He did a vote on it and most of the people voted for square. Sadly, he was a **** about it and he's still changing it.

I don't understand why he made a vote if he wanted to make it round.

    QFE

But seriously, it's a complete shame. It is impossible to have a square ball, for things like slimeballs and enderpearls, but the square moon was iconic to Minecraft. It symbolizes the complete and utter shift of the game (at the last minute of development too).

    posted a message on A 4th pre-release?
Since the "pre-release" thing will go all the way to Minecraft v1.0 (the full version), I think it's a bit o a misnomer. 1.9 Pre-release suggests that 1.9 official will come out at some point or another. And this close to the deadline means that 1.9 official should come out. But Notch said that they will keep up with the pre-releases... contradictory in nature.

On a side note, every pre-release is wrecking servers abilities to cope with the new update. Sure, there is a stable 1.8 to play, but then you're missing out on what a huge part of the community is enjoying. Servers, especially the well built ones, are becoming less stable than ever. Heck, when 1.8 pre-release 1 came out, it killed off the entire server, and the admin had a great setup going on! Now with 1.9 pre-release, going all the way up to 4 so far, it is just killing admins to keep up with it.

Then there are the map makers, who are also stressed out about all the pre-releases. I know I am! We can't exactly do anything to our maps, since the entire gameplay will possibly change drastically fairly quickly. Enchantments and potions are both completely new, and they change gameplay completely. Then there were many other 'intensive' features, from breeding to hunger, from bow charge to strongholds, and of course all the new mobs. This makes it super hard on map makers, because something they work on could potentially need reworked completely when a new feature yet again changes gameplay.

Fianlly there are the modders, who are given absolutely no slack. The constant stream of updates, and the fact that there are both unofficial and official updates, causes the mods to become bugged out, and by the time they can update it to the new one, another one is right around the corner.

too long? Well to sum up, the pre-releases are causing stress in multiple levels: to server admins, to map makers, and to modders.

The best scenario/option now would seem to be: when the code freeze hits, release 1.9 official, with all the new features. The "pre-releases" following the code freeze are mainly bug fixes, which ties in perfectly with 1.9.1, 1.9.2, where extensions of official releases are generally bug fixes to begin with! I can't make everyone see this, but it's a crystal clear option in my eyes.

I use iShowU, which is a bit cheaper than screenflow. The downside is that if you want to edit it, you need to use iMovie or something else to do so, or else it's raw video from start to finish.

Well, that's just one thing I'm putting back into my custom texture pack. I'll have to do some tweaking to get the phases right though, but a square moon with phases might look a little weird when it's a crescent moon line.

    Quote from Annihilator820

I think my opinion's correct, but it's just my opinion. I could be right, or I could be wrong. Depends on who you ask. Same goes for everyone else.

As for what constitutes whining, I also said that complaining over features that can be ignored or disabled is whining, as well as over unfinished features or what Notch does/doesn't do.

When it comes to "downgrade, turn it off, go to peaceful/creative, etc.", that is a tough issue. However, most subjects of complaint can be either ignored in this manner, simply dealt with, or removed/modified if one is willing to utilize the various mods available to them. For example, Endermen. Like you said, Enderman cannot be turned off or ignored in a vanilla SSP game. But they can be nerfed or removed through mods. Granted, some may not want to mod their game, but installing mods into the game isn't exactly difficult, and if they don't want to, they have to learn to accept the Endermen. This pretty much goes for servers too. Don't like Endermen? Find a server that turns them off, or deal. I suppose for this problem, it's either deal with it, or play outside the normal rules.

As for the SMP potion example, I'm certain that there would be PvP options on any decent server to separate potion-using and potion-less combatants in official duels. As for wilderness dwellers, that's the law of the wild. Anything goes. Heck, there may even be servers which disable potions that these potion-haters could find. In general though, I suppose that, being the minority, they'd simply have to deal with things like this.

Like I said above, this is just my opinion. I might be wrong, or I may be right. It all depends.

Ah yeah, I forgot about mods. It is another common 'solution' I found. The main problem with mods is this: if only 10% of the community dislikes something, or requests something, modders typically overlook it. Enderman griefing was a poor example in this regard, because more than average didn't like that they can grief anything they want to. But the hypothetical question that convinced me it wasn't any good is this: If you could mod, would you do something everyone would like, or something hardly anyone would like? It's noble, but unintelligent to do the latter really. Modders don't want to take stuff out of the game. The Aether, Millionaire, Moon and Mars, Mo Creatures/Creeps.. they all add more to the game, which were all the requests the 90% who do like the direction requested. Note that this doesn't include the people who prefer pure vanilla either (not me though, but I prefer the mods that don't change the game as a whole).

To sum it up: Modders prefer to make mods that will be used by a large part of the community (90% who approve) vs. a small part of it (10% who dislike a feature).

As for the SMP topic, it was more of a "you can't avoid it even if you wanted to" point rather than a "what should potion-haters do" type deal. Official duels, to them, aren't the pinnacle anymore, since if 90% of the community like potions, then 90% of the battles will most likely include it (makes sense to me, but I am not much of a PvP player). So they luck out basically. It's impossible to avoid on SMP, unless you find the impossible to find server who does take it out. (and even then, how will it be taken out, if plugin writers don't want to write a potion removing plugin either? Resort to a previous update that doesn't have it? See previously about downgrading.)

For reference, my stand is I don't like some of the updates, particularly that of hunger, potions, and dragons. But I learned that complaining about it, even logically and intelligently, will just be shot down by 5 pages of people -> a real blow to the head. Not one of those who did like the feature respected that I disliked it, only those who agreed with me (the roughly 10% crowd). What makes me upset now is moreso towards the people who have these unthought out comments and can't respect the OP's opinion, even if it is written in Noobspeak. (I do respect yours, honest :))

One thing I notice is that you seem to believe that you have the sole correct opinion... then later down you say that one should realize no one has the sole correct reason. Contradictory much?

