It depends on if you prefer to play creative or survival modes.
I usually stick to survival, so I go for mods that add what I feel are balanced gameplay mechanics. That and stuff which only enhances aesthetics or performance.

Nov 8, 2011Aw man, not this again. There are similar topics still on the first page of this board.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
Really, if you can't be bothered to learn how to replace one file then you've got no right to complain. Well, everyone has a right to complain, but you've got no right to being taken seriously.

I do not see him making dlc anything game changing, just the minor things like custom capes, maybe custom armors ect (things that will transfer from server to server).
Nope. Uh-uh. No way. Never going to happen. Didn't you read Notch's screed against micro-transactions? He absolutely hates them.
Nov 8, 2011Meh - I'm still not convinced that there ever will be any paid-for DLC. Notch has certainly never mentioned anything specific. And remember, Notch hates micro-transactions, Mojang is definitely not hurting for cash (And won't be any time soon), and it was Mojang's lawyers who forced Notch to change the policy. Lawyers have a tendency for being overly-cautious while covering all conceivable contingencies.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
But we'll see. I'll still definitely pay for it if DLC happens, but I'm leaning more toward there being free content patches in the future.
Nov 8, 2011Yeesh, if you want 1.9 so bad just play the fricken' pre-releases! The ONLY reason I can see for people demanding an official 1.9 is so they can have their precious mods / bukkit updated.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
Remember, it's the mod-maker's discretion as to whether they support the pre-releases or not. It's not Mojang's problem!
Just wait till Minecon. Or if it's such a huge issue, harass your local mod-maker. That'll earn you some friends </sarcasm>
Nov 5, 2011Can you folks really not play Minecraft without mods? That's the only reason I can see that you'd demand 1.9 before it's time. Yeesh, let the modders have their well-deserved break. 1.0 will be released in just two more weeks.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
Nov 3, 2011The enchanting system definitely leads itself to WoW-style grinding as it stands. I'm sure Notch is aware of this, and I've read articles he's written where he talks about how much he dislikes pointless grinding. So it may change.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
Actually, I think the randomness was kind of his way of discouraging such grinding. I mean, if you grind forever but aren't actually guaranteed anything, is it worth grinding?
His idea was probably that you're just expected to play the game as normal and if you just HAPPEN to survive long enough to gain a good level, well there's something you can do with it.
But it doesn't really work that way. There'll always be people who feel like they HAVE to grind and will throw absolute fits about HAVING to do it.
Nov 3, 2011Someday I swear I'm going to create a fully-immersive virtual reality game where you can do almost anything and be almost anyone, and it'll be like you're actually theeeere, man. But I'll get bored with coding it eventually and decide to throw in a clown that appears "randomly" every thirty minutes and farts on your head.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
*shrug* It's my game.
Nov 2, 2011I'm pretty sure I've seen places where Notch has gone on long tirades about his dislike for micro-transactions. And he's stated before that the Alpha / Beta free update thing was the decision of his lawyers, and that personally he'd prefer updates remain free.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
I guarantee not much will change after Nov 18th. The Mojang crew will just take another long vacation and return right back to further fleshing out the game with regular free updates.
I only see non-free DLC coming along if it adds major elements, like a new mode. But finished NPCs, villages, the quest system? Nah, that'll be free updates.

Hasn't it always been a fantasy game? With zombies and skeletons and hell and creepers...not sure if the last one counts but whatever point is it's always been a fantasy. In fact, aren't all games fantasy? Where what you're doing isn't real but a thought or dream kind of? Damn, every game is a fantasy rpg...
You're right, sorry. People are getting worked up about Minecraft becoming HIGH FANTASY. And you're right about Minecraft having high fantasy elements for a long time. Just lots of people liked to use modern texture packs, industrial mods, and build huge skyscraper-filled cities in an effort to make the game decidedly less high fantasy. Those are most likely the people most upset.

So I've been reading up on how to get enchantments and I understand that for the most part it is sorta random. I also see though that different items and different enchanting levels have different % chances of getting that sweet sweet silk touch.
So my question is... what are the best conditions yielding the highest possible chance of getting this enchantment? Should I use a gold pick? should I use a level 30 enchant? or a lvl 50? Do these things even latter? What level is silk touch? What is the base level I need to be to have a chance of getting it? How much does gold effect this? (I dont care if its gold... I just want it)
I know it could all be for not and I could be grinding out a few chances before I get it... I just like to go in with all the info I need to make the best conditions
Thanks! I'm level 27 right now and am getting nervous about when to start trying XD
It's a roll of the dice, really. But personally I'd try it just above lvl 30 to be safe. You're also more likely to get it on a gold or iron tool than a diamond. Well, I shouldn't say that since it's all russian roulette. You're more likely to get a higher lvl enchantment on a gold or iron tool. Personally, I don't even grind to 30. I usually hit it up at lvl 13-16, since that's about as high as I get by the time my previously enchanted tool dies. And people have gotten silk touch as low as lvl 5. It's technically possible, it's just something like 99.999999999% unlikely.
