Had the same deal as Nozzy, yet I always think of a biosphere (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/biosphere) when I hear the word "Biome" (which is not in my auto-correct dictionary, funnily).
Hah! I love living in the deep south; not a single decent service provider (best down here is ~1.5 Mbps) can reach ya, and let me tell you what I think of TPS reports Fiber Optics...
Not that I have any intent to create skins, but I have been begging to ask (or find) this question: How does one make the accessories (hats, glasses, etc.) on custom skins that seem to be unattached to the main boxy minecraftian? Always wondered whether this was sculpted using something other than paint, or simply just a method that I clearly do not know..
Edit: Must be going blind, I forgot that this forum has the section dedicated to custom skin topics. I guess this needs to be moved, then.
Edit II: ...and I find that related post just as I search the different threads, another reason why I need to remember my way around forums. Close this, please. Also need to bookmark more, easily remember that post before...but I lost interest way then.
I think that a good way to solve many problems with griefers is to add an option for admin and ops that allows all or certain users from building on the map. That way, by default, new users could not build but could still explore and view the creations without being trapped in a prison. Then the decision of whether the user can build or not relies on the admin or op. If this idea was already posted, then I apologize for cluttering the forums with an extra topic.
Another method is placing sand blocks on top of lava or water, which will raise a lava or water block to the same place as where you placed the sand block. Be careful when raising lava, I once made a lava tower and some lava spilled out causing the lava blocks to spread rapidly in the air and create huge lag. Fortunately this was on a single-player map, and you should always ask the server admin if its okay to build with lava on his map.
New here, and found out about this particular game from Jayisgames.com. Minecraft is something I picked up and couldn't put down, mainly since it is about creating amazing buildings, environments, and structures out of a simple block-building sandbox game. I have played games such as myst, half-life, and the sims, and most of the creations I have made so far on a single-player map take many aspects from these titles. I look forward to the release of the finished minecraft game, and will eventually help donate to the creator when I get the chance. On another note, is there a possibility of sharing single-player maps? I really just dont like building on servers just to return to a ruined structure.

I know this is not a creation on a server, but I could not find a place to post single-player map creations.