On another note, you need a new section: How to deal with "whiners" (as you put it, but they make perfectly legitimate claims too! Your problem seems to lie with their grammar and attitude, and not what they actually have to say.)

Basically, the idea is that some of the comebacks people have made are anything but logical. When someone claims they don't like a feature, the immediate comeback of a HUGE portion of the community is "Play on Peaceful." or "Play on Creative." or "Downgrade back to 1.7.3, or stay with the current version." Do you/anyone realize how WEAK that solution is? It doesn't solve a thing at all! Let's take an example: Someone hates enderman because they grief. They suggest they are removed/nerfed from the game. Others come along and say: Play on peaceful/creative/downgraded version to avoid the problem. NOTE: The original posted was posting about ENDERMAN, not every single mob! They most likely don't have a problem at all with the old mobs! Why in the world is sacrificing every single hostile mob a "solution" for the endermans ability to grief? Completely thoughtless solution. Final note: this example can easily be transferred to nearly every feature in the game that people have complained about.

The "solution" of: "Avoid the feature" is also a very WEAK solution as well. Here, the example could be about potions ("avoid using potions if you don't like them!" They say.) Well, the mere fact that potions are in the game is what gives them the right to complain about it. What if they play multiplayer? Then this solution to "avoid" it would be completely illogical, because for fairness to happen, the complainer would either have to use potions to get on the same level as the entire server (which counters the proposed solution), OR the entire server would be forced not to use potions to be on the same level as the complainer (which makes 90% of people unhappy). The fact that roughly 90% of players like potions, and the other features, thus making the former be the more logical case (force people who don't like potions to use it), makes the "avoid it" comeback inappropriate.

On a side note, to whoever said, "I judge first by the name of the user who posted." ... Geez, look up the quote/cliche: 'Don't judge a book by its cover.' I mean, seriously?

Wouldn't the detector rail pop off when the piston pushes it up? Therefore it's a one time use? But in the video, they clearly both completed the jump.

posted a message on Against Hunger
I feel like this is the story of my life. Me and my opinions always sits in the minority, where 5% or less would actually ever agree with me in part. I don't know exactly what to say, since whatever I do say will not be accepted. But I still hold firm to what I said above. It's just, when people say they have fun with the current system, how can I counter that exactly, regardless of the fact that I find it very, very annoying?

Creative mode is a sorry excuse of the term. With just awful flying capabilities, it doesn't work out at all. Typically I used Zombe's fly and toomanyitems on creative servers (the Creative mod inventory system is just awfully done as well, and instant break is something i largely dislike), and I always found that very fun, but eventually it gets boring and I want mob interactions. But at that cost I have to deal with hunger, and I dislike carrying stuff I don't need, and dislike the fact that most of you seem to be in favor of being forced to farm for your food.

I did notice that not a single post mentioned my possible solution, which I actually though combined the best of either side. A poster above pointed out that sprinting will be hard to accomplish, but it could work out the same way as breathing underwater right? I mean, you can't sprint for minutes at a time irl, and the breath bar seems to be reasonably close to realistic.. why not make sprinting more realistic in that regards as well? Also, I primarily use sprinting for getting between far to reach places. Walking slowly great distances bugged me before, and Im glad I could sprint now, but it comes at a cost greater than the gain.

(P.s. when I say "heavy cost" or equivalent, I mean that it costs more than it gains. You wouldn't pay $5 for a bundle of grapes, but $5 is not that much of a "heavy cost" when you take the larger picture.)

On the mods: that is why I made the thread, because the modders that I've seen feel that it is just as unnecessary as every poster here. Would you make a mod like this if you knew how? I doubt it, because it doesn't interest you.

Thanks for your inputs though. It reminds me how fragile games can be, and while I will probably play minecraft for years, and possibly laugh at myself when I reread these years later, it does annoy me for now. Thanks for telling me that my formatting was awesome (except, please tell me where the "GREAT WALL OF CAPS" was previous poster, because there is none from what I see). I try to format it the best I can, and I spent quite a while getting it right. Having my thoughts down completely helps me out a lot. I guess I just have to remember that you all (almost literally, about 90% it seems) do have fun playing MC with the hunger system, and as MC is a game, having fun is the point.

Does it count as admitting defeat if you still hold the same opinion as before?

Oh cool, a get to know you thing! My turn!

My name is Thungon, 19, lives in Vegas. My ign is different than my forum name, and I hope to change that whenever they actually add a useful feature to minecraft. I am one of the two servers "gypsies," where we just build and create our own buildings without making them fully fledged towns. I am addicted to redstone, and love playing around with it, though I typically keep to stuff I already know how to build for survival worlds/servers. My current project is a ravine turned into a full complex of useful things.

When it comes to minecraft servers, I been on three since I bought it in the late stages of 1.4 update (right before 1.5). The first was fun, and we participated in some cool freebuilds, but I fell out of it when they made younger, newer kids moderators who just took over the server. I then went on another free build server and focused on mega builds with the other server gypsy. However we have yet to complete them as when 1.8 came out, the server stayed in 1.7.3. So we moved again and found this one, which is by far my favorite of them all. I hope to see you all on it!

In real life, I attend UNLV and study architecture. I'm currently taking my first arch class, even though it's my second year attending it. I tend to find myself on neutral grounds in nearly all aspects (philosophical, political, etc.), but they also tend to be rather controversial/unique in their own regards.

    Cya!
