Make sure you have ModLoader installed. What version of Minecraft are you on? Which version did you install? Are you sure that you took one of the zipped files from inside the zipped file that you downloaded? You didn't just install the zip that you downloaded, you unzipped it, correct?
I have modloader installed, im am on minecraft 1.45 and installed it on this version and im pretty sure i unzipped it. My problem is when i try install the f relaod and press f nothing happens and i am using optifine
