucks of land that were being loaded on the edge of my viewing radius caused my game to have some serious lag during the loading time, this repeats about every second or so if I continue to move forward into unknown territory.
During my adventures in pre-explored land my framerate is stable as one would assume, could anyone suggest how I might get around this predicament?
I think we are all forgetting the simple power of the administration of the server, in the current multiplayer game mode the admins are allowed a wide array of tools to combat grieving such as indestructible blocks and the power to kick individual players, both of these things have been mentioned on this board. While the admin powers that we currently have would not necessarily fit the survival mode "vulnerability" aspect, I believe that notch would not be so quick as to eliminate all admin powers from the servers for survival mode.
The common anti grieving measure that I myself and others resort to is the "admin box" that is placed around the spawn point in public classic servers, this is effective at eliminating grievers, and I also find it close to impossible to believe that notch will not implement some sort of vote-to-kick feature that I feel would be successful in combating grievers.
Combating grievers literally would eliminate the purpose of removing them because they would have fulfilled their purpose, to cause YOU grief, these intricate and elaborate setups mentioned in this thread designed to combat grievers will cause more grief on your end than theirs, and at the end of the day they can simply move on to one of the hundreds of other servers, which I suppose is what we want them to do, but they would leave with their heads held high, knowing they succeeded in pissing you off

Just making sure people are aware of this glitch
